The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area has officially renamed the administration block of the council, replacing the name of former governor Nyesom Wike with that of Senator Dr. Obi Wali, News360 Nigeria reports

The announcement was made via the chairman’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he stated:

“We have changed Wike’s name in the admin block of Obio/Akpor Council, and replaced it with the name of SENATOR DR. OBI WALI.”

This move signifies a shift in the recognition of individuals who have contributed to the region’s development, with Senator Dr. Obi Wali now being honored for his legacy.

Obi Wali (27 February 1932 – 26 April 1993) was a minority rights activist, politician, distinguished senator, literary scholar, and an orator from Obio/Akpor in Rivers State.

Among his achievements, he fought for the cause of the Ikwerre ethnic minorities and argued that African literature should be written in African languages.

not just mile 4.. armoured tanks were even positioned at different parts of Port Harcourt security reasons due what it was alleged about the items to be provided for his burial to take place... Time indeed flies...

I remember what Wike did to Célestine Omehia.Recalled him as one of de ex Govs, to spite Amaechi,even added his pic frame near the ones of ex governors announced he'd pay all his entitlements.
Months later,still use his hand to remove him,remove picture and stripped him of them.
He's a mad man

Obi Wali is a real African. If he was still alive I would have paid him a visit to learn more from him about the destruction of African languages in literature.

He and Ngugi wa Thiongo have been hidden away from you because they stood on the side of African languages. Yet, they're the people you should know as an African.

The people pushed to you as "literary giants" are the ones who sided with white imperialists to bring down the black civilization.
