The 10th Rivers State House of Assembly held its sitting today which was presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo at the Hallowed Chambers, Admin Block, Government House, Port Harcourt.

Among the items on the day's agenda was the screening and confirmation of Commissioners designate which started with the reading of the letter of the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Amaopusenibo Sir Siminialayi Fubara, GSSRS, addressed to the Speaker before the nominees were screened.

Some of the Commissioner dedignates were asked to take a bow haven served as members of the State Assembly in the past and were found worthy in character and capacity.

The screening process was succeeded by a debate session on the outcome of the entire exercise which led to a unanimous resolution for the confirmation of the successful nominees which includes:

1. Hon. Israel Lebura Ngbuelu, Ph.D.

2. Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi, DSSRS.

3. Barr. Otamiri John Ngubo

4. Hon. Barr. Benibo Anabraba

In his remark, the Rt Hon Speaker raised a matter of state importance bothering on the security infractions in some Council Secretariats across the state, noting that from reports at his disposal, there were "pockets of violence within certain Local Governments in Rivers State"

Mr. Speaker stated that the Governor had shown exceptional restraints in the face of provocation which the Assembly aligns with, calling on the Inspector General of Police to carry out his constitutional duties by going after the criminals who have decided to burn down government infrastructures in the State.

He added that the State had sacrificed so much for peace and the government should not allow any person or group of persons to perpetrate these very unpatriotic acts without legitimate repercussions.

The plenary which was graced by former principal officers and members of the House was thereafter adjourned to Thursday, October 10, 2024.
