Hi guys...

So I got a job in Saudi Arabia as a heavy duty equipment electrician 2years contract but renewable but am very scared to make the move cox of the fear of the unknown...

Firstly I work with a reputable company here in Nigeria in the maritime sector as a FTE and I get approximately 400k monthly and I am being offered a salary of 3500sr(1.3m) for the Saudi Arabia job. I will only visit my country once in a year, am not married and am 33, n pressure of marriage dey my neck.

Though accomodation and flight expenses will be catered for by the company but I don't know if it's really worth taking the move though I don't know the cost of living in saudi Arabia.... I don't know if you have a saudi Arabia experience.. please I need your inputs...

Thank you very much
PLEASE MOVE! My Uncle is there and he is doing fine.

The pay a bit on a low side.
But you can go to get international experience. Work there for 2 years. You might even get better offer there after spending 2 years there.
Or move to Europe or Australia after 2 years....
Seconded

There's this dude that told you " to marry at least a bachelor's degree holder, no go look yansh and breast blah blah blah" guy man run from such advice,

Don't marry Because of degree or monetary interests, marry someone who loves you, homely, calm and will look after your kids.

Take this from me, money is not everything
peace of mind is.
we only live once.

wish you well in Saudi
it's a great place.
just mind your business and you will be fine

One beautiful thing about Saudi is they sacrificed a lot to clear out the extremist in the country. They are now enjoying the fruit of that endless labor, though retaining its strict religious principles as the Muslim holy land it's open for business.
Go forth my child only problem is if konjji hit you, you can make a trip back to Nigeria. The reason is they don't condone boyfriend girlfriend nonsense. You marry and take your wife there

Salary is too small to move
I live abroad
Don’t move for 1.3m if you make 400k in Nigeria

Options I’ll recommend
Look for a better job in Nigeria

Find out the actual cost of living in Saudi Arabia and do a manual calculation factoring how much you can save and what happens if your contract is not renewed

Ask the Saudi company for more money and longer tenure

If you do go don’t hand over your passport to anyone, hold enough money in a dollar account/card to book a return ticket and didn’t resign from your job yet, take your annnual leave and go and check it out

Well said. The money is ridiculously small. He may actually save more staying in this country. But then again, everything depends on what he stands to gain besides just salary. If working there will get him better prospects, then he should go. Afterall, he won't get that same opportunity staying back in Nigeria

In my own opinion that salary is small, look at it in terms of your expenses in that country.
If you really possess verifiable experience as an heavy duty equipment electrician. You have a lot of options and you can bargain more.
Infact you stand a better chance I Australia with better future prospect.
My opinion anyway
ok i understand you, that salary is small, but 400k per month he is earning in Nigeria is big. He go pay accomodation inside the 400k o, but saudi go give am accomodation.

Make sure you go ASAP, Saudi Arabia is the future and also they don't tax workers, whatever you make will be yours.

Make sure you have saved up money for a return flight.

Take a 3 months leave at work and go try it out.

It’s generally known that Arabs don’t treat foreign labour well EXCEPT highly skilled expatriates.

Be ready to work like a slave. Besides, the pay is small compared to what you will be doing. In my opinion, stay back and keep searching for a better opportunity. It's just an advice, you're not mandated to take it but time will tell.

He doesn't have international experience yet, he can't bargain. Also, once accommodation is out of the way, no major expense again. Let him just work hard so that he can negotiate for review after two years.

Congratulations my brother. This is a very great opportunity. Please take it. Cost of living in most cities in Saudi is cheap. The country capital, Riyadh is a little bit expensive tho. If your job comes with accommodation, you could save at least 2500 riyals every month from your salary. I can give you first hand information about the country. Let me know if you have any question. I could even help you run a background check of the company.

What is the name of the company?
Have you googled the company?

Don't let any silly person lie to you, your passport will be taken from you

What you need to do is find out about the company itself.

The middle East is not a good place for artisans and blue collar workers so you need to do actual research.

Did you get the job yourself or is it through an 'agent?'

Move to Saudi Arabia... It's one of the country that doesn't tax salary, so you're potentially looking at earning equivalent of 3-4 years Nigerian salary in 1 year of working in Saudi Arabia... Plus the new experience will boost your experience and CV a lot and will give you a lift if you want to travel to Europe from there. I doubt if you will want to after the experience.

Just ensure you give the job your 100%... Do you work well please...

As for marriage, make sure you marry someone with at least a bachelor's degree... No go look yansh and breast take choose wife o else you will regret your life. And yes, you can come back to marry in 2 years, if there's hope of you retaining the job for more years, and from there you can easily move to Canada/Germany/UK.

I don't need to tell you about Tinubu and the damage he's going to cause the country and how that will affect whatever income you think you are earning now in Nigeria.

Run while you still can but make sure the job is legitimate before making your final decision. No go quit your job now only to find out the job is a scam. If possible take a 2-3 weeks leave from your Nigeria job and go resume in SA. If everything is legit, send your resignation letter from there.

Wish you all the best
Hello Sir, your head is very correct and full of wisdom. Happy New Year ahead
