GDP is a lopsided way to assess living standards. You do that with HDI. GDP simply tells how much the citizens are worth based on the wealth it generates. However, for some places, it doesn't translate to a high purchasing power or even tells us how many jobs are available for new graduates. GDP by PPP actually shows the purchasing power of the citizens/residents in a country regardless of the population. China with its slightly lower population has a higher GDP by PPP than India. Nigerians, in fact, I would say some state residents spend more than many African countries' citizens.

Tech provides jobs, stable, learning opportunities and permanent than content creation. Content creation isn't tech. By tech, I mean actual jobs in companies within the technology division - software engineering, developers etc. So the posts by @MT are accurate - Nigerian banks pay their tech bros and sis very very well. Those people earn a lot of money. That's not content creation.
bro we don't earn lots of money. Firstly nigerian main banks (not fintech startups) usually employ us as contractors(not fulltime) then they pay us within they range us 500 -600k which is not up to 400 dollars now. Fintechs also pay that range or less. To make a million you need to work for more than two at a time which is very stressful and challenging

I now work so i will get back all spent double within few space of time. Remember that exchange rate is 2200 if my partner n I could save 2500 every month in a year that is 30,000 = 66 million and if i do that for 2 years that's 132m. Meaning i have made over 100m from 30 plus investment. I could now return to Nigeria to invest 50% of that money n leave rest of my life in retirement
so you guys over there are the one praying we should keep having devalued currently to keep your hope alive over there

Yet those places have a higher unemployment rate than Nigeria. Please don't compare Ethiopia or Angola to Nigeria. The thing with entrepreneurship is that anyone can make it anywhere, but in Africa, the chances are higher in Nigeria than those places you mentioned except maybe Egypt, which I do not see as "Africa".
yea Egypt isn't Africa it's Europe! Even south Africa too, scyelles, Mauritius, Namibia, gabon, Morocco, Tunisia. Because they're better for entrepreneurs than Nigeria. I mean far better

Once an Africa country is better than Nigeria it becomes Europe. And no longer Africa. You know nothing about Africa except Nigeria

I guess you're shocked because you hardly hear them making noise. All along you rated Nigeria so high because it's your country. Sorry to burst your bubbles. You're so ignorant.

Stats already prove it. Counter it with your own stats not some gibberish ai essays

I don't argue like idiots. See angola and Ethiopia gdp higher than Nigeria. Scyelles is Europe haven compared to Nigeria.

Life no easy even on a bed of roses there are thorns. Anyone who tell you say naija beta than abroad na evil person or the person dey stuck in naija or lazy or no want betta thing for you. If you can Japa, Japa. God will bless your hustle. If you are in Nigeria , God will help you. Some people you hear say they are coming to Nigeria it's either they have papers to leave Nigeria anytime and easily not needing visa or them deport them. May God forgive us Nigerians because na we spoil our country use our hand and mouth spoil it. Rape, murder, vote rigging, ritual, yahoo yahoo, voting and supporting evil leaders, cultism etc

What is the HDI in Nigeria if I may ask you? Is it higher than Zimbabwe or Angola. ?

If the GDP per capita is low you think the HDI will be high?

the truth is Nigeria is truly and completely
well-finished but you guys are finding it hard to take it in.

And which one is technological division. You have no idea what you're saying. There is nothing like that.

All the software developers in Nigeria you see are all working for foreign companies remotely.

There is no tech job in Nigeria.

End of discussion With your ai reply.

Which tech company will stay in a country with no light, security, extreme poor network. A country you can't use your debit card to shop online.Kai!

The bolded is a big lie and I know some tech guys, reading your comment, are making a fool out of you right now grin grin .

One, why are you guys so addicted to the US dollars? Why are you converting your earning to dollars? Are you spending dollars in Nigeria? Are you exposed to the same cost of living? Are you living in the United States?

Two, you are employed on a temporal basis as a contractor. They needed more hands and they brought you in, after which you will be discarded. You are not a full time tech staff of the bank. You are not entitled to any perks.

