And they are tasteless. Imagine frying chicken and a bite didn’t really push you towards having another .
I observed and mentioned it to my mum that I’m not sure this chicken was naturally bred.

Not exactly like usual taste experience
This was what prompted this topic actually, after marinating and frying the taste was just on the surface.
Explanation is the chicken was just too big that ingredients didn't really enter inside the bone

The steroids are much.

Even teenagers are affected.

Thats because these teenagers start eating shawarma and hamburger and pizza and other pasta which are enhanced with GMO to increase their calories content.

These calories from GMO are transfered to children who consume these foods genre in enormous quantity, hence the extra large size of teenagers these days.

The way next generation will be down with Hypertension, heart failures among others 50 years from now will be alarming.

Thank God for my local fowl and village local goat. They are healthier because they eat natural grasses.

Rightly said.
Mehn I miss local chicken of those years in the village o.

Just pepper and salt or maggi and ur food to go with oily clear liquid soup.
Not the fatty dark color soup these super chickens produce.

I also avoid those late mangoes they sell too

That was my question. Who are this "same organic farms" so some of us can be on the lookout for the brand names cool

Instating the same ones you talking about.

Have you ever wondered that fruits don’t have seasons🙂. It’s always available and they will claim it’s organic.

This is envy at its peak. Just because Nigerians are currently fasting involuntarily doesn't mean these innocent creatures should. People with such thoughts must not be allowed to go close to where these chickens are fed especially if they complain of having small peepee or being slim. They might decide to eat everything.

I thought so, but just wajt to be certain I'm not the only one that has seen it.

I know gmo has existed for long but why has someone not been doing it for us to notice.
Only this year end I'm seeing such

They are probably fed with advanced chemicals.... And less natural food.

Chemicals mixed with steroids.

I either eat pork, local layers, cow or goat meat.

At least these ones will be fed less chemicals

But why didn't they do all this years before for them to be this big.
I mean they could have done it in 2023 or 22.

It's just as if they all went to meeting and said.

" let's all grow em big. Just add this and this " then shared in a group chat.

I did not see one single small chicken in the market meaning every poultry person got the memo from their whatsapp group grin

grin Ok bro, for the sake of knowledge sharing, there are lots of methods discovered for keeping fresh fruits available to consumers throughout the year, even when they are not in season locally. I didn't study Agric but was in research and got some collateral exposure. Ask Agric graduates and students now.

Most feeds you give the chickens now contains some genetics modifying substances that enhance growth.

We should be worried about the safety if those meet

What they call organic is not. Don’t fall for it
It is "organic".
What you imagine to be organic is likely different though.
Even if we are to remove all farmers cutting corners from the organic industry,
no commercial food products can meet the publics ideal of what organic products are supposed to be.

Either grow yours or manage the commercial, more expensive, organic.

The chickens themselves are GMO.
There's a reason we make a distinction between agric and local chicken.

There's nothing dangerous about big chickens. They are not necessarily GMO or whatever you're thinking. I have a backyard farm in my Lagos home and some of my broilers got really huge, so this is not surprising to me.

Selective breeding alone can explain why some chickens are bigger. If tall humans keep intermarrying for 3 generations, they'd produce giants, naturally.

Don't panic...
How about the feeds you give them.
Is there a chance that the feeds include new things youbare not aware of?
Like from their factory, because production is expensive and they won't use the same ingredients in the same measure like before so this time they add X to atleast make your chickens grow.

Let it not be like their feed no longer has any effect on your chicken even after cutting costs on their end
Re: Have You Noticed The Sudden Trend Of Big Chickens In Nigeria? by Solosolojohquay: 5:23pm On Jan 02
Most of this chicken you are referring to are white what happens to the brown egg layers we are used to in 80s you will even see egg inside after it has been slaughtered I saw one of these whiten chicken in the market and I got scared by the size of its head and legs one leg alone is as thick as a 2 years old baby leg

Well I bought 2 different brands of feed for them and they have different nutrient requirements for each stage of their growth. While I wasn't present at the factory, I don't think the feed has anything unapproved but is that a possibility? - Maybe... But I doubt it.

The fact is that chickens were much more smaller 100 years ago... All the 'agric' chicken we're buying that are bigger than local ones have always been a product of human invention. So you can expect to see bigger breeds in the next 10 years. I believe it's just the result of selective breeding, not the feed.

December of last year marked the first time I came across a chicken so big and heavy that I had to stop and wonder. It’s not something you typically see around here, and I’d imagine the same goes for other states as well.

Initially, I thought it was just a rare exception when I received two hefty chickens as gifts. They were so massive that I almost doubted they were the regular chickens we’re used to seeing. Each one cost up to ₦28,000 a price far beyond what we’d usually associate with the common poultry we know.

However, my visit to the market recently revealed something surprising. Chickens just as big as the ones I received were everywhere! Stall after stall, it was the same big, heavy birds ready for sale. It got me thinking: why the sudden shift?

Where did all these oversized chickens come from? Why weren’t they as common before the end of 2024?

It’s curious how this trend seemed to pop up almost overnight. Could it be that something new is being used to grow these chickens faster and larger? Were there advancements in poultry farming techniques that suddenly became widespread? Or is this tied to some kind of new feed or growth-enhancing practice that wasn’t used before?

More importantly, should we be concerned about potential health implications? If these chickens are being bred or enhanced in ways we don’t fully understand, could there be side effects for consumers down the line?

I can’t help but wonder if others have noticed this trend too. Does it feel suspicious to you, or do you think it’s simply a result of improved farming practices?
Share your thoughts
have you encountered these big chickens recently, have you been seeing them often before ending of last year? and do you know what might be causing this sudden boom?

Maybe it's only me that's noticed this

While you are here, you can check out my other topic grin
I think you're a very smart person to be asking these questions. The fact is that food production, processing and sale are not regulated in Nigeria. So farmers, wholesalers and market women use anything in any quantity and at time - which they feed to the unsuspecting public. Ideally, someone needs to investigate this and assure the public that nothing untoward is going on. Anyway, I'll stick to my local chicken for now.

Bro, we are in for a lot of shockers! 10-20 years from now, there will be a great shift in our body system that even scientists will marvel at the intentional damage we caused our system! There are some kinda weird feeds in the market and drugs too. Last year, I feed chickens too but mine stayed till 7 months and they were ok. I was feeding them with finishers feed.
Go to the market and you'll hear different names for feeds. Just as I opined earlier, the future is pregnant with varieties of things that might be palatable.

The feeds have intensely high growth hormones and the chicks have genetic makeup that was tweaked. It's what the big corporations use to have high chicken growths and fast supply. In 2 months or just above, they weigh big and mature fast. But they are always very tasteless and will require you to use intense seasoning to get the cardboard-starchy-bland taste out of the meat.

Stay with local chicken. My very very serious advice
