Two persons have lost their lives in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State over control of the local revenue of the Ughelli main market

Two communities, Iwhreko and Ekiugbo in the area are sharing the market

One of the deceased, Onome popularly called Oyibo was shot dead at the Ughelli main market while the other identified as Nathaniel died from bullet wounds at the Ughelli Central Hospital.

A source alleged that Oyibo was taking collections from petty traders at the market when he was accosted by yet-to-be-identified persons.

The source revealed that when the guys accosted Oyibo, traders waded into the matter and while the issue was being resolved, sounds of gunshots were heard.

“Initially we thought it was a knockout and as the sound was vibrating, all the traders in the market scampered for safety only to return and find the lifeless body of Oyibo just by the front of the former Eco Bank just after the Adagharagba junction.

“Moments later, we saw about three women and two men helping another victim, Nathaniel with bullet wounds from the market by Adagharagba Street and he was rushed to the hospital”.

“The other injured victim died moments ago from bullet wounds at the hospital and the matter is under investigation.” Security source revealed

When contacted, the Chairman of Ughelli North local government council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo said, “I learned that somebody was shot and I quickly informed the security agencies, the Area Commander, the Army formation and they have gone there to clear the area.

“We have not got a clear picture of who was shot and the cause of the shooting but by tomorrow when I get to the office, I will get a clearer picture, so I can respond.

“But for now we are ensuring that peace is restored so that the issue will not escalate, we have asked policemen to take over the place” he posited.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the development.

It was an incident in Ughelli that triggered EndSars too. They must have realized the 'revenue collectors' are mere rent seekers using their sweat to flex and so someone donated them voluntarily, some chrome objects.

Like EndSars, e go soon reach lagos - the capital of rent seeking.

Wait ,I don't get. Why do they always die at the hospital with just bullet wounds. Why always, i feel these nurses or quacks paradim him or herself as a doctor, quickly inject into them ,some sort of poison and they die suddenly moments later, hardly do we hear anyone survived from mere bullet wounds, right at a nigerian hospital. Come on...
our hospitals are all littered with quacks.....

I will assume you are not medically inclined

For your question, there are many factors to consider

1. The type of gun/bullet involved

2. The region of the body/organ [s] shot at/ affected

3. The range

4. The time in which the victim was brought to the hospital

5. The emergency response time of the hospital

And a host of others

Mind you; there is something called type 1, type 2 and type 3 delays

So, just blaming health workers is crude

Revenue collection the oil money for the youths, yet they don't use it to do anything meaningful. 10 years down the line you will still see the same person the same spot collecting curse money.

It is so sad to see how people can just take matters into their own hands, cause chaos and pick up arms to maim others.

Are there not locally constituted authorities that has the backing of the law to handle such matters?

While the perpetrators should be brought to book, the government at the local and state level need to be up tight, set clear boundaries and ensure compliance to mitigate against reoccurrence.
