That's why I tell people to avoid Nigerian used cars cos na problem you de buy. They money you'll spend in fixing it would exceed the amount you spent in buying it.

Go to apapa those cars coming in from the ship, negotiate with a dealer, pay and carry your car home. You'll use it for up to 2 years before it starts giving you any major issue.

Most of the mechanic would have sweet mouth a bad car for you to buy inorder to get his own share from the car seller..... This is more reason I advice people who intend to buy a car should try as much as possible to get a tokunbo... All this naija used car are just packaging

Even most of the Tokunbo cars in Nigeria are Nigerian used repackaged.

Car dealers on nairaland are just to have an idea of the price range of the car you want to buy. Most of them advertise Nigerian used cars for the price of tokumbo.

The Muscle I bought at apapa, I used it for close to 2 years before it started giving me issues.

If not for fund, there is nothing sweet as buying a Tokunbo car.

There are still trusted sellers in Nigeria but are rare...and before you meet them, you would likely go through wolf-like marketers.

When I bought mine, I was fortunate and met the direct owner after the marketer was meandering about. The direct seller no get stress. He even gave me a guarantee but I didn't need it because nothing spoilt..

I step out of Lagos searching for a reliable camry 2004. I saw many dealers on Jiji and nairaland. I visited each of them with my reliable mechanic.
After checking several cars, we discovered that none of the Nigerian used cars is worth buying .
They always have one problem or the other. The most common is bad engines.

Many dealers even promised to give my mechanic 100k behind my back to convince me to buy this melon car.

It's crazy that with 4.5 million, all you can get is a bad car.
We return home disappointed.

On getting home. I went back to check my own car that I have been driving for 5 years. My engine, gear, and ac are still in perfect condition and I wonder if those putting their car on sale are those with major problem.

Nigeria dealers have ruined the used car market.
Is this a problem with toyota or because the car is a lower year.

I didn't consider other brands. Maybe it would have been a different situation.

Bought a 2017 Lexus Rx350with 58000 miles only to find out the engine block (aluminium part) is broken and they sealed it up with glue.

Also it's an accident car, has lots of sensor light on I didn't check well until I took it home.

Most people sell their cars because they are tired of the constant faults

What’s wrong with these dealers?

Why can’t they be upfront with the owners and tell them that the car they’re trying to sell is scrap? Why is it so hard for them to be honest with the owners ? I don’t mind buying a car with a bad engine, but the problem arises when it’s sold at the price of one with a sound engine.

I remember when I wanted to sell my van. The first buyer who came, I told him to look for another van. The second buyer mentioned he had borrowed money and needed a van for hauling, but I still advised him to find a different one. Eventually, I sold it to someone who only needed it for body parts, and we’re still friends to this day.

I have the same car and I have driven it for 5 years. I never experience oil shortage. Engine is too silent . Never fixed anything on the engine before.
Maintainance is the key.

I can't spend more than 2.5m on Nigeria used car, 4.5m is much for a used car

Am selling cos am not even sure of coming to Nigeria this year, so no need to park.

Price is very ok and car is of course in precinct condition, I bought it myself directly in USA.

Unfortunately the car is only available for anyone in the East, especially Aba or Owerri because I can not get to ask someone to take it to Lag or anywhere else since I don't have anyone to trust with it. Except the buyer is ready to travel go check it out.

If you want to buy a Nigerian used car presently, you need to take your time. Don't buy from any middle man. Those so called dealers are worst than house agent. Some of them add as much as 500k on top wetin the owner dey demand. Look for a friend, a friend's friend or a Yahoo boy trying to sell around you. So you can have an idea of the usage.
All those "car used by a lady" "owner relocating abroad" etc na packaging.
Wetin my eye see when I was trying to "upgrade" by getting a Nigerian used no be small.
Now I don go back to my own car. When I have money I go get a Tokunbo.

Is buying a car from a yahoo boy the new trend now? I hope someone will not buy an accursed vehicle. The end may not be good o....
