Russia is struggling against a smaller nation's army being supplied by old USA and NATO inventory.
Yes they are overrated.

They can easily just end this by pulling their army out of Ukraine and returning all annexed territory, but pride will not let putin save face.

By encircle you mean Russia's neighbors choosing to allie themselves with the west in their own self interest and benefit, which they can because they are sovereign nations. Putins Ego being hurt is not a basis for war.

What was the fuss about when the USSR put nuclear missiles in Cuba with Cuba's consent and free will ? It's ok for the USA to consider that a security threat, but it is not ok for Russia to consider a USA armed nazi genocidal regime at its doorstep a threat ?

The soviet union fought alone in Afghanistan whereas the USA went in with around 15 other countries.

While the soviet union was fighting in Afghanistan, the USA was supplying the Taliban and Al-Qaida with weapons, when the USA and its 15 allies went into Afghanistan, Russia didn't supply weapons to the taliban nor to Al-Qaida.

Russian propaganda fantasy, they joined Nato in the fear of being annexed by Russia, and looking at Ukraine they were correct to do that.
Also joining the EU or being allies with the west has provided former Soviet states with better standards of living and economy.

I mean we just saw him brandish z crazy and stupid "victory plan" to end the war in 2025 and also we heard him praying for nuclear weapons to end the war, yet you think that Russia should end the war by surrendering to the losing side ?
