Anyone working without getting paid for 8 months should be investigated. It completely defies economic principles and points towards fraud.

I remember a friend once worked with filling stations with paltry salary. Despite all our efforts for hum to leave there ,he remained glued to the station as if he was a stakeholder until he told us he made ×10 of his salary before month end.

There is a lot of competition. Are they still making money?

If costs>revenue, there is no business. Wages are a cost.
They may have to downside and stop opening branches and incurring more running costs (fuel, etc).
