Honestly, I'm beginning to wonder if we are in the same country as Lagos.

These guys are about to replicate the 4,000 megawatts we've been managing in the whole country for some years now.

Except that this extra 4,000 megawatts will be JUST FOR LAGOS.

This is a city reaching for the stars.

Nigeria's Lagos seeks investors for 4,000 MW gas-fired power plants

LAGOS, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos on Thursday invited bids for construction of up to 4,000 megawatt (MW) gas-fired power plants to cover a national grid shortfall, seeking to end years of blackouts that have hit businesses and households.

The World Bank says that four in 10 people in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, do not have access to electricity, which investors often cite as one of the major obstacles to investing in the country.

The state government of Lagos, a fast expanding metropolis of more than 20 million residents, said it required 6,000 MW of electricity but was receiving only 2,000 MW at most from the grid.

It has now allocated four hubs for the construction of power stations under its Clean Lagos Electricity Market plan.

"The minimum expected generating capacity for each of the four hubs will be 500 MW, which one or more generating power firms shall generate," the state's ministry of energy and mineral resources said in a public notice.

Selected companies would be expected to arrange their own financing based on a power purchase agreement with the state.
The plans follow a decision last year by President Tinubu to allow state governments to generate and distribute their own power, replacing a previous law that gave only the federal government exclusive rights.

Sub-economic electricity tariffs have discouraged investment by independent power producers in the past, but the government has started to remove electricity subsidies.

Nigeria has the infrastructure to generate 13,000 MW of power, but its creaking grid can distribute only a third of it, forcing businesses and households to run costly fuel generators. On Monday Nigeria suffered its ninth grid collapse this year.

I don't know if to lay curse on OBJ or abuse him this morning over this news. The man really drag Lagos backward. This was part of Tinubu dream back then as Lagos State government, he said a state like Lagos needs to be generating its own energy, but greedy and wicked OBJ used sitting president power to frustrate the dream back then.

I believe if Tinubu has the support and approval of the FG back then, who knows maybe majority of companies that left Nigeria to Ghana back then wouldn't have left.

Meanwhile, its been a while comrade Seunmsg comment or post on this platform, I hope all is well with you bros.

I LOVE LAGOS

The thing about Lagos is that they've passed the level of just getting into power to chop money.

They've advanced beyond that, mentally.

The state is led by visionaries in the finest traditions of Obafemi Awolowo, Tai Solarin, Bola Ige, Lateef Jakande, and Beko Ransome-Kuti.

People who see government as an opportunity to make a difference in their peoples' lives.

Part of the problem with the power project back then was that it involved a certain company called Enron. Which collapsed eventually.

Nothing tinubu or Obasanjo could do about that.

You lie!!!

The amount of stealing goings on in lagos is unbelievable. All the heads of ministry steal, governor steal. Department head steal. Lagos should not be in this level, it should be more developed based on income generated. Even alpha beta on its own is theft, the money being collected is enough to transform places in lagos.

Money is the issue, brother.

Do you know what it will cost to cover all the gutters in Lagos?

A city of 25 million people?

It will cost many billions of dollars.

That is why the priority is to boost power generation dramatically, in order to attract even more investment into the state, from which the government gets corporate taxes, which will eventually boost state income enough to embark on mega-projects like mass underground drainage, sidewalks etc.

Na small small. Relax.

But truth be told, Sanwolu is doing good when you compare with the rest (Respect to Borno state governor, I used to rate Alex Otti high until what I started hearing lately). I think Sanwolu and former President Umaru Musa Yaradua (of blessed memory)'s first son should be given the chance at national leadership...

This is all I want to see. Everyone cannot be as foolish and dumb as BATerians praising Ekiti State government for saying they are licensing Gencos without telling us the energy source! Tell us the source of energy. That's no rocket science!

That wasn't a problem. Enron sold its shares to AES which continued the project. This was before Enron collapsed completley.

(That's why the project was called AES Barge, because it was being run by AES (and Tunde Folawiyo Power) and the plant was on a barge on the Lagos Lagoon, near Egbin Power Plant).
