Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka says he prefers traditional Orisa worshipping to Christianity and Islam because it fascinated him more.

Soyinka said this in an interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo, where he further explained that the depth of faith in Islam and Christianity doesn’t match that of Orisa worshipping for him.

According to him, Orisa worshipping eschews violence and is more creative.

“I was fortunate to be born in two worlds – the Christian world and traditional Orisa worshippers.

“My grandfather, until he – poor man – also got converted, was an Orisa person and a chief, and his (grandfather’s) side (of Orisa) fascinated me a lot more.

“For me, it (Orisa worshipping) was more artistic, creative, and also more mysterious. I don’t find much of the mysterious in Christianity and even less in Islam. And that is for a simple reason that I didn’t grow up in a Muslim environment.

“Orisa is open, and very ecumenical and that is why these foreign religions were able to penetrate it and even distort the truth. Because of the generosity of this spirit (Orisa), it is not violent. It is one of those African religions which eschew violence.

“I don’t believe in the Islamic or Christian God and, for the adherents of these religions, if that makes me an atheist, so I say, I am an atheist.

“I insisted that all human beings have a certain spiritual core in their being. I believe myself to be a more spirit-sensitive person,” Wole Soyinka said.

Wole is right on this one, have you ever seen natives worshipping Amadioha, Kamanu or Ozuzu before. They really rend their hearts and enjoy the worship of their ancestors.

The only difference is that, while very few are sensitive, receptive and aware of that core, majority have been blindfolded and indoctrinated to ignore it!

If we dey worship sango or amadioha and we had to swear before taking public office, I doubt if anyone will steal public funds.... But now even if we bring it back, Nigerians will look for ways of bribing the chief priest(who is also another Nigerian of course)

Wole Soyinka is a free soul

It takes the depth of all stupidity and idiocy for a black African man to worship the same useless foreign gods that were used to enslave them.

It is 1000times better to worship your ancestors than worshiping the ancestors of others

Jesus, Jehovah and his useless book called Bible was all about the Jews, did they mention your tribe in the Bible? Did you hear any of your villlage name in the Bible ? Are you a descendant of Noah, Abraham and the other useless Bible characters?

Same goes for Islam, you will be bearing Abdullahi, Mohammed , Ibrahim and abandon your own cultural name. ? Are you an Arab?
Worst of all these Arabs hate you and yet you love them because your brain is dead.
You want to pray to your God, you have to learn Arabic to speak to your god?

Your ancestors worshipped gods, as did Soyinka's ancestors. That he has chosen to go back to worship the gods of his forefathers should not be a reason to mock him.
