I50k in Abuja is mere survival.... Because 150k here in Delta can't sustain a single man. Except one is living in the village, 150k anywhere is survival in today's Nigeria. But it's at least better than 35k. |

Don't mind them. As an English instructor, I earn 6 figures at my place of work. Then I earn 3 times my salary from my private practice. I do online teaching too. Then there are one-off jobs that come in between. I'm still in my school because I need the platform to get side jobs You do know six figures is a million naira or so, right? I like the online teaching and private practice part. And the platform part tells me you're in a school where the rich bring their kids. Teaching isn't the best job in Nigeria, but I like it when I see teachers who have foresight. |

Good day chief. I'm great at maths and the sciences! I have also developed a talent of explaining complex ideas and problems in simple terms using examples from daily life to enhance my student's understanding and also make learning very attractive. Kindly point me to some online platforms that could connect teachers to international students. Thank you. |

indoorlove: It's difficult to give a specific amount. Schools in the city center pay more compare to schools in the subborb area of the city.
A. Schools in the city center + at least 2 years of hands-on experience: 100k - 300k B. Schools in the subborb: 60 - 100k.
Within that range, but not up to N300,000. |

No money in teaching, most schools don't pay good money, only few pay and they don't employ much teachers. |

Please, I do I get the, Advanced Placement (AP) certification for American schools?I how can I reach you? Through mail or WhatsApp NaturesSon: Teaching jobs in Abuja are divided into different categories based on the types of schools in the city. There are three main types of schools:
A-Class Schools These schools cater to the super-rich and expatriates, often offering American or British curriculums. Tuition fees range from ₦3.5 million to ₦7.5 million per year, with some American schools even charging fees in dollars. To be hired as a teacher, you must have a Cambridge IGCSE certification for British schools or an Advanced Placement (AP) certification for American schools. Even if you have a Ph.D. or are a professor, you won't be hired without these certifications. These schools pay well, with starting salaries ranging from ₦300k to ₦500k (I recently helped a friend get a job at my school with a starting salary of ₦500k). Jobs at these schools are hard to come by since most staff stay long-term, and replacements are typically based on recommendations. These schools are also known for being secretive about their operations. Prominent A-Class schools include AISA, ICS, CTL, and TRS. Students from these schools typically go abroad for university education, often attending top universities worldwide.
B-Class Schools B-Class schools are for middle-income earners, such as civil servants(those ones wey the steal our money) and others earning above ₦1 million per month. Tuition fees range from ₦500k to ₦3 million per year. These schools are typically Nigerian or a mix of Nigerian and British curriculums. Starting salaries for teachers range from ₦150k to ₦250k. It's easier to get a job here, but you need to be skilled and have a TRCN certification, along with a Cambridge IGCSE certification (though it's not always required). The work here can be very stressful. Notable B-Class schools include Loyola, NTIC, Centagon, Page Schools, and so on.
C-Class Schools C-Class schools are typical Nigerian schools with fees below ₦150k. Teachers in these schools usually earn less than ₦100k to start, and the stress levels are very high. Even if you're a professor, you won't earn what you might expect because these schools simply can't afford to pay more.
Teaching in Abuja can be lucrative, but it depends on the type of school. The wealthier the school, the better the pay, even for private lessons. Teachers in A-Class schools typically charge by the hour and can earn at least ₦100k for 4 contacts or 8 hours a month.
What qualifications does your friend have? Does he know anyone working in an A-Class school? He should reach out because as a math teacher, he could earn a lot and live comfortably—assuming there are no overwhelming personal responsibilities.
PS. Don't stay in a shanty school and condemn the teaching profession. There are teachers who are earning like bank mangers or oil workers! Nobody told me - I know. |

temitope27: 500k per month Even headteacher sef no dey see that one. What you get is anything from N50-80k as a regular teacher in capital cities. Less than that if outside the capital. If you have other skills in extracurricular activities you can teach the kids add N20k to N50k a month to that |

Interesting thread.
I have two female friends who are teachers. One in Abuja and the other in Port-harcourt. Although, both don't teach mathematics, but I could sense from our conversations that they admit/know that math teachers earn the highest in the industry. My friend who got a fully funded master's scholarship to a Canadian university was an entry-level math teacher at one of the top secondary schools in the state where he earned the highest salary and got free accommodation. I once contracted a math tutor who taught at the same school and he attested that math teachers are offered preferential treatment and earn very well. Plus, they have side-gigs to earn more. Additionally, I recall a conversation I had with a lass who worked at a secondary school in Ikeja and told me that teachers with MSc earned 150K. But they weren't math teachers.
In summary, no good and qualified (relevant certifications) math teacher in Abuja should earn less than 150K per month as an entry-level staff. 3 Likes |

Hopez456: Your discipline is a lucrative one, most schools in the city centre pay around 250-350k depending on your expertise, qualifications and negotiation power. Those in the suburbs may offer 70-120k.
You can make more money x 2 of your salary with call in or online lessons especially for the kids of the rich in Abuja. I pay about 300k for my kids fir just 16 hours a month. |

Coldrux: 35k.. I feed from it. Pay House-Rent Transport and support my siblings since we are orphans.
I can never advise any young guy to teach in a private sch, and if u must teach there, don't stay long on the job. It's tantamount to time waste. You can't make anything meaningful from there. I'm a perfect example. I wanted to quit this January, but it's unwise doing so without having anything doing. Moreso, my rent expires next month. I can't sleep. I'm disturbed cos of this. Loyola fees are 5.5 million this year. The majority (80-90 percent) of every graduating class at Loyola attend top universities abroad. How do you put regent, ics (ctl or whatever) ahead of Loyola? What metrices did you use? Also none of those campuses compares to Loyola's in terms of size and (arguably) beauty/landscaping. There a reason it remains the most sort after secondary school in the country. |
