IMF doesn't know the reform is only for the poor masses and citizens. Government isn't reforming itself and there is still looting. grin

Nigeria is facing serious challenges. Despite heavy taxation and substantial government revenue, it is evident that this administration has borrowed more than any other in the country’s history.

And the next government after Tinubu's 8 years will borrow more, Buhari did his, so the circle continues 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤗🤗🤗🤗

You are 💯 correct.Any reform you try to implement corruption will kill it.Is it supporting SME?where do the money get to?is it power? Contractors and government workers are sabotaging the whole process,is it govt support to the masses? that one is entering few individuals pocket.Purvhasing power of the masses is at all time low how will the reform work?

But can't the drivers say no and refuse giving those millitary and police people money?

Why always giving them money? Or is the company that manufactures those good and driver guilty of something we don't know?
SenecaTheYonger:
When food is coming from the north, the amount of police and army checkpoints you need to settle sometimes amounts to 1 million naira, with lowest being 700k (if you’re lucky)

Obviously all that will be added to the price of whatever food the trailer was carrying.

No economic policy can remedy that one. I guess IMF didn’t account for corruption when implementing policies.

Economics don’t work here. Nothing works here.

Honestly, working-class individuals who made good money between 2000 and 2015 but didn’t take the opportunity to relocate abroad back then only have themselves to blame. It was much easier to migrate during that time.

I thought many people are saying subsidy is not good. That it wrecks a country resources!
IfnobeGod20:
I have said this over and over again and I will repeat myself this morning. No IMF or world bank policies will ever work for underdeveloped countries. That aside, the policies of fuel subsidy removal and floating of naira will only get worst as the day roll in. This is not about pessimism or not been patriotic, that's just the nature of our country because we are fuel dependent nation and also foreign goods dependent, as we produce nearly nothing.
Developed nations are not stupid for subsidizing foods that they know they are commonly consumed by their citizens. Fuel is the driver of our economy, let no one deceive you. Whatever affects our fuel, affects virtually everything called goods and services.
All these deceits would give any result. Those hailers of the government should continue but as the saying always go, the ends justify the means.
Already there is a projection that more people will be dipped into poverty by 2025 by FOI. Without the investigation, even the blind knows we are heading towards doom days ahead.
My candid advise to the patriotic ones, tighten up your seatbelt and do all legal thing that you think can fetch you money.

Hmmmm...

You'd know the external forces working to hold this country down are not doing too much to achieve that, only need to have the wrong guys in office and all their wishes are met. If not so, how can you explain this?

These neo-liberal economies would tell our headless leaders what to do, because they have white skin, our leaders take everything hook, line and sinker - they'd implement, throw their people into poverty net and the same institutions come back to tell us how that policy is not working.

They told us this many years down the line when IBB and Olu Falae promoted SAP and forced it down our throats - they said it failed because it was not fully implemented(as Farooq Kperoggi recalled in one of his articles). I wonder which part of the SAP was not implemented.

As a Nigerian, I've had the foretaste of what Hell feels like, I want God to remember this face and save me a place in paradise.

It's high time we started arresting those good for nothing economists who come on air to preach the benefits of a policy and they turn out bad for our country. . Start with Arise Rotus and Rewane bismarck we are still waiting for the right value of the Naira. There should be a law that ban World Bank and IMF from Nigeria TV station

Someone is actively destroying the country and economy and he’s calling it much needed reforms.

It’s only in Nigeria that things have to go really bad before it gets better.

They ask the people to bear and make sacrifices but they (politicians) live large, yet we have some people that may or may not be benefiting anything from these politicians supporting them.
Will it even get better?

It's not really a bad new because 10years was projected by world Bank but now in 18 months. If all these reforms have been taken before the emergence of Boko haram and bandits, these wouldn't cause much food inflation because we are producing well then. But no one has the political will to reform Nigeria then. Politicians should lead by example by cutting Thier heavy spendings.

When IMF or world bank praises you, just go get your coffin for your grave is already dug. Let the world bank continue to cry jeremiad or ululate itself hoarse.

Without the two policies of subsidy removal and naira harmonization Nigeria would have become completely
insolvent if not extinct and obliterated from the world map

We unabashedly borrowed money to pay for subsidy and salaries. All earnings were spent on debt servicing not even a penny spared for debt repayment.

We could not meet our financial obligations to our foreign partners. Airlines shunned the nation and the few that flew billed us to our blood. Inflation galloped without respite.

Naira was freely printed to meet domestic needs. Maddening inflation followed in its wake.

We used fuel that was subsidized on borrowed money, we bought luxuries from naira that had been cushioned from borrowed dollars. Billionaires were churned out from round tripping as the nation continued to bleed from these self inflicted woiunds,

No nation can survive from this degree of fiscal indiscipline. No not one,

For once, as a nation we now honour our financial obligations, we are now building our external reserve, salaries are paid from within our purse, round tripping has tripped never to rise again, importation abased while exportation is on ascedency, fuel production has surged tremendously, smuggling has become less lucrative.

In no distant future the benefits of the fiscal displine will flow down the line and the much awaited milk and honey will flow to every household. Let no man lose heart, the reform, though hard will work wonder soonest.

Let IMF continue to rant, whoever listens to them does so at his own peril. I remain one of the firm believers in this great nation

I don't understand how production took last place there..

You subsidize to encourage production which in turn boost your revenue collection

Taxation comes when there's production and in flow of income

CodeTemplarr:
They are, and were right to do so. After taxation and subsidy removal, there is something called production which we have ignored since time immemorial.
