Please we plan on going on holy pilgrimage for 10days with our 3 year old but it's going fall during school session...she's just doing 15hrs for now, nothing serious is happening in school. Please how do we navigate this with school.

For a start, I presume there'll be a rush to catch up with the 31st March 2025 cut-off for the current Β£425k stamp duty for first time buyers, especially those in the south.

In the long run, the dreams of many first time buyers in the South will be truncated or paused and forced to remain renters as they'll need to work/save more to cover the stamp duty fee.

If the market crashes, it means first time buyers might be get good deals within the Β£300k range. Although to think of getting a 400/500k house for 300k seems like blind optimism, but nothing is impossible.

On the surface the budget looks appealing but diving into it and the potential impacts shows it leaves much to be desired.

May we not labour in vain!

Zahra29:
It'll be interesting to see what the consequences are, both intended and unintended, of the property related policies in the budget, namely the increase in stamp duty for secondary homes and the reduction in stamp duty threshold for first time buyers (which might have less of an impact up north where houses are cheaper , but will likely affect first time buyers in the south).

There are also new regulations due in the new year such as the Renters bill to give renters more rights and Right to Buy changes which will reduce discounts to buy council homes and allow councils to keep 100% of the receipt of council home sales( hopefully this will help shore up the depleted social housing stock).

Zahra29:

Council tax is paid for in advance and their financial year typically ends in March so I'm guessing that the 5 months bill covers the remaining period from November to March '25 when you will receive a new council tax bill.

You can contact your council to clarify your bill and confirm that you're paying the correct amount for your band:

Thanks lovely.

I neatly had heart attack seeing the amount. Omo, I now understand why they said UK people are stingy

Whilst the Council bills in advance, you can still pay in instalments. Phone them and set up monthly direct debit for the bill.

I hail the financial guru in the house.

I got this credit card in February, and I’ve always made sure to pay off any balance weekly. This kept my balance low, which has been helping my credit score grow (the main reason I got the card). Around August, I started the process of buying a house, and due to the financial strain, I couldn’t continue my weekly payments. Instead, I waited until a few days before the payment due date to pay the balance in full.

However, I started noticing high credit utilization on my credit report, which surprised me. I thought I might be doing something wrong, but the same thing has happened for the last two months.

For example, my billing cycle runs from September 18 to October 17, and the minimum payment is due by November 1. I paid the full balance on October 28, but I’m still getting high credit utilization.

Abeg what am I doing wrong or do I need to talk to my credit card company?

All that ozempic and racism did him no good in the end.
I m very mildly interested in what madam lagos will call us this morning.

She is probably looking at her dictionary.

Lol, yeah the bills might feel on the high side sometimes but it's cheaper and more efficient than if we all had to organise the services ourselves such as waste disposal, road maintenance, utilities etc

As Peerielass advised, you should be able to set up a payment plan when you call them. From March next year you'll have the option to spread your bill over 10 or 12 months.

UK people are very reasonable 😊

I agree, it seems to have already kicked in in some areas

Lol the UK property market will never crash (again). Never say never though as there was a semi crash in 2008, however regulations have tightened up to prevent something similar happening again. In addition, demand is increasingly outstripping the available supply of homes so the only way for most property prices is up, albeit at a slower pace sometimes.

May we not labour in vain!

Amen πŸ™

Lol @ the bolded.

This is the best time to travel with your children. Your 3 year old isn't in compulsory education yet so they are much more relaxed about school absences - you just need to inform the nursery/preschool that you will be away.

When your child starts compulsory education (reception) after their 4th birthday (in England), then you won't be allowed to take her on holiday during term time.

Hear hear πŸŽ‰

I don't know if Kemi will still be leader by the next GE or even by next year lol - you know how ruthless the Tory party is. Still, you have to celebrate the wins and this is a massive accomplishment for a black woman who only became an MP in 2017 - especially when heavy weights such as Duncan Smith, Jeremy Hunt etc tried and failed on more than one occasion to become Tory leader.(And she won very comfortably as well)

Did you see Jenrick's wife's face though? Bless, she couldn't hide her upset. Kemi's husband on the other hand almost jumped out of his chair πŸ˜‚

She was hitting all the right spots to her target audience and saying all they needed to hear. From her acceptance speech reaching out to the reform party or working with them may be her next step and she has enough sweet stories they will also like to hear. Interesting times ahead.

She understood the assignment from day one, she knew exactly what to say to get attention from certain section of the party and so far it worked.

This is one for my daughter.
I will tell her there is no glass ceiling anymore. Kemi has shattered it.

I will tell my daughter that whatever her aspirations are, she can achieve them.

I will tell my daughter to ignore the naysayers who constantly want to discredit the UK as a β€˜racist country’.

Long live Kemi
Long live Nigeria
Long live the UK

You must be kidding.
She feels maternity leave pay is too high (that 90% of pay for 3 months and 800 pounds per month or so ) and calls me and other Nigerians every name in the book.

She has Nigerian roots but she is no Nigerian as you will soon find out.

Rather than this type of representation, let me remain unrepresented.
