Kano Assembly Rejects Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills by NLCreator666: 10:49pm On Dec 02
The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday rejected the Tax Reform bills currently under consideration at the National Assembly.

At a plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Isma’il Falgore, the lawmakers kicked against the bills after extensive deliberation.

The Majority Leader, Lawan Husseini (ANPP-Dala) introduced a motion of ‘urgent public importance,’ emphasising the need for northern lawmakers and the Conference of Speakers to prevent the passage of the bills.

Mr Husseini argued that if passed into law, the bills would not benefit the Northern States.

He condemned the Senate’s decision to approve the bills, saying, “We view it as a deliberate effort to sabotage the economy, increase hardship and further impoverishing the region.”

Mr Husseini expressed concern over the proposed VAT allocation system, noting that states like Lagos, where major corporations such as Nigerian banks, telecommunications companies, and multinational companies were headquartered, would receive the largest share of the VAT.

“Lagos and its environs would account for 80 percent of the VAT collected in Nigeria, leaving northern states with a minimal share,” he said.

He warned that if allowed to scale through, the bill would further weaken northern states, potentially rendering some unable to pay salaries and worsening poverty and hardship.

Supporting the motion, Salisu Mohammed (APC-Doguwa) urged the upper legislative house to focus on more pressing national issues, such as attention insecurity and unemployment, instead of rushing the tax reform bills through the legislative process.

Similarly, Murtala Kadage (ANPP-Garko) called for unity among lawmakers to prevent the bills from passing, for the benefit of the region.

The house called on northern members of the Senate and House of Representatives, along with the Conference of Speakers, to take a swift and decisive action to block the passage of the bills.

So you just rush to comment. I couldn't see the difference between you and the Aboki in Kano regurgitating falsehoods.
I am sure that you people do not have a single idea of what you are saying.
Exactly what you and your Kano brothers are saying is what the contentious section of the bill is correcting. The sharing of vat would no longer be based on where the headquarters of the companies are but where the goods and services are generated or consumed. Vat on your bank charges would no longer be recorded to have all being made in Lagos, but will be recorded to have emanated from whichever state the customer is based.
So what's the fuse about.

Some of you are mentally lazy together with many political office holders. I can see that from the rubbish and misinformation you spewed about the tax reform bills. Many people even from the opposition parties are coming out to support the bills after having read what is contained there in. Am very happy for president Tinubu because he cannot be intimidated by falsehood peddlers in the North.
Here is what seriake Dickson, a member of opposition party said about the tax reform bills: Mr Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, stated this while addressing journalists at the National Assembly on Monday.
“Forget about uproar, there will be no uproar. Public hearing is an opportunity for people to present their matters, and nobody is going to be intimidated by uproar,” the senator said.

The four tax reform bills passed second reading at the Senate on Thursday. They were referred to the Senate Committee on Finance chaired by Niger East Senator, Sani Musa, for further legislative action, including holding a public hearing.
In his submission, Mr Dickson, a PDP senator, said he supported the bills’ provisions because they are in the country’s interest.

He argued that if the National Assembly could pass the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) prescribing three per cent statutory for host communities despite several criticisms from the people of Niger Delta region, that of the tax reform bills won’t be an exception.

“The PIA was passed. We wanted 10 per cent, which was what Yar’adua proposed. They (federal lawmakers) reduced it to three per cent. Heaven did not fall. This tax reform bills will pass and heavens will not fall,” he said.
VAT sharing formula
Mr Dickson said he is supporting the tax reform bills essentially because of the sharing formula of Value-Added Tax which prescribed that every consumption within the state will be paid to the state.

“The tax bill is a law like every other law and it has to go through the normal legislative process. Right now, taxes from Bayelsa State are paid to Lagos State and I don’t want that to continue. When there is consumption of any goods or services from any state it should be calculated and paid to that state.

“Now there is an opportunity to review the tax laws, to correct the anomalies and that’s why I’m in support,” he added
The senator urged those opposing the bills to present their positions during the public hearing.

