I attended a Federal Government College for secondary education. Like every other thing run by government, the Federal secondary school system has been severely run down by corruption, inefficiency and all the other things that come with government in any country.

Federal education bureaucracy is wasteful and counterproductive everywhere but especially in countries like Nigeria. Federal University graduates in Nigeria aren't too bright either, they're vastly ignorant. That Nigeria is the Poverty Capital of the World is enough proof. The standards have deteriorated and it's all part of the effect of Federal subsidies.

Who knows how many federal female university grads in Nigeria paid for their admission with sexual intercourse? Even in the great Unilag....there's video evidence on the internet that makes it clear it's at least a significant percentage. It's the same at National Government Universities all over Black Africa.

In contrast there's not a single case or complaint of private university students paying any kind of bribe to get admission. Not one, let someone show a story or cite a source and prove the statement is wrong.

As for the USA, the student loan crisis is enough reason to dismantle Federal Dept of Education. angry

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Haaaa.... this is sad and very wrong generalization. Please slow down your roll.

While there are few bad eggs who paid or slept with lecturers to to earn their degrees, far so many more worked hard (many of them with hunger and many sleepless nights) to earned their degrees. You are being unfair to many of these people with your post.

Reason why many of these graduates tops their class when doing post graduates abroad.

The UNILAG you badly mouthed, In 2024, was ranked in the top 8.5% of universities in the world by the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR).

Actually, those who worked hard are less than those who cheated. In a country where cheating is encouraged at the water level, what do you expect at the university level?

I know a friend that did computer science unilag but she does not know what an IDE is. She is not even a computer literate. When I met her and we were talking. As she was about to go for service. I asked what she studied and she said computer science. I was excited, but sadly, I wondered how she did it. To graduate with a 2:1 and not know anything about computers.

Nigeria is different from the US, The FG schools are better funded than the state schools so the best students go to FG run schools back then
So the best of the Nigerian society who didnt travel abroad all went to Federal schools

Nowadays the tide has turned and the private schools are better. If you have money and are to send your kids to school in Nigeria today, probably a private school will be preferred over a FGC or a Federal University

Aside Covenant University and maybe Landmark University, many Federal Universities including your alma mater (Great Ife) are rated above all the rest private Universities.

Pre uni, privates schools are better.

I don't know what world you live in when it comes to visa to America .
If you already have a passport that has other overseas entries and exits, this sorta assures visa office that you will come go back home.
I've got relatives years ago who dressed America style going for visa interviews to study for a locally available degree . One look and fake tweng, visa denied.
If you were the only source of information, anyone would think obtaining a visa is as hard as a PhD.
A friend of mine told the interviewer he wanted international exposure for his undergrad Finance degree, the visa officer was impressed
My cousin had an aupair stint in Germany , they just gave her a visa.
A friend of mine was snapped up by Dale Carnegie in DC from S Africa.

1.) You show a lack of understanding between a tourist visa and a specialty work visa.
2.) If US tourist visas were easy to get, you'd have one. Do you? Nope, no US visa. Never been to the US.
3.) The kind of Visa Bemeruca said he had would have been an H1-B visa (Specialty Work Visa). Those kind of Visas would be more difficult to get as he would be taking a potential American Job.

It's always good to share knowledge. If you have any systematic analysis you can share as to why Nigeria is economically comatose, it would be good to put it out. Everyone will claim to make it through University in Nigeria by hard work, yet everyone KNOWS the corruption, cheating and nepotism is widespread and acceptable part of the culture.

The whole Nigerian schtick of using exceptionalism as a substitute for the norm is sickening. The migration argument brings it out full bore.

Comment - UK & USA are better places for Nigerians to succeed.

Nigerian Argument - but Dangote, Agboola and Don Jazzy made it in Nigeria!

Nigerians make all claims to academic achievement but there's very little they've contributed to the world that has made large scale change or improvement to human life. grin Living in Houston presented opportunities to challenge Nigerian oil & gas engineers on this. Some of the conversation is laughable, not worth reporting here. Similar to the typical Unilag or UNN educated lawyer who will claim Nigerians can own land in Nigeria.