Three, your payment is fully dependent on the banks you work for, your tech competencies, your grade. You are a contract staff, and if you demonstrate a vast technical depth, the bank will transition you to a full staff.

Four, if you as a contractor can earn between 500 to 600, can you figure out how much a full time bank tech staff is earning ?. And going by this salary you are earning as a contractor, you are not a senior. Just learning the ropes.

So, I don't understand what you meant by "we" don't earn that much. Thats quite generalistic, talk about your own situation.

This is a rejoinder because i felt that if i dont give an account on how it ended it won't be nice.
Here is the other or first thread about my complaint and how i found it difficult to adjust and meet up my financial obligations in uk.
https://www.nairaland.com/7889678/experience-uk-since-japa-warning

I want to thank all those who advised me to stay back and fight it through. After reading those positive comments and some friends here i decided to stay back.
Today i want you all to join me celebrate as i have graduated from the University here and my graduation is coming up November 29th 2024.
It was not an easy journey honestly at first i thought it will be impossible to complete my studies giving the fact that school started mounting pressure on me shortly after i decided to stay back.

I got first job December/January but honestly it couldn't sustain house rent. So i had to sell some properties in Naija to remain afloat, Then stopped the job i was on when i got another one and the pay was sustainable but lost that one after few months. Then my dependant who came leta got a job and together our finances could now sustain and also clear fees balance.
The property I sold enabled me to clear some part of school fees because that is the main burden to student aside rent

Lessons learnt so far:

1) To all folks planing on japa via school should make adequate preparation, do your planning/home work well because the first 6 months in UK is not for the faint hearted. On the aspect of school feee ensure you have plans on how to get it cleared as fast as possible.

2) If you don't know how to drive please and please learn it. You don't need to have a car before u learn. Learn now... Like now its a skill that is valuable in all field.

3) Again if you plan to japa now or in future, please know thar driving or knowing how to drive is a skill its self.

4) It is quite expensive to learn how to drive when u leave Nigeria. You can spend over 5m to learn how to drive in UK.

5) Buying a car is far cheaper as a month rent is enough to get you a modern car.

6) Having a car and a driver licence will open doors for you that are impossible to open

7) No one (Nigerians) borrow or lend any money in the UK.. I mean reasonable money like 100, 200 etc. Although u could get credit card. I mean abeg borrow me this money i go pay back so soo time.

cool life could be lonely amongst the Nigerian communities as everyone is chasing money. But is life fun for British? Yes the British like a fun filled lifestyle. We dont club 1/10th in Nigeria like they do here but can you foot the bill like a newcomer in town?

9) it takes an average of 3 months to 4 months to get a job. Soo I will say there are jobs especially for those who have previous experience in a field. The more experience u have the better and faster u are to get jobs.

10) don't learn automatic driving leaving manual. Please learn manual car driving then u could learn automatic. 80% of cars here are manual. U can see 2020 manual car model everywhere

11) you could use public transport to get to a place in 2:30hrs whereas same place will take u 13 minutes or less with your private car.

12) food is crazy cheap but house rent is not cheap. So staying in remote places could safe u more assuming u have a car to get to place of work.

13) if you are coming its good to have 1000 pounds set aside to learn skills thay could land u job easily. This skills and certification are just few weeks to achieve.

14) learn to network with those on ground. They already know or have some job connections hidden that could take u years to find out.

15) at least know the basics of computer operations like how to send mail, do job search via indeed. Use ms Word etc it helps.
16) in Nigeria when see someon or stranger u stone ur face.. Bone ur face trying to investigate but in the uk its otherwise. When u see someone u smile.. And be polite.

17) no power failure not even a seconds.

18) all road are connected

19) nothing like tribalism or regionality in UK. Like every uk sees him or her self equal and uphold their nationality unlike tribes we do in Nigeria.

Trash.

Also, no matter what you do, please do NOT get care COS. Your wife can get it but never you!

