They didn't reject it because it is anti-people, they rejected it because of the sharing formula between the states and the central government. Bunch of selfish Baştards.

It should not be totally withdrawn, there's room to refix the contending parts of the bill. Every region stands to gain a lot from tax reform bills. It is time for the federal lawmakers to use their brains if they have any.
I'm shock the bill is going to be withdrawn. This country is not showing signs is ready to take a great leap.

I see nothing wrong with the bill at all. It can be worked on at the national assembly by the lawmakers instead of totally withdrawing the bill.

Democracy is a game of numbers and unity

And the South can never be united

That's why Kano will be destroying bottles of alcohol but will still be enjoying VAT from it form the South (the illiterates)
The Military created more states in the North, they have more lawmakers in the Senate and House of Rep. They have the population advantage

So you really practice democracy in Nigeria?
Yes! If you don't know, democracy is all about compromise. It's not the best form of governance but it carries majority along even if they are in the wrong.

What is good about increasing VAT percentage instead of reducing it.

As if they will use the money for the good of the society.

They are just increasing the pool of money to loot
oga stop wallowing in ignorance, the tax reform bill is not all about VAT. take your time to read about it before coming to the public to disgrace yourself.

. Unfortunately, the legislatures listen to their governors so the bill is as good as dead. Interesting enough, this bill would have put every state on their toes in thinking out of the box , but the baby and the bath water is about to be thrown away due to selfishness of a sections of the country. Smaller businesses, including productive States have a lot to benefit from this bill , it's a pity.

Nigeria is not a 1 mans business. Bills should have the aim of satisfying the needs of the people but Tinubu is only interested in getting more money for him to steal. Whats the aim of trying to fill a basket with water? You need a bucket for that.

No matter how much he earns for govt, if corruption is not fought, the whole money will end up in private accounts or even laundered abroad.

Can he say as at this moment he has made a positive impact on the economy. He is chasing clouds.

It’s okay to hold the presidency to account but where is the collective sense of responsibility from the NORTH?.

When will the North remember almost 10 million children out of school ?.

When will the North can responsibility for making poor leadership choices that has brought the region to its knees ?.

When will the North remember the lack of access to primary education and healthcare?.

When will the North remember how corruption has made it the poverty capital of the country ?

What has the North achieved with the powers it has access to all these years?.

The North gives the impression that it needs power solely to entrench its feudalistic interests rather than advance socioeconomic development and status

This to me is a very big shame.

The problem is you are not looking at the main aim of the bill.

Tinubu is using textbook economics thinking it will play out exactly as the books have said. He did the same with subsidy, it backfired on Nigerians. He did again with forex, it exploded on our face. This one will annihilate us.

What he thinks is that the bill will cause states to sit up and economic growth will happen in every state just as textbooks analyze. But what will actually happen is state fighting states and tax paying organisations will be caught in between fight and transfer all the aggression on Nigerians once more increasing inflation. It will be bad for many companies as states will either force industries to locate factories in their state or risk hostile state laws limiting the companies supply chain. This means state borders will be manned by state tax agencies aim at frustrating targeted businesses that dont pay tax to them. This essentially means Nigerians will pay more to get products

Tinubu is an ideal textbook economist but has no understanding of real economics.

Think again.

Niger Delta for example will get fat revenue as a result of their natural reserves and will take steps to ensure their environmental degradation is contained.

Again, the curbing of militancy and bunkering will become more of their responsibility than of the FGs.
In places where they used to shield their local militants from the FG, they'll become more responsible as their eyes will be more on the bigger picture.

Borno will not fold its hands and allow bandits and herdsmen go rogue on farmsteads and farming communities.

In fact, states are going to drastically clamp down on any group of persons obstructing their revenue flow.

Unproductive states that used to fold their hands and collect allocations will be forced to look inwards to generate revenue.

If this bill is passed and the national grid is eventually unbundled and states allowed to generate power, welcome to the New Nigeria.

If this bill is passed and the national grid is eventually unbundled and states allowed to generate power, welcome to the New Nigeria.

This tax bill has nothing to do with petroleum or national grid.

Unproductive states you say, is it Rivers state or Bayelsa that produces the oil in Niger delta or the FG. Is it States that produce electricity? What is productive about Lagos state government when its the FGs presence that made it commercial hub. PH is another commercial hub made by FG. Kano is a 3rd commercial hub but it is not the FG that made it a commercial hub. If the same FG say they will give more to a state they favoured only because of geographical and natural factors, that means they are not fair to other states like Nasarawa that FG has no investment in. Mind you Kogi, Ebonyi, Benue Nassarawa has Lead, why has the FG not developed mining such that their VAT will be higher. Why is Ajaokuta steel mill, a company that can solve the entire steel needs of Nigeria still comatose and yet you will say Kogi is unproductive. It is the failure of FG that some states are unproductive.

This bill is about VAT. Lagos is tech capital of Nigeria thats why all Bank HQ are in Lagos. All companies that depend on imported raw materials are either in Lagos or PH because of the ports. Locate them in Borno are the cost of production is going higher. Niger state topography is suitable for electricity dam thats why 4 dams are located there. All gas turbine generating stations are located in the closest to source of gas, any other location will increase cost of electricity production. It is a natural thing to put a square peg in a square hole but for you to say a state produces more VAT when FG created the reason why that state produces more VAT is completely wrong.

The fact is, if all Nigerian resources where in one state, every thing produced in Nigeria will be from that state. All fingers are not equal thats why the longest finger (middle finger) is preferable for giving the finger to a woman for more effectiveness.
