That is a crude way of putting it, but Oshiomole is right. To industrialise, Nigeria needs more technical work force.

However, the socio-economic conditions and value system in nigeria does not give proper dignity and reward to such jobs, except on few occasions.

Their children are schooling in one of the best university in the world but the children of the poor should go and learn Plumber so that they will continue to rule them

For ur mind na bricklayer go bring about the innovation
1 person can be the brain behind the innovation, but it takes many skilled artisans and technicians to turn that innovation into commercial success. In otherwords, in any successful industrial setting, skilled hands (artisans, craftsmen, technocians etc) are needed more than engineers.

Been reading through this thread and it's bizarre how almost everyone missed this point.

False. Great civilizations are a consequence of technological innovations in solving basic human problems, controlling the environment or in warfare.
Which of your monophonic Universities or national institution's are much concentrated on technological innovations practically in the country at the moment?

They are needed but to really industrialize Nigeria, the country needs to invest heavily in Science & Technology. In this modern age, innovation is the new oil & gold. STEMS (Science, IT & Engineering) is crucial for any serious country to be competitive. The issue is that Nigerian politicians know this but would never do it but an innovative workforce is a threat to their corrupt rule.

That is because Nigeria has a poor work value system. But that doesn't the away the fact that you need people with technical skills.

Yes...

To industrialise a nation, technical skills are far more needed than paper degrees of engineers and project managers. Unfortunately in Nigeria, even highly skilled artisans are paid peanuts and regarded as lower humans, so no one wants to learn those skills.
Ignorance pro max
So it's bricklaying that will produce semiconductors and industrial machinery?

I'm amazed at the iq of Nigerians really

Then you need formal training and apprenticeship programs that does not feel like slavery so that even graduates can learn the skill and create jobs instead of looking for jobs.

Wao, Oshiomole has descended to an all time low slowpoke. Talking of skills, he failed to realize that tech skills are there to acquire, the only thing a nigerian politician understand as skills for their constituent, not their children, are iron-bending, brick laying, wheel barrowing, local Tailoring, Grinding machine, Okada riding etc

Oga nigeria doesn't lack artisans

How much is artisan paid

Even artisans no see work do, they are now doing Okada, pos, yahoo, trading, farming etc

U dey mind them, without cutting corners. How many artisan is living in the medium class. After graduating n no job, I learnt painting. Due to my uprightness, I hardly made profit. The only thing keeping me going is the positive remarks from client. U start a project, due to lack of planning. They keep calling u because today they discover one pipe is licking, tomorrow the want to trace a light. So everyday they break the wall. U will need to keep plaster and painting till u exhaust all your money on site. If better policy is put in place, and good infrastructure everyone is OK. Are Nigerian trooping out of naija are going there because of white collar job or coz of better pay n good rewarding system.

If labour in Nigeria is working and effective. Its not everyone that love a govt job.

I beg to differ. To truly industrialize Nigeria, we need huge investments, power sector reforms and whole lots of favourable laws and policies. For example, the dangote refinery has been recruiting graduate engineers for years now and recently employed over 200 graduate trainees. Imagine what 20 of such investments will absorb. The skills graduates possess are more valuable in such industries as there are opportunities for research and development.
Of course, more Artisans Will even be needed in the construction and operating stage as well.

Do you think it is the graduates that dangote employed that were doing the welding and fabrications?

Where they the ones operating the machinery or driving the trucks?

In the electricity sector you mentioned, do you think those doing the major field work are all graduates?

Do you even know what blue collar jobs are?
