Mombasa port hit 2M TEUS. Durban is normally at 2.5-2.7M.
It grew by 25%
So if we keep the momentum
Mombasa port will exceed Durban in two years.

Kenya leads in Tech Startups funding again in 2024.

Kenya led with 648M dollars, Nigeria came second, raising Sh52.9 billion ($410 million), followed by Egypt with Sh51.6 billion ($400 million) and South Africa at Sh51 billion ($394 million).

In West Africa, Ghana and Benin trailed Nigeria with Sh8.8 billion ($68 million) and Sh6.5 billion ($50 million), respectively.

Kenya has 10 times Ghana and nearly twice South Africa

Nigeria has not rebased for over 10 years now (Rebasing should be done every 5 years). When the rebasing is done it would capture the nominal GDP vis-a-vis the double devaluation of the naira that saw the official rate drop 3.5 times what it was in May 2023 (from 460 to 1530). But Nigeria’s GDP even in real terms has been growing.

The thing about floating is that the resulting inflation would mean the local currency would catch up after some time. Yes volume of goods and services would reduce at the beginning due to lack of purchasing power from the inflation but in few years at most, everything would adjust to where they were before in dollar terms depending on how fast the economy grows.

Please don't ask such a sensitive question we're going through a lot right now as a country cry

But in all seriousness I'm optimistic that the worst is over we had to undergo a hard (harsh!) reset.

Much of the inflation is also caused by the devaluation. Once there is currency stability or appreciation for a full year, it would have a pass through effect on inflation.

You can trust the Kenya national bureau of statistics because they have the data for births/ deaths / immigration / emigration like on a daily while the rest simply work with projection formulas without real-time data.
