Yeah, it is failing just as skull mining is growing in the West.
No drug trafficking is thriving in ala Igbo. The population of Ndigbo in foreign prisons for drugs trafficking are more than some countries population.

The Igbo apprenticeship system has so far birthed lots of successful businesses and people in the southeastern region. It is not easy.

The Igbo apprenticeship system is a form of modern day SLAVERY that has frustrated many Igbo youths and rendered them useless and hopeless!

Those still advocating for that rubbish simply don't want to tell the truth or are just totally ignorant of the evils in that system.

People should go ahead and employ paid staff to run their businesses instead of enslaving more unsuspecting Igbo youths. I'll rather encourage our youths to learn artisanship skills even if it means paying someone to train them and never engage in any slavish service to any master!

This issue should be addressed in 2 ways
Majority of the oga boss wish to settle their boys but there are boys that have stolen oga dry and they are still expecting settlement.
I know one apprentice that used to steal his oga's money and lavish it on small girls. One day, I called him and asked him whether he is oga on his own, but he said no. I ask how he is getting all the money he is spending, and he said to make personal from sales and I asked why not keeping the and he said his oga must not know that he is making money for himself.

The boy was settled at the end but that oga's business suffered lack of accountability and the oga is down financially now

It is funny using few experiences to cancel and blacklist what has stayed for more than a century. This Igbo apprenticeship that built the Igbo race after the war when they had nothing? Harvard university is studying it and you in Nigeria without holistic view have judged it to be bad.

The problem is that the igbo elites, leaders & intellectuals, refused to help modernize the old system. If igbo leaders like ohaneze were not self-serving cunts, they could have set-up an investment or venture capital firm that would work around this. E.g deductible like 20k monthly from the gas domiciled account compounded for 8-10 years will be enough to settle the apprentice without his boss breaking the bank.

I don't understand why everything has to be tribal...
Someone labeled the post Yoruba hate... We need a change of orientation as a nation. The victims are not Yoruba, but people from the east, it doesn't mean Yoruba or any other tribe don't have their challenges...

With proper regulations apprentice rights and investments can be protected...
Apprenticeship is actually everywhere, mechanics, carpenters, Taylors, etc. but they need proper regulations.

You can't just waste 7 years with nothing to show for it...

The system is very rubbish and needs to be scrapped off that is why we have many rich people that are illiterate and made to sit at home Monday shouting imaginary Biafra or at most regulated that only graduate can participate in that. Biafra issue real exposes Igbos as empty with no brain!

A system that has produced more billionaires than any university graduates in the world. A system that one is doing both the practical and theory at the same time and is producing good results. A system that has made an area that was destroyed during the civil war to be more developed than other parts of Nigeria.

You need to make have your brain to be reexamine for making such a useless comment above.

The Originator of this post is talking nonsense. The apprenticeship system is still working very fine and raising tons of Igbo billionaires.

This is just a hatchet job by the Usual Of..manu people to discredit anything that favours Ndigbo. Seeing how lazy and unsuccessful the average Yoruba youth has become. I have encouraged upto 5 youths to embark on apprenticeship and so far, they are doing wonderfully well with their various masters in their various trade.
You are a local gala hawker and this is the reason why you don't know that those Yoruba youths are way ahead of Igbo youths in business.
Not only in Nigeria but also abroad.
Yorubas(Igbomina) have been practicing this apprenticeship system before Igbos know anything about business. They still do till date. They dominate the building materials market in Nigeria.
Igbos are babies to Yorubas in business.
Verifiable examples abound all over.
Know this and know peace.

This fiction is in the mind of a Ronu agent.

The system still works,it would be stronger with legislations. There is no amount of articles that would reduce the motivation behind the apprenticeship model.

Grace follows those who are diligent not those who seek skull mining and other organ harvesting as an excuse to be lazy....

Atleast the skull mining, tout grooming and Propaganda training institute in the south West is growing astronomically.

Yoruba youths litter everywhere 'jobless and foolish' doing nothing but being pickpockets and armed robbers after shouting mandate foolishly.

The Yoruba system is far better. It gives both the apprentice and the master some level of privacy and respect.

Learn mechanic, after 3 years bring your parent to come and do graduation. If your parent want to invite the whole community that is their business. After the three years, you look for a workshop and start working.

So he can decide to go back to school and as well do other things. How can one serve a master for 9-12 years and after that the master will still bring him story.

Which one be if you like invite the whole community. What I listed is what the oga is asking for, If you wan invite your community nah your wahala be that. There are many people I know that benefited from the boy boy system. Before you see 1 oga that failed to uphold his promise you'd have seen 9 that furnished their boy.
