Only four people can resolve Rivers political crisis – APC’s Tonye Cole g

Former Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 election, Tonye Cole has weighed in on the ongoing political crisis in the state.


Cole said peace cannot return to the oil-rich state unless four prominent personalities in the state sit together to resolve the crisis.

He stated this on Tuesday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.


The statement comes amidst ongoing political crisis in Rivers State following the last Saturday’s local government election

According to him, President Bola Tinubu can superintend the meeting if he really wants peace in Rivers State.

He said: “I have already said some actors need to be on the table. There are four of them who must sit down at a table and decide that Rivers State is more important than personal interest and agenda. Till then we are not going to have peace.


“His Excellency ex-Governor Peter Odili, who is the father of this political dynamics, must sit at the table. His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi must sit at that table. Then Nyesom Wike, and Siminalayi Fubara must sit at that table.

“The President can superintend this if he really wants peace in Rivers State. And a decision must be made that this is how are going to be moving forward.

“Until that is done, as soon as Fubara’s time is about to end, you will see an all out war.”

Tonye Cole is right on this... Rivers state is going back to pre 2015 election... Wike is not for peace unless the Presidency call him to order.

The power tussle in that River State is just too much.

As a progressive mind, I don't support do or die affairs.

Wike should let peace reign and Fabura should get to work meaningfully with immediate alacrity.

Nigerian Politicians are selfish.
Why will a Governor serve 8 Years and still want to dictate or appoint people to serve under his successor?
I do not support God fatherism.

Wike did well on infrastructure in Rivers without hindrance and should let his successor govern the state in his own capacity so that when he fails, we all see his incompetence.

People supporting Wike would never allow someone dictate for them in their various affairs especially if they are the heads.

Ameachi allowed Wike rule when Wike proved stubborn.

Wike doesn't let things slide and is always very bitter, he is a man who puts personal ambition and interest above the State.

He lost governorship primaries then worked against his own party.
Peter Obi won Wikes LGA in the presidential election and Wike made sure to destroys ballot.

He is willing to go every length to destroy his party if things do not go his way..

As someone that have lived in Rivers State for long now, I use to like him when he was governor but his bitterness is making me think twice about his personality at the moment.

Fubara on the other hand should work even while fighting, you can put things in place going. Don't face fight and forget your duties because I am yet to see what he has done exceptionally so far. I might be wrong. But nothing visible.

If he is facing education or other sectors that aren't visible then let him employ Media to make it loud so people can see. Because at the end, your work will speak for you.

What’s there in resolving. With what we have witnessed there is nothing here to resolve.
In sane countries some people would be prosecuted for terrorism charges because they think the only way to get what they want is to harass, spill blood and make a state ungovernable just because the incumbent refused to be bullied by bowing down to their selfish wishes and accept them as a Godfather. But instead a President has allowed him to occupy his ministerial position and continue his excesses and have stopped so low to become one sided.

But is deluded into believing he is greater than the other three.

Wike will never agree to be in the same room with Rotimi, else someone will go with a black eye..this solution is impossible..how can the devil return to God for forgiveness or negotiation.Impossible

If Fubara obeys the Laws and Court Judgements, there won't even be political crisis in Rivers State. Let me give just two examples of how his lawlessness is the root cause of the crisis in Rivers State.

(1) The Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the Martin Amaewhule led 27 members House of Assembly, yet he continues to deal two people (Oko Jumbo and one other) as a house of Assembly. They were 3 of them before Edison Ehie resigned and became his Chief of Staff. He sends the State budgets to these two people to pass (even after the President directed him to present the budget to the proper assembly. He sends names of appointees to these two people for screening etc.

(2) When RISIEC announced the proposed date for LG elections, the APC went to the Federal High Court challenging the conduct of RISIEC in conducting LG elections. They complained of the duration of the notice given to political parties and other issues that they believed is not in accordance to the electoral act. The Court gave judgement stopping the election by directing INEC not to release the CTC of the voters register which is a key requirement, among other directives. Instead of Fubara to appeal against the Court Judgement since it wasn't to his liking, he went ahead to conduct an illegal purported election and now expects the other parties to swallow whatever he has done because he is a governor?

Unfortunately, Obidients and Atikulators are cheering him on while criticizing an innocent Wike whose political associates are vehemently resisting the acts of lawlessness and abuse of power by Fubara. All the criticism of Wike is because Wike supported Tinubu against their preferred candidates.

But right thinking Nigerians cannot be swayed by such infantile propaganda. Fubara should stop acting in a lawless manner and you will see peace in Rivers State.
