Chief Emeka Agba, founder of the Chief Emeka Agba Foundation, has urged Nigerian politicians and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to draw lessons from the American presidential election, which saw Donald Trump emerge victorious.

In a recent interview with journalists in Lagos, Agba stressed the need for Nigerian politicians to support free and fair elections, allowing the people to truly choose their leaders through a transparent process. “The fact that Trump could win despite the many challenges he faced before the polls shows that the election was free and fair."

Agba expressed concerns that Nigerians may become disillusioned with the voting process. “People might soon be tired of queuing to vote. They could just say let the INEC allocate the numbers they want, instead of making people sit under the sun to cast votes that don’t reflect their choice.”

He praised the transparency of the American election process, where voting began on the morning of Tuesday, November 5, and results were available by night. “This level of openness is something we can only hope for in Nigeria,” he remarked. “If it were here, INEC might lock up ballots ‘for counting’ only to rig the results in favor of whomever they choose.”

Agba warned of the potential for unrest if the electoral process remains opaque. “You’d see riots breaking out in Kafanchan, Port Harcourt, and other cities. In the midst of the violence, INEC would announce a result that doesn’t reflect the people’s choice.”

He called on Nigerian politicians to prioritize what’s right. “Nigerians deserve to elect leaders who will respect the law and fulfill their terms fairly. Look at Trump, for instance and he has strong views against abortion and same-sex marriage, and he stood by them.”

When asked about the possibility of stricter U.S. immigration policies under Trump, Agba dismissed these concerns. “Immigration has its processes,” he said, adding that Trump’s presidency does not directly impact visa issuance or renewal. “Those speculating about harsh policies are just raising false alarms.”

“If you have a valid visa, you don’t have to worry. The visa gives you the right to be in that country, so you can answer any policeman confidently if stopped. But being illegal in another country is a serious issue—it’s a crime no one wants to face.”

Agba, a long-time admirer of Trump, shared that he was introduced to Trump’s work through the book The Art of the Deal, which inspired him to read more and eventually explore similar principles in his own life. “Reading that book made me appreciate Trump’s success, and I started talking about him to others. Many of my friends even entered the real estate industry after hearing about Trump.”

Agba noted that Trump’s approach to business has influenced his own practices. “I monitored Trump’s strategies closely and applied them locally. When I started seeing success, some people even said I had received a special blessing from God!”

His admiration for Trump runs so deep that Agba named his son after the President-elect and his daughter Ivanka. Like Trump, he teaches his children to believe in themselves while remaining respectful to others.

".....The peaceful conduct of the US elections, along with the efficient transmission and release of results, should serve as an example and an inspiration for Nigeria to abandon outdated practices such as electoral malpractice, vote-buying, election violence, and network disruptions that continue to hinder Nigeria’s democratic process. No democratic election is complete unless the people’s will is genuinely reflected through the ballots.

The election was devoid of any public holiday, stoppage of commercial activities, deployment of heavy military or police presence in the polling booth and there was no ban on travelling from one part of the country to another...."

In the recent elections in South Africa, the people of that country saw, in real-time, as the votes were coming in and everybody could tell who was leading. There is no reason a similar thing cannot happen in Nigeria. Being the giant of Africa should not be in words alone; we can be the giant in practice too.

In the 2023 presidential election, I observed how a new demography of voters emerged in Nigeria and how their hopes were squashed. Young Nigerian people, who were the worst hit by bad governance, took their future into their own hands and were determined to vote in a new lease of political machination into our country.

These people’s hopes were dashed by INEC. One observed how on the Saturday of the presidential elections these young people came out in their numbers to vote, and when they observed the shenanigans of INEC, they completely lost hope in a Nigeria that could work.

The whole japa phenomenon was exacerbated by this reality. Many of them went on TikTok and tore their voters’ cards on live video. When the gubernatorial elections came, they simply did not come out to vote.

INEC had earlier indicated that a large percentage of new voters have come out to exercise their franchise. These young people came out because they believed INEC would do the right thing but they were thoroughly disappointed.

Inferiority complex!

Let's give Lagos Electoral college of 1,000,000 votes!

FCT too 500,000k votes!

So that anyone who wins both automatically wins the election regardless of spread or total individual votes!

Nigeria is not good at copying the good and positive things from other countries, they're just good at copying the bad, the very bad and negative things from others.

HOW DOES THIS MUMU KNOW THAT THE US ELECTION WAS FREE AND FAIR?

Just because it is “white people”?

Slave mentality.

RIGHT NOW there are millions of Democrats calling for a RECOUNT of the votes after it was revealed that ELON MUSK had access to certain passwords to the election database.

Musk, a very heavy Trump backer worth over 200 BILLION DOLLARS, having such access is VERY DUBIOUS.

Meanwhile this unquestioning mumu is claiming from Nigeria that the election was “free and fair”.

You know NOTHING about what’s going on there so STFU.

Nigeria is a mockery to democracy. The only language our politicians will understand soon is violence and revolution, by that time it will be too late for them.

The recent actions of INEC calls for serious concerns. If an Electoral Umpire would collude with State actors to use prefilled result sheets (in Kogi) and issue cloned certified Polling Unit results containing different figures from what is in IRev(Edo).. who knows what it would do next..

It's like a referee in a wrestling match who holds and ties both hands of an opponent at his back.

It's worrisome.

Why can't we in Nigeria establish our benchmark? There's no reason we should rely on what America does. While I see the perspective, let's be clear: America isn't as infallible as some believe. Even the GOP/Republicans are pushing for all states to adopt Voter ID cards, which Democrats have been using to manipulate elections in the deep blue states. It's time for us to forge our path.

My annoyance wth all these Nigeria must learn singers is I bet anyone give all these one Ghana must go full of cash or appointment they will keep quiet and even do the worst.

Imagine Atiku advising after abracadabra h joined them to do against Gej and send him.packing.

Imagine obi advising after 300k accredited voters cards in Anambra produced 500k votes for him alone in Anambra and he never queried how come? and was smiling and happy thinking he is on the way to Aso Rock.

Liars and fake people.

Be transparent about the process is it too much to ask INEC for that?

Beam, broadcast, transmit the election process and the result live electronically before the entire public (both local and international). is it too much to ask for?

In one to two days elections where concluded in America Combined votes of close to 150,000,000!

But in Nigeria to count less than combined votes of 20m is a wahala. Nawa o. Nigeria no get shame again

Inec cannot learn anything again if after 25 years we are still conducting a charade in the name of elections.
They cannot learn because they are the ones that deliberately usurp the election process in cohorts with our criminal political class.
It's a waste of time. They even shamelessly went to observe the US elections.
