Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this article is based on my personal experience.

I work with a High profile federal government parastatal with good remuneration.

We were 100 that was employed in 2013 drawing from South and North.
We have been promoted 3 times and expecting another promotion.

But something is disturbing me as a Southerner from South East.
About 25 persons from my set have resigned and relocated abroad. Only 2 are still in Nigeria.

It is more shocking that this 25 persons are all from the South. Either South West or South East or South South.

My fear is the implications when our set will get to the pick.
No northerner had resigned or thinking of resigning as at today.

The future implications is that they will occupy majority of the apex positions in this parastatal and the south will start shouting marginalization and why all top directors are from the north.

The last meeting I had at the NNPCL Head quarter's Abuja saw 99% of Top Management Staff from the north.

During The introduction of members I was shaking my head. This bring me to ask, could this issue I am experiencing in my own organization be the same in NNPCL?

Currently a Lady I know in NNPCL resigned and moved to Canada. You already know the future implications to the South when her set will get to the top.

Why are Southerners relocating and leaving their beautiful jobs why the northerners are comfortably enjoying the same work.

Is this greed on the south or that our problems are too much?

I taunt my friend from sokoto some days ago why he doesn't want to japa, he laughed and answered me, to do what over there?

Why are the southerners the only people who sees reasons to japa?
Knowing that we can not live past 100 yrs and we can not go anywhere with all this wealth.

Remember the higher a southerner become a director, the higher the chance of Southerners getting employment in this organizations.

This issue cut across every government sectors, from the police, army,just name it you least see a Southerners in top positions, even in entry level, they don't do pass ten years, they are off to seek for greener pastures aboard.

Keep staying there as a southerner. Hard jobs come they'll call the southerners, time for reward it will go to a northerner. Another of his beneficiary was just appointed permanent secretary recently.
He has started giving southerners Job too.
The problem is us not the northerners.
Imagine having 30 people climb up the ladder and 7 of them are Southerners, it will still be good because 7 southerners will get Job but if among the 30 no southerner, the FG can not appoint a junior southerner when there are seniors from the north. Never.

My uncle gave people Job in many government agencies and parastatals. Some are DPOs, Controllers both in immigration and customs, some are Captains in Army, navy and Air Force. They are climbing with their set, if they remain till their pick, one of them must join the top ladder because federal character is still being used where you have personnel across the geopolitical regions.
Greed is stopping us from taking what belongs to us.

We have seen a lot of them telling us the mistakes they made.
If there is no Igboman in my set in the next 15 years, then no Igboman will be a director as at then so we should not be chanting marginalization when we marginalized ourselves because of greed.

So the federal agency is NNPC right?

The Northerners have their reasons-
- they cant compete when merit is used ( we can see it in the jamb scores, common entrance scores etc)
- they dont like the west, many are in middle east , sudan etc. south is more influenced by the west.
-some northerners are satisfied with bare minimum, many southerners want better for themselves and children.

An average southerner is infected with the abroad greener pasture syndrome, our blind idea of life elsewhere in any colonial masters land is that the place is paradise and nothing of our own is nice for human beings to thrive on. The I better pass my neighbor syndrome is too strong here and makes an average southern Nigerian greedy, even if God has settled him with all the goodies of life, it's still not enough, eventually some loses their life earnings because of this when they do not appreciate what God has done for them.

Their plan is working gradually.

They will crash our economy and force us to migrate and then use us for labour then pay peanut. Use us to build their country the second time!

Southerners av high expectations. From my area, at the age of 14, young boys are already dreaming big and driving fancy cars. In the North, it not like that. Northerners are contempted with what they av. Even if it 100 Naira daily, they will not complain. They just want to eat, work and sleep. The ones that gets to NNPCL still av a fracture of that spirit embedded in their dna....


If a southerners gathers 100million Naira. He will come to Nairaland front page and ask "Which country can I relocate to and have peace of mind ?"

Bt a Northerner Will never dream like that. They would rather work and work and just be thankful for living.


Overall, even with the High numbers of Northerners in nnpcl and in govt, military, and others, their region still remains the poorest region in Nigeria. Go to South South, u will think u are in a different country entirely.


PS: i av been to almost all d states in the North.

Most of my pally now are northerners and I interact with more Northerners daily than southerners

Not only in your organisation oh..... It's d season, infact after covid19 d number of Nigerians that have moved permanently overseas have doubled or tripled...they take loans, sell all their properties they worked over 30 yrs to get in Nigeria jst to go abroad.....

Like I said it's d season, we'll soon get tired of relocating and people who have relocated will soon start coming back

D OP raised a very important observation though, southerner are running, especially the smart southerners, later we'll start complaining that d country is bad, why because na only dull people remain.... Na dull people go vote, na dull people go rule.... So when d country wan better, when all our best brains Don comut country?

Try to check up on your former colleagues. They might be in better positions today. Maybe you’ll be inspired to follow their example.

Have you ever asked yourself why the South is better developed with higher quality of life despite the North occupying top political positions? It boils down to being strategic.

The average Southerner thinks far. The world economy today requires people to think beyond local environments. The average Southerner thinks globally while the average Northerner thinks locally because he can't compete globally.

For example, even if you're earning ₦1,000,000 monthly in your Federal Government job, it's barely more than $600, which many factory workers in the US earn per week.

Then, considering security, no matter how insecure US, UK, Canada, or Australia may be, you can't compare it with Nigeria where there are ALWAYS a million ways to die. So, enjoy your federal job and leave those who are seeking greener pastures to do so.

Wen u get to the top, if by luck we have southern president, they would quickly appoint directorate cadre to fill in, the existing shortfalls.

I don't know if you aware that PS appointments is on-going now, and that they microzoned the appointments to States that vacancies exist and not by strictly seniority?