Also only allow your wife to get it if you are sure she has sense and she wont change it for you later, most men are now in dilemma cos the wives are using that power of COS against them.

When it's time for mortgage too, make sure U buy alone and not joint with your partner except you are VERY VERY sure she is not like 98% of the Nigerian women in the UK.

Okay i am in the mood now.

Attached is my first contract for an automotive manufacturer in the US I work for remotely

I make 4000 usd a month from that job. I have a second part time job with a company from the dominican republic which i make 2500 usd a month equivalently and my last job which i just got recently is with the chilean state bank where i earn 2.6 million pesos which comes down to around 3000 usd a month. I am also attaching a screenshot of my taxes which I pay from my american job. We no be mates.

You can see that my tax payments coincides with when i got my first remote job as I pay 3 taxes in chile but one of them is as an independent contractor which I need to file for every month F29. My total taxes every month is around 1.3 million chilean pesos. Many chileans dont even earn above 500000 pesos.

I still have another part time job I don't even wanna talk about and I am also trying to get an offer with another bank. My dms have been a mess since I started working for the Chilean state bank

Convert the proceed of the sale into pounds and see how much it comes to, not sure the 3000 pounds plus you realise would lead you anyway where though.

I’m planning to relocate to the UK for work and would appreciate any guidance on the criteria I need to meet. Could you also provide insight into the typical expenses and funds needed for a smooth transition?

To support this move, I’m considering selling my car, valued at around 6-7 million, as well as land worth 2 million. In your opinion, would this be sufficient to achieve my relocation goals?

Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to any advice you can offer.

The answer is UK. The training U receive in UK can open doors for U anywhere in the world. Lots of recruiters favours UK professionals esp in places like middle east, far east and even other Anglophile nations.

Nigeria is not finished. Maybe you are.

People are still getting good jobs.

I consult for a financial institution in Nigeria on enterprise tech solution and I know young guys (between 24 to 27 years) getting jobs every week, travelling out on holiday to western world, balling big and coming back. Most of them work remotely, enjoy their lives. Companies abroad headhunt most of them, and the bank keeps recruiting with good pay in Nigeria standard.

These guys easily go to any embassy and get visa. I witness it. These guys choose and pick jobs. Banks place them on special salary scale, different from the operations guys. They have enviable perks. Banks send them on trainings in western worlds and they never think of japa. They go and come back, even collect fat estacode.

I am not talking about any dicks and harrys, I am talking about tech guys, which is my turf . Come to Island in Lagos and see for yourself.

So, if you are finished as an individual, there are some people killing it big in Nigeria, and hey, they are not politicians but they have skillsets which you lack.

And hey, how is Chile where you are slaving?

You use 0.00000001% of the entire population to generalize that Nigeria is working? It's important to always look at the generality of the country not just a selected few to make general statements. The reality is that Nigeria has over 100 million citizens below poverty line with more sinking by the day due to Tpain's policy. Just because a very selected few are balling doesn't mean things are working right.

Are you alright at all?

The currency is not indicated on your payslip but I would even assume your salary is based on the US dollars. You make 2,769.49 per month. In July, you worked overtime and you earned 3,105 USD. This is your Net pay (after tax is deducted).

You will pay bills, you will eat. How much does it remains? You are barely getting by.

So, where is your much touted 10,000 USD per month coming from.

Stop having an exagerrated opinion about yourself. Cockroach behaving like bird.

Thanks for the advise, planning to move to the Uk, pls can you elaborate slightly on what you meant by envious users.

What in all the junk he wrote there is good advice?

Genuine care COS in the private sector that is seriously very scare or the ones from NHS , that has thousands of others already in the UK, are also chasing?🙄

UK is not Nigeria, where you will be forming wetin person bo know , when it comes to jobs or getting mortgage, no be by forming macho.

Relocate to the UK with an open mind, no matter how toxic some people you will meet will be, you would also get to meet people who would look out for you, people who would get drawn to you for the positive energy you exude.
