The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, a lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Mr Stephen Abuwatseya.

According to a statement released by the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred when Abuwatseya delivered a package to Ikwegh’s residence, with a dispute arising over the delivery method.

Ikwegh allegedly slapped the driver and made derogatory comments about the Inspector General of Police.

The FCT Police Command expressed concern over Ikwegh’s attitude, stating that he is undergoing questioning at the Maitama Police Station.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.

“The FCT Police Command expresses grave concern over Hon. Ikwegh’s dismissive attitude toward the office of the Inspector General of Police following the incident.

After allegedly slapping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.

“Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning,” the FCT police said.

The incident took place on Sunday at Ikwegh’s Abuja residence. The Bolt driver, Mr. Abuwatseya, delivered a package to the lawmaker, but a dispute arose over the delivery method. Ikwegh allegedly slapped the driver.

“You are a common bolt driver, you are a poor man and you have pride,” the driver quoted the Abia State lawmaker as saying.

The driver was subsequently arrested and taken to the Maitama Police Station, where he was denied the right to receive calls. Police officers at the station accused him of going to fight a “senator” in his home.

Although released, his car is still in the custody of the police.

Very good...
No matter what happened you don't have a right to beat up somebody that is doing his job.
If you are not satisfied with his services then don't order him next time. Slapping and tearing clothes is taking things too far.

Alex Ikwechegh is a fat head for this unnecessary show of power.

The police should put him in the cell for one hour and let his fellow detainees show him what it means to powerless and helpless.

Nonsense!

Nigeria shall be great again.

We are getting closer and closer.....Keep holding them accountable.

How can the same government that removed subsidy making life difficult for Nigerians be slapping people hustling to make ends meet.

Kuku kill us.....We die there.

For me it's not even about the slap but his utterance that he can make the driver disappear and nothing will happen. He should be recalled immediately because his arrogance doesn't allow him to know who he is or why he's there in the first place.

He thought he was elected to Lord over those that elected him instead of representing them.

You arrested him because of Dismissive Attitude towards the office of the Inspector General of Police Not because he verbally and physically assaulted a bolt driver.... Shame on you guys.

What he did was highly disturbing. That you're a privileged Nigerian in this our trying times doesn't give you the right to trample on ordinary compatriots. It's their tax payers money that's funding your luxurious "politician" lifestyle.

And this new "call the IG" and nothing will happen, needs to be seriously looked into. Even if you know the IG, will he be happy that you're always bringing trouble to his desk? Some people don't think.

More Nigerians need to wear cameras and such spyware. That's one way to sanitise this system.

The MHR was "right" and would have gotten away with his obstreperous physical harassment of the gentleman if the was no video evidence to show.
