People who have lived or traveled abroad, abeg is it done over there that government gives people ultimatum to develop their land or lose it to government's land grabbing?

I'm in for any urban redevelopment or renewal project so i support wike on this. Remove his abrasive nature, Wike is someone whose infrastructural development is evident for us to see and he is actually working as FCT minister.

What does urbanization has to do with this?

In what world world is it normal for government to take over Ur land because u don't have money to develop it? Like don't u understand what U are supporting?

There are people who own lands but can't develop for now due to the economic situation of the country. So such persons should lose their land if they can cough out tens of millions to develop the land within the next 3 months right?

The country is currently going through serious financial mess right now and people are struggling to survive. Some people have abandoned their building projects due to paucity of funds. Does the government want them to steal to complete the buildings within the next 3 months?

No chief na your bias dey talk here

A lot of people just buy land in Abuja for speculation. Some even build with the same intent on. Build and then sell when you need money. Abuja is full of empty edifices

No way a company like Julius Berger does not have the resources to build on land they have owned for 20 years. In fact imho they had that land as a planned gift to a politician for contract.

You are totally wrong on this one 100%.

This is not even about the Julius berger matter.

I posted a news that says Wike the FCT minister gives land owners and property developers 3 months to develop their lands / uncompleted building or lose it to government.

Please tell me, what law is he relying on giving such ultimatum. Is there any law that stipulates the number of days/weeks/months/years one must develop/complete his land/property in FCT or Nigeria as a whole. If there's such law, please share with me let me learn.

Urbanisation has alot to do with the context of your screenshot because it specifically said federal capital city FCC, not federal capital territory FCT.

The FCC is the central areas which should have been fully build up before other areas. But you will discover so many empty lands and uncompleted projects even before our eceonomic mess. Like in the case of JB who left their land unattended to for 20years. Meanwhile, other areas in the territory are experiencing total build-up while having the centre with isolated buildings. Do you think if there are empty lands in lagos city centre ikorodu and other adjoining settlements in lagos would have seen much development?

So what Wike is saying in a nutshell is that build the city centre first before moving away. It even helps to create a less car-centric city.

First and foremost, we have one major problem in this country and it is : We usually take anything anybody in government says as if it is the law when in fact it is not. ( read this again).

Was there any law or directive that accompanied the C of O issued to the land owners/property owners at the time they bought their lands which says they must develop the land between a particular time-frame? If no, then it is bullshiit to start pressuring anybody to develop their land or lose it. Things like this only happen in lawless countries where anybody in government can arrogate non-existent powers to themselves and start doing as they like.

It's just pure sentiment on Ur part to say "the areas should've been fully built by now ". Did the govenrment know the income level of people they were selling lands to in the first place? And why is it even a crime to buy land, keep it and sell it after it appreciates? What is government's concern whatever I do with my land so far I don't use it for criminal purposes?

See ehn, people in government will keep riding u like a donkey if u keep making excuses for them and defending them when they mess up.

As for Ikorodu and other outskirts of Lagos u mentioned, people will always build anywhere they find land provided the economic situation affords them that opportunity/luxury.

The fact that we don't like a person or government shouldn't make us not to see objectivity in what they're saying sometimes.

I am not pro APC,i didn't defend Buhari, neither did i campaign for Tinubu and am not callous to say people who bought land in an estate didn't do their due diligence. But on this, i am with Wike.

Now imagine yourself as the FCT minister driving around the city centre seeing underdeveloped lands and abandoned projects at every nook and cranny around the city centre. You will be forced to make enquiries about it and if you discover they have been abandoned for years, won't you give ultimatum for them to do something or risks losing it? Mind you these lands and abandoned projects are in critical areas of the city.

You are not addressing the point I raised in my response ; all you are doing is still repeating the same thing over and over again.

If you want to talk about objectivity then you need to be objective. Show me the law that says you must develop Ur land within FCT or FCC within a particular time-frame which Wike is relying on.

You can like Wike or whatever you think he's doing but what he's doing; is there a law that backs him up to do that? Is that hard for you to answer?

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

You are being clever by half.

You think I don't know what Land use act says?

Have not been following the discussion since morning? If government must take a land under the land use act, there's a due process to it.

That's by the way, it has absolutely nothing to do with Wike giving land owners ultimatum to develop their land or lose it. That does not in any way fall within the ambit of Land use act provision that government can only take a land for public use with due monetary compensation.

I ask again; "Show me the law that empowers Wike to grab people's land because they are unable to develop their land within the 3 months time-frame he conjured in his brain".