Observers can only go by results. The outcome of Nigerian education is clear.

Black Americans were sold into slavery by Nigerians and achieved full rights of USA citizenship in 1964. They have the most wealth and highest HDI of any national group of Negroes on the planet.

Black South Africans got freedom and self rule in 1990. They're the richest and have highest HDI of Black Africans on the Continent.

Nigeria got independence in 1960 and has achieved the distinction of being the Poverty Capital of the World since snatching that honor from India in 2018. grin

Brilliant Nigerians? There's no evidence of them ever existing in the Zoo.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Greed has no religion, or race or gender. It has nothing to do with your class of education or lack of it. The fact that The West has been able to build a system to check it while African is just preparing to build a system to check it does not mean it is not inherent in many individuals in the west. IMO, Trump, but for the check and balances in the American system is like a typical African leader, greedy and selfish.

Nigeria and indeed Africa is not in this backward state because they have no idea, education or knowledge of the way out. Many of the African Governments when coming to power have brilliant policies and programs to lift up their countries, but soon as they got to power, greed set in either directly from the leader himself or from most of the Government appointees, and with no systemic check, all the brilliant ideas get derailed.

IMO, you have little understanding of Nigeria and African history. South Africa education and economy advantage was developed long before 1990.

In other news, Ben Shapiro has made a fool of himself twice on the United Health's CEO's murder.

He was blaming the left as people who support murder and wrongly thinking that people will not empathise with millions who were denied healthcare coverage.

Even his own fans blasted him on his YouTube videos. The comment were all mocking and criticising him. Healthcare is a bipartisan issue- it doesn't matter if you are Conservative or Liberal.

May more right wing clowns who lick the boots of corporate billionaires be exposed.

2) IMO, Trump, but for the check and balances in the American system is like a typical African leader, greedy and selfish.

3) Nigeria and indeed Africa is not in this backward state because they have no idea, education or knowledge of the way out. Many of the African Governments when coming to power have brilliant policies and programs to lift up their countries, but soon as they got to power, greed set in either directly from the leader himself or from most of the Government appointees, and with no systemic check, all the brilliant ideas get derailed.

4) IMO, you have little understanding of Nigeria and African history. South Africa education and economy advantage was developed long before 1990.

1) That the West, particularly the Anglos, have built sustainable democratic systems is attributable to an innate culture & ability to build such. While the English were giving their people with successive waves of democratic empowerment, Black Africans were busy selling their people into slavery. In fact the persistence of despicable class systems like the Osu among the Igbo in this day and age says a lot.

2) Trump may be greedy and impulsive or racist or whatever, but HIS PEOPLE have built a system to keep him in check. That's the point. Everyone shall hopefully be alive to judge after 4 years.

3) The problem with Black Africa is an evolved CULTURE OF SOCIALISM. Read some of the comments from well probably well educated participants on this thread championing subsidies and price controls and condemning free markets. Mark it down - Nigeria will NEVER become a developed nation until it commits to a free market system. There's an ECONOMIC definition of development that everyone can check into.

4) grin I understand the Nigerian economy more than most. My comment history is open to view. Most Nigerian law graduates don't understand that all land in their country is owned by government. That's a basic factor for economic productivity, so if they don't understand that what hope is there for development?

Most university educated Nigerians voted for Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. Enough said.

The proof is in the results. Over half a century of educating the people in independent Nigeria has produced the Poverty Capital of the World. grin shocked grin

Good Luck to Nigerians.

I think the site did ultimately permaban his benalvino3 username.

Seems as if he's been doing it for a while at least based on what he said.

One account in the food section does a similar thing. They’ll post a paragraph that seems innocent/interesting. If you’re not careful, you won’t notice an imbedded one-word link in the paragraph. One time I was swiping and my browser alerted me that I was about to open a link. Obviously I backed away so I can’t say if it was a shady link but why the attempt to disguise it?

Like a boss. Trump has secured $100 billion investment in Technology specifically AI. Expandable to $250 B.

