What else do you expect from A 12AH capacity battery. Even average power banks are 30AH and above.

It powers the bungalow
We plug laptop, fan, tv, for upto 3 days nonstop.

Let me break it down for you
1. Your One Panel 18V 30W:
Means that if the efficiency is 100%, as long as the sun is up, the maximum load it can carry is 30W between 9am and 5pm (8 Hours)
If there is no NEPA (Mains Electricity), it means you can use 60W of power for 4 Hours OR 120W for 2 Hours
2. Your battery capacity of12V 12AH Lead-acid battery
Mean that at full capacity, it can store at 100% efficiency 144W of Energy
it means that at best you can use up to 144W of Energy for 1 Hour OR 72W of Energy for 2Hours
3. Your Inverter of 220V 150W.
Mean that at 100% Efficiency, you cannot plug loads up to 150W without blowing up the inverter. This is the maximum power you can draw from it if your battery capacity will allow it.

Now, you are driving it with a load of 95W OX fan
Laptop at 65W

Let me shock you that the efficiencies of solar panel that is properly optimised is less that 50% from the rating
Your Battery can have 80% Efficiency only when brand new, as you use it (especially when overloading it) the efficiency can drop to 40%

So, don't use your inverter for your fan or laptop, restrict it to giving you lights at night.
Don't even bother augmenting with extra panels or batteries because it will still waste your money




Recommendation: Even though costly
1. Two Deep cycle Batteries of at least 200AH capacity
2. Three to Four Solar panels
3. Charge controllers rated for the four panels with a power not less that 1200W
4. Inverter (Sine Wave) of at least 1500W (Much higher is better)

Less is a waste of investment

My Small Advice!

Thank you for the analysis.

I bought it solely for laptop and phone charging. If I knew this is how it would turn out, I wouldnā€™t have bought anything at all as Iā€™m on a tight budget.

Now, I have to augment this one as Iā€™m currently not financially buoyant.
How can I enhance this to allow me charge my laptop? What capacity of external battery should I get? How about the solar panel?

Your battery capacity is a 144WH (12v Ɨ 12AH) which means it can only use 144W of energy for 1Hour

Your inverter capacity is 150W

Now back to your Load
Your Fan is a 65W
Your laptop is 95
Total is 160W. This is more than the inverter capacity(150W). That is an overkill. U are lucky your inverter no blow.

Now comparing your battery (144WH) to your total loads (160W)
This is why your back up time does not last up to an hour

Let's do the maths
144WH/160W gives us 0.9Hours = 54mins. This is the best u can get from your battery

NOTE and ADVICE
Don't connect a load more than Inverter capacity

220k got me one 200w solar panel, 3A charge controller, one 100Ah battery, and one 1,500w inverter last month. I rarely use grid. And it's serving me well day in day out. I live alone though so my loads are 1 laptop, two 5w bulbs, phones, subwoofer, 16in rechargeable fans, 32in LED TV and fridge(when voltage is between 13.6V-14.6V in the day)
guy e be like say u show the installer AK 47 for am to do all these things for u for 220k or the installer is ur younger sibling

Oga u for just buy power bank na..some power bank have a higher power rating..this rubbish u bought with 200k for give u like 10 power bank..imaging if u charge all 10 of them to full capacity..for one month u nor go need nepa to charge phone

I didnā€™t connect both fan and laptop at the same time.

With laptop(65W) alone, It lasts only 40 minutes which should be at least 2hrs by calculations.

If Iā€™m to buy external battery, to last me at least 3 hours, Iā€™ll need 200WH. But how many (V) and (AH)?
Also, will the solar panel have the capacity to charge it or I will have to upgrade?

So I bought a Cafini inverter that can be charged with solar panels and also AC power. It has radio, led light and 12V 5W bulbs(4 bulbs)
The panel is 18V 30W(1 panel).
The inverter output is 220V 150W.
The battery capacity is 12V 12AH Lead-acid battery.

I started using it by plugging my laptop(65W) to it. Within 40 minutes, it ran down from 100 to 0.

You don't have an inverter yet. Please get more money and do a serious thing. Inverter is serious business and cost millions.
I unplugged the laptop and plugged my power bank to it. I also plugged one of its bulbs to it. It finally died after a little over 2hrs of it being on 0.

I charged it with AC power and plugged my OX fan(95W) to it alone. The fan was struggling on level 1 and was making sound, I had to disconnect it.

The seller said thatā€™s the capacity of the battery and it is normal. If I wanā€™t it to last a longer duration, I should buy a external battery of a higher capacity.

Please with what I observed, is the draining normal? The battery percentage was draining by just switching on the inverter and not plugging anything to it.

My Small Advice!

I didn't want to tell him the truth. This is a toy inverter like a toy car can't carry anything to anywhere. I would advise minimum of 3kva for anyone that wants an inverter for home with at least two big batteries. For shop or office, minimum of one big battery to be used from 10am to 4pm is okay for bulb, fan preferably standing fan and charging of phones, POS etc.

Where I for see AK 47 apart from BloodStrike? If him be my mama pikin, I for install more panels for free. But my load dey small and I no need grid to charge my battery. I only just need the Kano sun & panel to charge my battery. This solar installation depends on load. I know guys that spent 2m+ just to power TV, fan & bulbs. No be so.

Solar system is just like a owning a car. If you don't have the money to do it properly, don't waste your little savings on any cheap inverter.
Solar systems are very inefficient, you need to spend big to enjoy any benefits. Even with a 5kva system at home, i still ration power between my basic appliances.
Forget what marketers will tell you, it's all a strategy to make sales.

I use solar panels and inverter without electricity for over a month. You can't on what you put on in the day overnight. It would drain the batteries. So put off appliances latest 4, 5, 6pm and use bulbs and rechargeable standing fan overnight.

There is 20k Chinese inverter that can be connected to panel without connection to grid. With his load, he doesn't need hybrid inverter if he has plenty sunlight.

Even those with full solar installation of 3kva with 4 tubular batteries and serval solar panels do not connect OX fan to it cheesy

You really understand the trick. When my charge controller shows me 13.6-14.4V, I power fridge, ceiling fan etc cos I'm not using battery but rather panel. By 5pm, sun comes down and my charge controller shows like 13.0V. I switch off fridge and use rechargeable fan and 5w bulb with my phone. I rarely watch TV. 1 month+ I have forgotten there used to be NEPA (now disco)
