Lagos Youths Reject Owerri Coalition’s Endorsement Of Seyi Tinubu As Governor In 2027, Say President’s Son Free To Govern Osun, Imo

The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths has rejected the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, Lagos State governor.

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), an umbrella body of youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones, on Tuesday endorsed Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor in 2027.

In a statement jointly issued in Owerri on Tuesday by the President General of CONYL Comrade Goodluck Ibem, Secretary Comrade Junard Abubakar, Public Relations Officer, Comrade Iniobong Sampson and Publicity Secretary Comrade Adeyemo Adewale, the body said it arrived at the resolution following a recent enlarged meeting of its leaders.

According to the coalition, Seyi Tinubu is free to go to Osun State, where Tinubu reportedly hails from or Imo State, where CONYL issued its joint statement, to become the governor.

However, in a statement signed by Abdul Kareem Whyte for the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths on Wednesday, the group said there is no vacancy for non-indigenes in Lagos State.

It said, “Our attention has been drawn to the recent endorsement of Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor by a group known as Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) and the group is described as the umbrella body of all the youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

The said Coalition sat in Owerri, Imo State and publicly issued the statement on endorsement, while we know Mr Seyi Tinubu has his democratic rights as a Nigerian, we condemn the ill-fated endorsement and described it as anti-democracy and a deliberate move by some faceless individuals to deny indigenes of Lagos State right to govern themselves in 2027.

“It is no longer news that since 1999, no true blood indigenes of Lagos State have taken over the mantle of leadership in the State (except one), the marginalization which underscores the essence of democracy and an outright denial of the indigenes of Lagos State the right to govern themselves.

We know as a fact that there will soon be vacancy in Osun State where Mr Seyi Tinubu can best exercise his democratic rights unhindered. And if the people of Owerri in Imo are also interested in benefiting from the experience Mr Seyi Tinubu has acquired in recent times, they can push him to succeed Governor Uzodinma.

As for us there is no vacancy for non-indigenes in Lagos State in 2027. The marginalization is too much and the marginalization has led to the underdevelopment in the state.

“It’s unbelievable that since 1999, our hinterlands are not developed, no good roads, Lagos State leaving on debts and our traditional system distorted by successive governments.

“We are also aware of the moves by some non-indigenes to penetrate our traditional rulers in getting endorsements and ratifications from them.

“Recently, one of the aspirants suddenly traced his ancestry to Ojo Local Government after spending more than a decade in power without identifying with the Awori People of Ojo in Lagos State.

“We are hereby calling on the Oba of Lagos to beware of persons who will soon seek indigeneship of Lagos State because of 2027.”

According to the group, it is ready to “fight dirty if the Oba of Lagos allows such anti Lagos Indigenes move”.

“We advise the leadership of CONYL to channel their energies towards advocating for good governance and policies that will benefit the youth constituency rather than instigating political crises in Lagos State,” it added.

Poverty has made us so mad in this horrible entity. Chai!

Every Nigerian MUST take time and read this short article: Possible Strategies Tinubu Is Using To Pocket Nigeria As He Did Lagos or we'll soon have ourselves to blame.

Almost everything in that article is happening one after the other - like the MC Oluomo NURTW saga, this attempt to install his family and friends in key positions and more. If we fail to listen now, we'll surely regret it later on. Nigerians need to get up instead of complaining lazily everyday.

We saw the names of fulanis or hausas and IGBOS and other tribes there, let not this be the usual Igbo trolling, BTW why is it not in Lagos or Abuja or from port hacourt there these faceless people say to choose their Lagos governor, this is not the type of things we want it's headquarters in Igbo land.
We want development and not headquarters of faceless whatever. The right place to declare the son of tinubu a governor of Lagos state should be in Lagos state

I am of the opinion that anyone that rules a place must be

1. Personally invested in the state by reason of time.
2. Understand the culture of the place and not seek to undermine, blend, or substitute another culture for some one Nigeria nonse*se. One Nigeria is a consequence of the union between federating states, it is not the originating factor. Loyalty to state and region is not at odds with one Nigeria. No one would care who scored the winning goal for Nigeria in a world cup final!

So, the governorship of Lagos state is the steward of its economy AND it's culture. Anyone that would be governor in any statemust meet this criteria. It is not one rule for Lagos and one rule for other states.

