I Have Nothing In Common With 'Boko Haram' Northern Nigeria – UK Party Leader, Kemi Badenoch Replies Vice-President [i]

Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the United Kingdom's Conservative Party, has stated that she identifies more with her Yoruba heritage than with Nigeria as a whole.

In an interview with The Spectator, Badenoch expressed that she feels little connection to northern Nigeria, which she described as a "haven for Islamism and Boko Haram."

“I find it interesting that everybody defines me as being Nigerian. I identify less with the country than with the specific ethnicity (Yoruba),” she remarked.

“I have nothing in common with the people from the north of the country, the Boko Haram where Islamism is,” she added.

Her comments have drawn significant backlash from many Nigerians, including high-profile figures.

Among her critics is Nigeria’s vice-president, Kashim Shettima, who recently told Badenoch she could change her name if she wished to disassociate from Nigeria, calling it the “greatest black nation on earth.”

Despite the criticism, Badenoch has doubled down on her stance, asserting that her true identity lies in her Yoruba roots.

She added, "Somebody once told me when I was very young that my surname was a name for people who were warriors. They protected the crown, and that’s what I see myself as doing.”

She further emphasised, “I am here to protect and I will die protecting this country because I know what’s out there.”

Meanwhile, Saharareporters earlier reported that Vice President, Kashim Shettima, accused Kemi of disparaging her country of origin, Nigeria.

He had made the statement on Monday during the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue at the State House in Abuja.

Shettima said, “Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the British Labour or Conservative Party. We are proud of her in spite of her efforts at denigrating her nation of origin.”

He further added, “She is entitled to her own opinions; she has even every right to remove the Kemi from her name but that does not underscore the fact that the greatest black nation on earth is the nation called Nigeria.”

The Vice President highlighted Nigeria’s significance on the world stage, stating, “One out of every three, four black men is a Nigerian and by 2050, Nigeria will support the United States, and will be the third most populous nation on earth.”

This will be used against her someday, I think she's fooling herself by saying she's more of a Yoruba than being a Nigerian, she will forever be seen as a UK citizen of Nigerian descent

Disrespectful as how?
Isn't that the truth?

You think she'll come back to contest election so that you'll vote an illiterate Muslim over her?

Is Northern Nigeria not the head quarters of Boko Haram and other Islamic terrorist?

Or is the truth too painful to hear?

I have deliberately restrained myself from commenting on this lady’s unguarded statements but at this point I am beginning to wonder if she is in alignment or seeking for validation from ipob because she sounds really stupid and un British.

I will be very surprised if the conservatives don’t throw her out of office before any major or general election.

These silly talks will not make her the prime minister of Great Britain.

Like it or not, north is already infested with all sorts of terroristic acts which is against what humanity stands for.

She was right, even the northern Muslims aren't proud of their lands.

Yarimo and Co,can never be proud of their states of origin like we do in the southern region.

Why won't she be proud of her ethnicity?

How is that your business?

What's the difference between what she said and how Buhari and Tinubu treated and are treating Eastern Nigeria?

Does Tinubu believe in Nigeria from his actions or just his Yoruba ethnicity? Ronu and Emikolan mean what exactly.

At least she can't be kidnapped by Nigeria and returned to the shit hole to face trumped up charges

This one expected anyone who originates from the failed British colonial contraption called Nigeria, to sing the praises of a non existent unity, and lie that Nigeria is heaven on earth

I can see the disappointment that Kemi Badenoch did not tow that line. She can't, she is opposition leader in a country with far higher standards than that

I can understand not wanting to associate with all the vices in Nigeria, and what she said is the truth. Yorubas have very little in common with Northerners. I mean, Yorubas are much more tolerant of others than the Northerners.

But for a person of her standing, that was a careless statement to make. If she, as a black person, is going that far all in an attempt to distance herself from Nigeria and warm herself into the embrace of the Whites in Britain, then you've got to wonder what they now think of her.

Personally, if I were in a relationship with you and you denigrate your own people right in front of me, I immediately see you as being a self-serving individual capable denigrating me tomorrow.

My opinion too. Not many of us have much in common with the North and Boko Haram. We can say so here because we are not highly visible and exposed political figures as she is.

Omo, This lady is intelligent. She is a bible student. If you get what I mean.

In the Bible After Apostle Paul has bean arrested and the synagogue crowd threatening to beat him to a stupor, Apostle Paul quickly shouted, "I am a Jew." The Jewish community in the crowd quickly rallied to protect him.
In the same vein, Kemi Badenoch quickly appealed to the conscience of Yoruba people in Nigeria, ensuring that she would not be alone in this matter.

As a proud Ondo and Yoruba man, I declare that everything said by Kemi Badenoch is correct and true.

I will advise the northerners to find lasting solution to the issue of Boko Haram. If they have done this for a long time, Kemi would rub their region with such name.

If Yoruba did not prepare the moronic dish called "One Nigeria", Kemi would not sweat to explain the difference between Yoruba ethnicity and zoo-like country such as Nigeria.

Brilliant. I made a similar comment on another thread. Rather than Shetimma joining issues with Kemi, him and others should work hard to turn around the currently deserved image of the North as an enclave of illiteracy, leadership misrule , deprivation, ineptitude, poverty, disease proliferation, terrorism banditry, kidnapping, lawlessness and general backwardness.

Those who argue blindly when criticised truthfully are not ready to work for change by embracing and positively using constructive criticism. It should not have come from Kemi but the truth is that the terrorism Boko Haram, Lakurawa, ISWAP etal represent is now sadly symbolic of the whole of Nigeria and not the North alone.
