There's was a channel (USM) on telegram I joined some years back while searching for a way out of my situation then, the owner advice us to save in $, I never regretted doing that till date. We started saving in $ when it was N400 to a $.

Good to hear from someone who actually did same.

I was giving this advice on NL before the Naira dropped to 200/1. I was advising on my own experience and observations. I was even advising people to buy assets ... take huge loans if you can ... buy currency.. buy assets. Currencies do fluctuate but this Naira is and will be heading downhill for the foreseeable future.

The plan is once I sell. I will use half of the money to get 8plots that's an acre, you see why real estate is a cheat code to wealth grin

Honestly, that is a fantastic plan. Keep it up.

I missed a property four years ago,the property got sold for 5million naira in 2020...it was not up to 5months when the price went up to 20million.

Now,I went to enquire about the property, they said it is now 100million.

I was dazed and to be honest,I did not sleep that day. I just took my mind back when the seller was begging me to buy and I refused.

I am in the same shoes. My colleagues are studying further, gathering different certificates here and there, but to me, when you look at the situation of this country, those certificates will lead to nowhere and that makes them a waste of time and money.

Therefore, I started early to prepare for retirement by learning tech skills that I can continue to do and get paid even at 90 years old as long as one can still operate a computer.

My advice to salary earners, I am a graduate of Accounting and I have been working for the past 12 years but presently I don't have any savings. I have made some mistakes during this journey.
Below are my advice to salary earners so that you won't live in regrets as I am presently:

1. Save at least 20% of your earnings you can increase it if you have the capacity but it must not be below 20%, you can save it in a co-operative society, I learned that after some few months, they will lend you three times of the money you save with low interest rate.

2.Try and have a business plan, calculate the amount you will need for the business and save towards it, you don't need to leave your work unless it grows to a certain level that can pay 3 times your salary.

3. Don't touch your savings unless for business, it is good to save it where you can't easily access it , co-operative society, bank with instructions on duration etc

4. Don't entrust your business with family members, they don't take it serious, I have bad experience with this and I am regretting it.

5. Don't lend out your savings, people might not return it, I have bad experience with this and I am regretting it.

6. If you are working in a company where you have access to loan, please make use of the opportunity as the interest rate is low invest it in a business, there is no access to loan in my company so I don't have the opportunity..

7. Lastly know that you can't be young for life make sure you have a business running for you so that when the work force is rejecting your age limit, you will have something to fall back on
I reject poverty for me and you.
Thank you.

Thank you for advertising corporative society, that's the best place to keep your money. At the end of the year, the dividend is also superb

Okay.
The side hustle you talked about, is also a business. Both can fail you. Better to just take the risk of doing anyone that catches ones interest.
Risk-taking is something else, and we all have different risk tolerances.

My question is this: If the guy who started this thread uses his life savings to start a business, and it fails, do you think he will not think of committing suicide with his tone? My comment only highlighted the high risk of business failure. So, do you really believe that personal savings, particularly in a harsh economy like Nigeria, are only sufficient for a first-time business venture? It is now up to everyone. We should decide what we want. But I advise everyone to be prepared to fail. Why take such a risk if you know you will be unable to recover from such failure? That is an unnecessary risk. But some will still do it, and they will begin shouting "my hard-earned savings." Lol.

As a teacher in a private school in Lagos, you're looking to supplement your income since your school doesn't support after-school lessons. Your side hustle in branding t-shirts, exercise books, and banners is a great start, but you're right to explore other options to increase your earnings. Here are some ideas to consider:

Online Opportunities:

1. Online Tutoring: Offer your teaching services online, focusing on students who need extra help outside of regular school hours. You can use platforms like TutorMe, Chegg, or Varsity Tutors.
2. Course Creation: Develop and sell online courses teaching subjects you're knowledgeable in. Platforms like Udemy, Teachable, or Skillshare can host your courses.
3. Affiliate Marketing: Promote educational resources, products, or services and earn a commission for each sale made through your unique referral link.

Offline Ventures:

1. Private Lessons: Offer private lessons to students outside of your school, either in-person or online. You can advertise your services on social media or use word-of-mouth referrals.
2. Test Prep: Prepare students for standardized tests like JAMB, WAEC, or NECO. You can partner with local tutorial centers or offer private sessions.
3. Educational Workshops: Organize workshops or seminars on topics related to your subject area. You can charge attendees a fee and offer additional resources or services.

*Other Ideas:*

1. Sell Educational Materials: Create and sell educational materials like study guides, past questions, or revision notes.
2. Partner with Local Businesses: Collaborate with local businesses to offer educational services or workshops, potentially generating revenue for both parties.
3. Freelance Writing: Offer your writing services to educational publications, websites, or companies needing content related to your subject area.
4. EdTech Development: Create educational software, apps, or games that cater to the Nigerian market.
5. Consulting: Offer consulting services to schools, educational institutions, or individuals seeking guidance on educational matters.

Branding and Marketing:

1. Develop a Strong Online Presence: Create a professional website or blog to showcase your services, skills, and experience.
2. Social Media Marketing: Leverage social media platforms to promote your services, engage with potential clients, and build your personal brand.
3. Networking: Attend educational conferences, seminars, and workshops to connect with potential clients, partners, or collaborators.

Tips:

1. Start Small: Begin with one or two new ventures and gradually scale up as you gain momentum.
2. Be Patient: Building a successful side hustle takes time, effort, and perseverance.
3. Stay Organized: Manage your time effectively to balance your teaching responsibilities with your side hustles.
4. Continuously Learn: Update your skills and knowledge to stay competitive in the educational landscape.

Remember, these ideas are just a starting point. Be creative, innovative, and open to exploring new opportunities. Good luck!

You already into the business of perfume.
How are you using social media to leverage on your business?
If banks have a department specifically for just social media posting, how much more you?
Here's what you would do
1. Look for those in the same line of business you do offline and offer to be their social media manager for free or paid that way you get to learn more about the business
2. Search for the best perfume sellers in the world, Africa and Nigeria on social media, look at what they are doing and see if you can replicate that about your business on social media

All the best.

Good luck!