This idea of indigeneship on the basis of slave returnee is seriously flawed. It is an elitist mindset that Lagos has broken free of and should not return to. Let me explain.

While Lagos was a slave port. It represented a very tiny portion of slave "exports" Most of these slaves were captured upcountry in.places now known as Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, and Ogun because these was where the tribal wars were taking place eg the Kiriji war within the Yoruba confederation. These captured slaves RETURNED to Lagos and claimed lagos as their state by reason of long habitation( nothing wrong with this) however many of these people brought a western or south America culture which was fused on local culture - eg Lagos carnival which is basically
Brazilian. These were ways they reminded the
homeland and it became part of their culture.

The colonial masters loved working with these people
because they went to church, spoke good English, raced horses and lived out western culture which was "civilized" and not "bush" like the others.

They promoted these people and kickstarted the
educated meritocracy. They ignored educated people like Funmi Ransome Kuti, leaders of the Market women's strike, the railworkers strike, the miner leaders at Ivie vally in the East and the leaders of the Aba wonens riots as rabble trousers, communists and
undesirable elements. Some of the national heroes
we have today are there simply because they were "righteously" westernized and no longer truly represented of the deep interests of indigenes including the right to develop and grow on the pathway of their culture instead of burning these boats in favour of western civilization.
There are exceptions such as J. Randle snr who fought
for the rights of lagosians until they fell into hand of
the more savvy one Nigeria politicians and the military.

So the idea of lagos indigeneship is murky which is
why the 2 tests are important. A lagos governor
cannot have dual state hood. He/she must be
committed to the economy and culture of Lagos over
every personal antecedent and every historical state of orign from their family history. He or she is not there to represent the values and culture of non lagosians under the guise of "one Nigeria". Lagos cannot be ruled by people that will not defend its interests over their family antecedents
and the voting public must be educated or re-
educated to understand the need for a 100%
commitment to the state; it's history, economy and culture. Iam unashamedly from Ekiti by the way, and though my father served in the Federal Govt from 1962-79 we never claimed Lagos indigeneship. We love Lagos but we cannot abrogate a history that we have traced back to 1815 in the region now known as Ekiti even though we have also have Nupe element by reason of ancestor marriage. To do so would alter our strengths and eventually collapse our history. Rewriting history is dangerous - it has to be 100% or as close as. Even the parts we may not like, because they are dark or unpleasant will eventually over time become important and valid lessons and warnings for future generations.

Long road for those who read.

So yoruba Ronu is about to flog Seyi tinubu with the same cane they used on GRV😂😂💔💔

It's going to be an interesting one, Seyi is married to an igbo woman, if he becomes the governor of Lagos, (his father built it so he has right to become it's governor, now or later) the igbos won, if he's axed like GRV igbos won still 😂😂😂😂

Yoruba ronu are between the devils hot asss and the deep blue sea, we will be there.

Some of you in my mention crying and cursing your grandfather's that she's not igbo, for your information, listen to Seyi himself.

We move

Are they trying to do Ronu for Seyi Tinubu? Is it because Seyi will soon become "Shinedu"?

So 2 "Shinedu" will soon contest for Lagos seat in 2027.
One in LP and another in APC. This shows the futility of Ronus tribalism camouflaged as ethnic nationalism

The endorsement was illogical from the onset.

Seyi Tinubu should contest for his father's Lagos state governorship position if he is not interested in contesting in his father's region.

The Lagos youths are not interested, simple.

Reasonable people should respect the decision of the Lagos youths.

The issue of imposition is what we are trying to avoid hence the rejection of the endorsement

This is not smart!

Your family history even in Ekiti as you said dated back to yesterday's 19th century (1815)... Now you want to question people who's history in Lagos dated back to the 15th century (you can look up history of slave trade in Lagos or history of Lagos people)...

Everyone has history in this life... Nobody germinated like Maize from the soil... Thinking your ancestors migration history from anywhere they come from to Ekiti be ok while that of Lagos indigenes should be questioned itself is not smart...

Let's always think before we talk!

He is qualified to run for office in Lagos. The laws are there for all to see.

However, the youths are possibly pained because of the current situation in the country.

Having him as governor won't be bad though; he is young, energetic, intelligent, ran successful companies, etc. It would be nice to see how Seyi and Gbadebo compare; Seyi would probably give him a run for his money. Fingers crossed. 2027 is less than 3 years away.
