IGBO ARE EXPANSIONISTS: IKWERRE ELDERS ISSUE SERIOUS WARNING, DISOWN MBATA & OTHERS CLAIMING IGBO IDENTITY

So recently, I shared a video featuring a man who passionately urged Ikwerre people to stop denying their Igbo identity. He cited historical evidence, claiming that in 1400 AD, when the Portuguese first visited Ikwerre land, the people there identified themselves as Igbo. He even referenced a book by the Oba of Benin, which states that the Ikwerre and Etche are typical Igbo people.

Beyond historical accounts, he highlighted notable Ikwerre figures like Chibuike Amaechi, Emmanuel Aguma, Okogbule Wonodi, Uche Okwukwu, and now Azuta Mbata—the current Ohaneze Ndigbo president-general—all of whom openly identify as Igbo. According to him, these reasons and more firmly establish Ikwerre as part of the Igbo identity.

However, some comments from Indigenous Ikwerre people on this channel prompted me to dig deeper. I found opposing views that assert Ikwerre is not Igbo.

They argue that Ikwerre people are from Rivers State in the Niger Delta region, with their own distinct culture and traditions. They referenced the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation's declaration during the Chukwudifu Oputa Human Rights Violation Panel in 2001, which stated:

“Ikwerre ethnic nationality is not and has never been a subgroup of any other tribe in Nigeria, including Ndi-Igbo…”

They also cited the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended in 2010), which recognises Ikwerre as a distinct ethnic group. Many believe attempts by some Igbo expansionists to incorporate Ikwerre into the Igbo fold undermine their unique identity.

With all this said, I believe we should respect both perspectives. Let Ikwerre people who identify as Igbo be proudly Igbo, and those who don't should remain true to their choice. After all, “live and let live” brings peace.

Guys, I’ll let you watch the video for yourself so you can see exactly what I’m talking about. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe to this channel if you haven’t already!

Confused elders. If you are not Igbo, stop answering Igbo names. You're from Rivers State created in 1967 as a means of dividing and weakening Igbos before the war. Now, it's working just as planned by your real enemy. Your forefathers and foremothers that lived before 1967, where were they from? Nothing is as shameful as an old person who has refused to grow.
Godwin4444:
y do u Igbos answer English names when u ain't from England?
Lol. You obviously think that this question is clever. We answer English name for a different reason: It's because we were colonized by English people. Now, as I have answered, you also tell me why Ikwere answer Igbo name. They were never colonized by Igbo as we were colonized by the British. So, what's their reason for answering Igbo names?
Godwin4444:
they answer Igbo names because they were under u during d old eastern region but now that we have 6 geopolitical zones then they are no longer under u

Hope u get it now?

It's like Britain still claiming Nigeria after independence n saying we are still under them cos we bear English names
They were "under" us, lol! How were they "under" us?

Geopolitical division and ethnic identity are two different things. This is why we insist that Kabba, Ilorin, and other Yoruba regions outside Southwest remain Yoruba. Try to have enough sense to know that your ethnic group is natural while geopolitical division is man-made.
Ikwerre was never under anyone when we were under Eastern Region together. For example, there was never anyone from Awka, Onitsha, Owerri, Nsukka, or any part of the present-day Southeast who ruled over any part of Ikwerre as the British ruled over us.

Instead, Ikwerre answer Igbo names only because they are historically Igbos. They were answering Igbo names even before Nigeria was created, let alone Eastern Nigeria unlike us who started answering English names after encountering the British.

So, how can you say that they answer Igbo names because they were "under" us in Eastern Nigeria? I don't even care if Ikwerre is Igbo or not, but it's good to set the records straight. And I'm only explaining this to those whose thinking capacity is still in tact.

It's certainly unfair to compare Igbo with Fulani while talking about landgrabbing. Igbos come to a place. They follow due process to buy land and develop property. Fulani comes to kill instantly and you dare compare the two? Wow!!! There's no level of stupidity that hatred won't make you descend to.

Despite the fact that some of them are having identity crisis, they should always have it at the back of their minds that there's freedom of association..

The outcome of this election has obviously thrown some people into a state of total madness, tears and confusion... grin grin grin

More tears and lamentations are expected to flow next week...

Igbos are not expansionists. Carry your self Dey go. You have every right to choose your identity, but the ikwerres who identify as Igbos also have the right to choose their identities as well.

This would not be such a big deal if there were a salient distinction between Igbos and ikwerres. Unfortunately our languages are similar, our culture, our names, I wish it weren’t like this but it is.

Some igbos believe ikwerres are the “lost” Igbos. As for me and the other majority, we don’t see the anioma, the ikwerres and the ika people as Igbo, even Agbor.

Let this die down. Caution your brother who maliciously contested for presidency of that useless committee, but don’t lie against the Igbos. They’re not expansionists, in fact, they prefer to stay on their own, than to occupy a territory of diverse groups.

Here is an Igbo man from Imo who claims Ikwerre, but still threatens to shed Ikwerre blood to get access to the sea.
How can you claim to be Ikwerre and threaten to shed the blood of your people to get access to the sea?
Very provocative tantrum from someone at such age who should know the repercussions of such irresponsible action.

The Ikwerres are a distinct and recognised ethnic group.
Individuals with such hate are the ones doing 'unification'?

Yoruba cursed fool.

Igbos bought all lands in Land with their money and made animals like you their tenants. But Yorubas have been looting endlessly the resources of Rivers state since they divided the Igbos after the war.

Yorubas are economic terrorists in Nigeria.

See how you bandits have been crying that brothers reunited, no be juju dey worry una?

Ikwere Igbos have come stronger and will soon recover all oil companies occupied by Yorubads.
so fulanis are no longer the problem of d Igbos?

So because a Yoruba man is now the president then yorubas suddenly became the problem of all Igbo?

So tomorrow if an Hausa man becomes problem then hausas will suddenly become d problem of all Igbos?

U people are pathetic clowns, so anyone who becomes the president suddenly becomes your problem

U Igbos castigated fulanis for good 8 years simply because a Fulani man was president n u presented it as if all d problem u ever had was from d fulanis but suddenly when yorubas took over yorubas suddenly became your problem
