WAFU B U-20: Flying Eagles Beat Ghana to Retain Title

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have won this year’s WAFU Zone B championship after defeating Ghana 2-1 in the final on Wednesday.

This means the Flying Eagles have retained the WAFU Zone B title which they won in 2022.

A brace from Kparobo Arierhi was enough to earn coach Aliyu Suberu’s men the trophy.

Arierhi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before getting on the score sheet again to double the lead.

Ghana pulled a goal back in the 74th minute but the Flying Eagles held on to emerge champions.

After losing 1-0 to Burkina Faso in their opening game, the Nigerian team beat Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 to progress into the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, the team came from a goal down to beat Niger Republic.

Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles and Ghana have both qualified for the 2025 U-20 AFCON tournament.

Burkina Faso beat Nigeria 1-0 in the Flying Eagles' first game.

Nigeria beat the Ivory Coast 2-1 in their second game of the tournament.

Nigeria topped its group which included Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.

Ghana topped the other group which included Niger, Togo and Benin.

Nigeria beat Niger 3-1 in its semi final. Ghana beat the Ivory Coast 2-1 in the other semi final.

Ivory Coast beat Niger 2-1 in the third place match.
