Nigeria Police Arrest Popular TikToker For Insulting President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, Police Chief Egbetokun

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly arrested a popular Nigerian TikToker, Seaking, for criticizing President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Seaking was arrested on Saturday shortly after he made a video where he criticized President Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, and Egbetokun.

The TikToker had made a video where he referenced a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, who described insulting people online as a criminal offence.

SaharaReporters had reported that Adejobi said that hurling insults at someone online is not merely a form of criticism or freedom of expression, but rather an act of cyberbullying, which it described as a criminal offence.

The Force spokesperson said this in the wake of a recent case involving a viral post by activist Olamide Abiodun Thomas.

Thomas, who was protesting the police’s use of tear gas during the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests in Abuja, recorded a video following which she was accused of insulting the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, as well as Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi.

Reacting to Adejobi’s statement, Seaking made a video where he expressed outrage at the statement, questioning why the police would prioritize cracking down on critics instead of pursuing criminals.

In a video making the rounds on social media, Seaking was shown being questioned by some security officers at a yet-to-be-identified location.

Reacting to Seaking’s arrest report, human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who had challenged Adejobi to provide constitutional provisions to justify that hurling insults at someone online is a crime, condemned the action of the police.

Calling for information on his whereabouts, Inibehe said, “Anyone with useful information about his family or the police station he was taken to should kindly contact me.”

In the video, the man didn’t hold back, directing curses at President Tinubu and blaming him for the country’s troubles. He also lashed out at Governor Sanwo-Olu and other politicians, accusing them of contributing to Nigeria’s current situation.

The lad raged in Yoruba and Pidgin English as he said:

“The Inspector General of Police said if anyone insults others, such a person should be arrested. It won’t be well with Bola Tinubu. He won’t have peace of mind wherever he is.”

“Next is Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor with the black eye. It won’t be well with you, and you won’t have peace wherever you are.”

“You’re spoiling the country and not being held accountable. None of you politicians will know peace. It won’t be well for all of you who brought Nigeria to this state. You shall experience loss.”

He claimed to have been declared wanted and said he was receiving frequent calls from the authorities.

In defiance, he challenged the police, saying:

“They said they’re looking for me and have declared me wanted on their platform. Senseless set of people.”

“People like Yahaya Bello, who are destroying the country, are free, yet you declare me wanted. Those stealing money are untouched, but you’re after me.”

Buhari tried as much as possible to enact the social media bill, to curtail the insanity on social media but there was outcry from social media bullies and then, he backed out.
Right now, we don't need any social media bill anymore. We're in a democracy whereby there's freedom of speech and there's also consequences for freedom of speech.
People have the right to free speech and also, the victims of the free speech have the right to sue for the consequences of free speech. So, if you have the right to talk nonsense, others also have equal right to use the law to cure your nonsense.

After God, na Tinubu 💪 God bless Nigeria.

Dem don tag everything 'Cyberbullying'.

When the Arab spring starts. Politicians and the rulers must remain here be ready to face the consequences since they want Nigerians to bottle up emotions and not ventilate their anger.

Nigerians will explode someday, and it will be unprecedented in the annals of history. Even guns will not be able to stop it. A man who is down fears no fall.

The day Nigerians have nothing to lose except their miserable lives, then I pity the ruling class and their families.

But you've been insulting Tinubu and calling him all kinds of names, same thing you did to Buhari but I don't think APC supporters were cursing GEJ's family and saying that he would bury his children. That's the line APC supporters did not cross. Even in the US, if you say something as horrible to the President or threaten him or his family, you will be arrested.

APC supporters insulted Goodluck and his Wife.

They did not extend it to his daughter probably because they don't know her. Goodluck kept his daughter out of camera and politics.

But Tinubu's children are into politics too, that's why people extend their insults to them

APC supporters didn't cross the line, they were reasonable. Calling GEJ names is different from cursing him and his family. GEJ was a former deputy Governor, Vice president, before becoming President, everybody knows he has a family. Just because Shettima does not show off his children, doesn't mean people don't know he has children. Honestly, these new sets of opposition are too bitter and unreasonably emotional and it's all because they lost an election.
