Hi everyone, I’m planning a project to build four separate 12V, 120Ah LiFePO4 battery packs using Headway 40152S batteries, which are rated at 3.2V, 15Ah and feature a cylindrical design with screw terminals. My goal is to achieve a total capacity of 480Ah by connecting these packs in parallel. Each individual pack will use a 4S8P configuration (4 cells in series, 8 such strings in parallel) to achieve the desired voltage and capacity. I’m considering using the DALY BMS 4S 12V 60A LiFePO4 for each 120Ah pack. Here are the details: DALY BMS 4S 12V 60A Specifications: Supported Configuration: 4S (12.8V nominal for LiFePO4) Maximum Continuous Discharge Current: 60A Maximum Charging Current: 60A Features: Overcharge and over-discharge protection Overcurrent and short-circuit protection Cell balancing during charging Temperature protection (optional depending on the model) Dimensions and Weight: Compact and lightweight, designed for ease of integration. My Questions: Capacity Handling: Can the DALY BMS effectively manage the total capacity of 120Ah for each 12.8V pack? Current Rating: Is the 60A discharge current rating sufficient for typical loads, such as running an inverter or other medium-load devices, or would a higher-rated BMS be more suitable? Parallel Connection of Packs: Are there any considerations or challenges in connecting four 120Ah packs in parallel to achieve a combined capacity of 480Ah? Compatibility with Headway Batteries: Are there any potential issues with using this BMS alongside Headway 40152S batteries, which support up to 150A continuous discharge per cell? Thermal Management: Does the DALY BMS require additional cooling (e.g., a heatsink or fan) for sustained operation near its maximum current rating? The power bank will be used for applications that require steady power delivery, such as running inverters and powering electronics. I’d appreciate any insights or advice on whether this BMS is the right choice or if there are better alternatives for my setup. Thank you for your help! 1 Like

9ijaprince:Why don't you make the batteries 48v, because to recharge them at 12v will take a long time , also accessories cost will be much. A 60a BMS will manage a 120ah battery so far you don't exceed the charge and discharge current |

Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by dollarnaira: 10:42am On Dec 12, 2024 |
@9ijaprince. Based on a 12v system. Invest in a good active balancer. What will scatter your set up is imbalance of voltage of each strings. A hard wired bms is almost same as your "Inverter" LVD assuming you are on an uneditable inverter at 2.5v per cell i .e 10v which is not that healthy for your battery. A dumb Inverter lvd is 10.5v at 2.625 per cell which is still in a safe zone and better than a hard wired bms of 2.5v per cell. Unless the hard wired bms lvd is at 3v per cell as most of them are set at 2.5v. Better still get a good bms with active balance not passive balance. If you have the cash and you are bent on using a bms get a Bluetooth one. Summary: Your dumb inverter is ur bms : care for lvd of 10.5v Solar cc sort of bms too: care for cut off at 14.0v or more during charging. Grid charging : care for voltage cut off too. Active balancer : care for same voltage for each string. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL. A bms without an active balance is useless to me. To me ni ooo. My opinion. My opinion. Note: It is not a must you follow the above. |

dollarnaira: @dollarnaira First, thank you for the insightful advice! It’s incredibly helpful and has given me a much clearer understanding of how to approach this system. Initially, I thought this would be easy, but now I see that the BMS is the real “koko” in all of this. The thing is, I already have these batteries, and I don’t want them to go to waste, so that’s why I’m exploring this crazy idea. Just to give you more context, I don’t have much load to power. I’m mainly running a fridge (70 watts), a few bulbs, a TV, phones, and laptops, with a maximum load of around 300 watts. Regarding your recommendations, if I were to go with a 12V or 24V setup, which would you suggest for optimal performance? Also, what capacity would you recommend for the BMS based on this configuration? The power source will be a combination of grid charging and a gasoline generator, as there’s no option to install solar (my landlord go vex!!). How would this affect the BMS and overall setup in your opinion? Thanks again for your help! |

9ijaprince:48v for optimal performance, cost of accessories will also be cheaper. 24v is also better. What accessories do you have on ground aside the batteries? |

Good morning house. I noticed if I run my tv and laptop (my laptop is connected to my tv via hdmi cable) on my house inverter setup the display is very smooth and sharp just like the grid. But if I run same tv and laptop on a sachet inverter, the display start flickering continously either (pure or modify sine wave). I even decided to plug only the laptop on my house power source, and tv on the sachet inverter, vice-versa the issue persist. My house inverter runs 50/60hz while the sachet inverter runs 50hz only. My tv and laptop display is set to 60hz. Could frequency be the problem? Dollarnaira penuelseun |

officialfestus: Its a noise problem. HF inverter are usually noisy especially the cheap ones (not having adequate EM shield/ filters). Your device ( tv / laptop in this case ) internal/external power unit may also not be well equipped to handle such level of noise. Your hdmi cable could also be the cause, for a test, try a very short hdmi cable, if it works well then buy an original longer cable, like those with ferrite beads and proper shielding. Frankly speaking, we all know that the inverter is the source of the noise here, but other connected devices should be able to reject the noise to some reasonable extent. 1 Like |
