The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has secured 50 Acres of farmland in Ogun for the 2025 farming season and beyond.

Johnson Babatunde, the executive chairman of the LCDA, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Sunday.

Mr Babatunde said that over 50 acres of land at Obada Oko in Abeokuta North Local Government area of Ogun would be given to interested residents for crop and animal farming to cushion the effects of food challenges.

He said that the council would assist interested residents of Orile-Agege in farming on the land using modern technologies.

“The project will also usher in new creativity, imagination, and skills in planting crops and raising animals with modern production methods,” the council chairman said.

Mr Babatunde said the efforts were meant to empower Orile-Agege youths and other residents interested in farming, noting that the project would ensure surplus food.

He said the project was part of the council’s unwavering commitment to community empowerment, with a special focus on youth development.

“By investing in agriculture, we are fostering an environment that encourages young people to explore opportunities in farming, entrepreneurship, and innovation,” he said.

This is what I expect from government instead of giving out 50k as empowerment. Mass food production. If every local government train 1000 youths in farming and produce land, in two years, we will be exporting food

Dividing that land by giving it to people makes no sense.

The lcda should farm the land direct as a whole entity, they can invite people to investl in the farm , instead of breaking up the land

I know at least 6 LG/LCDA chairmen in Lagos doing what most other governors aren’t even capable of

From high rise residential buildings, to roads, drainages, schools and recreational facilities

Though 50 acres is small, it's till a good initiative and a laudable one.

If all 774 local government can invest like this in agric and get people involved with the use of machines for cultivation, our food challenges would be reduced in the next one and half years. Instead of us all focusing on federal government, let's start holding state and local government responsible.

These states are trying. But not much as we do up north in terms of food and agriculture. That region with abundance of rainfall can do better.

Mudashiru Obasa's local government. Perhaps, the LG chairmo has developed cold feet about the news earlier today. Na why he is coming up with this big project.

Nigga nor want hammer to fall on him too

What do I even know other than to remind you all that President Tinubu has less than 866 days to handover power to the next person.

I made a proposition one time that Osun state could assign a thousand hectares per lg to youths in that lg for farming...if every state for instance can replicate that for cassava and maize farming alone..... everywhere would be awash with food.

See people thinking. They are buying land for farming in your state and you as the governor is folding hands. An LG chairman is buying land for farming... What a wonderful thought and great development. This must be the result of the new LG allocation law. Some chairmen are still looking.

Lagos come Ogun State dey claim land

In the future Lagos will be claiming ownership of Obada Oko as they did by hijacking Badagry, Epe, Agbowa, Imota, from Ogun State

Obada oko should be under Ewekoro local government now,but what do I know since Obada is very close to boundaries