“I know there are states that are feeling that when they apply the new sharing formula, they will earn less. It is for them to raise those issues and bring the statistics. I don’t go by sentiments. I go by what is right and in the national interest.”

While the bills have passed a second reading in the Senate and been sent to the finance committee, the House of Representatives is expected to commence legislative work on them on Tuesday.
Friga13 , you can continue to peddle misinformation and falsehood. We can see your fear. All what the tax reform bills is saying is that make your region conducive for investment. You can't continue breaking beer parlour shops and burning down betting shops in your region and you think you can partake in sharing formula coming from alcoholic drinks and betting companies.

Mr. Man be objective in your analysis of issues. The salient point worth asking should be, what are the derivation and attribution mechanism as it's relate to the tax reform?
Furthermore, what is the state of institution mechanism for robust data gathering for fiscaliization of the derivation and attribution.

One of Nigeria's major problems is illiteracy, and the other is its large population, both of which create an ideal environment for corruption to thrive.

Simply look in the mirror and consider the disparity between high-population areas that generate extremely low VAT revenue while destroying alcohol and betting sites, which they call haram, and low-population areas that generate high revenue...yet the low-revenue areas that also destroy many things receive a large portion. And then for almost over 3 decades nothing to show for the high vat they have been collecting.

People in oil areas have been complaining how they are cheated. We all collect revenue from Ijaw and we don't clean their river. If they increase their income and they clean their river so they can start fishing again which is their main occupation before oil was found there (Ken Saro Wiwa died for the cause), is it bad? Is it bad to give more to places where vat is generated more? Where is your head?

So you think Ohaneze doesn't consult well to weigh issues before they react. Or do you think Arewa too? While Arewa is driving by selfishness and laziness, ohaneze despite opposing Tinubu can see how this man has got the balls to go against the north. What your Jonathan, Obasanjo, or any Southern man dare not try. We may hate Tinubu, but he has got the balls. Take it or leave it. This is the truth.

One of Nigeria's major problems is illiteracy, and the other is its large population, both of which create an ideal environment for corruption to thrive. The north wishes to remain the same parasites that they have always been. While Ohaneze sees a light at the end of the tunnel that will lead them out of slavery. "Baboon dey work, Monkey dey chop".

This is just VAT. Have you considered the income tax, which benefits the majority of Nigerians with low or average incomes who will either not pay or pay a small amount? While the rich pay more to compensate for what the poor do not pay? Is this not a win for you? I am sure you aren't a rich person. Or is your income around 100million a year?

What is wrong with you? Go to school...you will say schooling is a scam. Look at you? Using your own hand to kill yourself. Oloyede explained everything clearly, but you lack the ability to understand it. And here you are still shouting because you despise Tinubu. Many of us dislike him, but we are not stupid enough to oppose this tax because we understand that it is the first step toward the resource control we have been requesting.

Those norther senators aren't ready to work in their states. For example, Zulum is banking on his high pay. And they always cheat. They ask Nigeriens to filled up their place cos of these issues.

Oga, we should now implement the American College voting system. We will be fair and equal once we have implemented resource control, passed these tax bills, and established a similar electoral system to the US college.

Ask someone to explain these bills to you in your native language because you have demonstrated a low IQ. May you not kill yourself and later realise how stupid you are for hating Tinubu. We can now bridge the gap between rich and poor, but unfortunately, you, the poor, are being used by the rich to prevent your liberation. You will not realize how stupid you are right now until your eyes clear.

What a pity? Go to school you will say it's a scam. And here you are displaying your illiteracy at its peak. What a pity!

What particular aspect of the tax bill are you opposed to?

Why don't you spell out the clauses and propose modifications?

Have you even studied the bill? Or you're just echoing what other ignorant people are echoing?

Also, if you aren't generating revenue, do you think you have a right to collect the lion share of revenues generated?

All i have been hearing is that it will make the north poor and I'm asking how exactly? How will it make you poor?

Do you believe in double taxation? Shouldn't taxes be synchronized in the country so businesses can thrive?

What exactly are you saying O ye Arewa people?