** Trump is not a a '10% for the big guy'

https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-trump-announces-100-billion-investment-to-create-100000-us-jobs-from-japanese-company-softbank
President-elect Donald Trump has wasted no time in getting started on his recent promise to encourage major investment and job creation in the US. He and Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son announced on Monday morning a coming investment of $100 billion into the United States in a move that is projected to create 100,000 jobs.

Meanwhile billionaire Silicon Venture capitalist explains why he supported Trump.
Marc Andreessen:
We had meetings in DC in May where we talked to them about this, and the meetings were absolutely horrifying. We came out basically deciding we had to endorse Trump.

Bari Weiss:
What did you hear in those meetings?

Marc Andreessen:
AI is a technology that the government is going to completely control. This is not going to be a startup thing. They actually said flat out to us, “Don’t start, don’t do AI startups. Don’t fund AI startups. It’s not something that we’re going to allow to happen.

They’re not going to be allowed to exist. There’s no point.” They basically said AI is going to be a game of two or three big companies working closely with the government, and we’re going to basically wrap them in a… I’m paraphrasing, but we’re going to basically wrap them in a government cocoon. We’re going to protect them from competition, we’re going to control them, and we’re going to dictate what they do.

Then I said, “I don’t understand how you’re going to lock this down so much because the math for AI is out there, and it’s being taught everywhere.” They literally said, “During the Cold War, we classified entire areas of physics and took them out of the research community, and entire branches of physics basically went dark and didn’t proceed.”

Marc Andreessen:
If we decide we need to, we’re going to do the same thing to the math underneath AI. I said, “I’ve just learned two very important things because I wasn’t aware of the former, and I wasn’t aware that you were even conceiving of doing it to the latter.”

Biden wanted AI to be controlled by 3 players.. No prizes for guessing ... Microsoft, Meta and Google.

Liberals have an insatiable thirst for controlling every means of information, they need their voters remain completely dumbed down

Any examples of these governments in Nigeria?

Study APC manifesto for Buhari's election in 2015. Brilliant ideas put together by Kayode Fayemi and others. Unfortunately Buhari does not possess the intellectual capacity to implement it. Then he surrounded himself with like-minds and his late chief of staff Kyari became the de facto leader. His presidency became a disaster. Part of me still think Buhari himself is not that greedy or corrupt, but he was an old analog leader in a digital world. Even his Accountant General was stealing billions right under his nose.

Before then, Babangida was given a brilliant working document, I think it was called Vision 20:2020, Greed and corruption failed them to implement it. Followed by Vision 2010 for Abacha, he only implemented small part of it. The only serious and willing among them with Vision 2020 was Yar'adua, unfortunately he got sick and died shortly after inauguration, and Jonathan didn't follow it up.

The point I was making is that, it is not our education or lack of brilliant ideas or knowledge that is failing us as IbeOkehie will want people believe, Nigeria and indeed Africa's failure is due to 3 reasons as Osinbajo put it:

1. Bad leadership
2. Bad Leadership and
3. Bad leadership.

When Africa start putting in place less greedy leaders and we develop a working and sincere institution to check and balance our leaders, Africa will progress at great speed, because Africa has an enormous resources not to be poor.

I agree with your comment that I first quoted but I don’t remember any great ideas Nigerian politicians have propagated. I agree that we have a lot of bright and talented minds but I haven’t encountered many among the political elites hence my question. I‘ll try to crave out some time to research the APC manifesto first. It would have been interesting to read what you thought of it in more detail but thanks for the recommendation.

lol, I am jealous of you. how? I have told you I love my life, I could not ask for more. I don't want to be in the US, I am not that interested. I have said this since 2020 or before. I don't care where you live.
I am just surprised how you use poverty in your family as a projector. you project it to everyone you disagree with. On a forum where you have no clue who is who.
...
I know you will die one day and the same goes to me. I just hope you can carry America to the Grave lol because the way you talk about the US, it feels like you invented it.
...
How old are you by the way? Never seen anyone so childish and what will your imaginary girlfriend say if she sees how you carry US for head?
yes, I am going to Doha, it is not Panama where you don't need a visa to enter or Columbia. But you cannot enter Qatar without a visa, they don't have joe biden. if you have no business being there, they will send you back on the next flight.
