Whao. We learn each day. I only know RNs that won't consider traveling nurse option.

The $5K a year is the Canada child benefit for a family of 4 with family income of $140K irrespective of the province they reside. One child is less than 6 and the other is between 6 and 12. The amount changes with age.

That must be gross. With net 117k na $1900 for under 2 baby in Alberta. If you consider GST, AFCB.. All don go cry

Not limited to just Lagos, you can use any marriage registry.

It went very well. I wasn’t asked any questions about P.O.F. Just the usual - have you committed crime before etc.

I would type my landing experience and my Nairaland testimony soon.

I’m new in Toronto o, please I welcome every social/ help / job connect I can get from here.

I have very thorough experience with Agriculture Production and administration, I am a handyman - so I like to work outdoors.

Good morning sir,Pls advise me.Am planning to do Court wedding with my Fiance.Do Embassy accept Marriage Certificate from any other state in Nigeria? Or must it come from Federal Marriage Registry Ikoyi Lagos?. meanwhile,I base in the Eastern Region of Nigeria.pls advise me.

All marriage registries certificate accross the country are valid. You don't need to travel Ikoyi. Use your local govt.

GST is totally gone once the family adjusted net income is more than 65K for couple with 2 children. It is a situation where the government said you are too rich for them to help you, but you are too poor to give up government help.

True, most managers do not earn 200k. Range is usually between 80-160k. Manager na just tag. Though some senior senior managers may get big bonuses and extra cash from profit sharing taking their total earnings above the 200k mark. I work in the health sector and we have Nigerian doctors, nurses earning 200k-500k. 99% of them immigrated 15-30years ago.....make new immigrant chasing 6figures no kill themselves o. 100k is 68k at the end of the year grin 50k is 37k. grin 50k may get around 6-10k from the govt depending on family size. Taking total earning to 47k. 100k gets nothing.. cry
Generally, I have noticed that earnings or even financial independence takes years to attain. The advent of social media made it look so easy. Tech too did not help matters.

I am curious, for Canada, what are the potential entrepreneurial opportunities (no matter how crude) for first generation immigrants to fast-track one's entry into financial comfort?

I believe they should accept once it is from your legal state Governemnt. I didn’t get married in Lagos talk less of Ikoyi, I got married in my local government council. Go and ask and follow their procedures to get the proper certificates.

All the best.

It used to be Dublin. Now, it's Rome.
You will likely be inside the plane and not descend. The plane, I think, is only stopping for refuelling. So, you have no reason to be worrying about transit visa. If you actually needed a transit visa, Ethiopian would have indicated it.

Thank you so much. I have booked my flight for early December. I'm heading to Edmonton. I know it's going to be cold then but I'm kinda anticipating it grin

Lol. The person must be putting in up to 30 hours overtime every week for the whole year. No wonder 'slump and die' is increasing rapidly within Naija medical workers abroad.

Enjoyed reading your diary.
Made me fancy Capetown, and plan to visit someday.

Landed in CA about 6 months ago in March as PR. Its been a long ride , finding a good job in my field (Data ) and finally settling in. I got my first job offer in June, resumed in July, and then another one I started in August. People say that was fast. lol. It was a long and stressful period but I can say that coming to Canada is not vibes. Preparation and resilience is important.
Having support in your first few months after landing is super important. Family support, community support or any kind of support.

I have documented most of my experiences here on Nairaland. https://www.nairaland.com/7989437/maple-land-japa-diaries

I believe one or two people may find some info useful from my experience.

Hey guys. Some of us without any higher degree from any institution, but what's our chances of migrating to Canada without going through the study route? Although I just got certified as a data analyst, and I also have a digital marketing certification. Must I be a graduate before going this part? Because I understand if I want to go through the study route, it's going to cost a lot, and also age is not on my side. Please someone help me clerify this issue for me.

Did mine last December. I followed the instructions on the High Commission’s website and had no issues. New passport was sent to me in less than 3 weeks.

Has anyone been able to renew their passport with this NIS mobile app that was recently announced?

I have an appointment next week but it will be way more convenient for me to renew at my location than travelling all the way to Ottawa.

You didn't share your tech stack and your city so I can't really say anything in regards to the job hunting. You can apply for this https://obsidi.com/academy/ though

For nursing, check out after degree nursing Lakehead Uni, U of Lethbridge, U of Calgary, LPN from Norquest College
