Police: Only 26 Of The Rescued 2,000 Illegal Miners Are South African by RandDigital: 12:50am On Jan 20
Only 26 South Africans were among the almost 2,000 zama zamas (illegal miners) who resurfaced alive from the Stilfontein illegal mining operations.

SA Police Spokesperson (SAPS) national spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe said their operation at the Buffelsfontein shaft 11 that started on Monday led to the retrieval of 246 people and 78 bodies.

Breakdown of the nationalities of those retrieved (since last Monday):

Mozambican: 128
Lesotho: 80
Zimbabweans: 33
South Africans: 5

Mathe said between August 18 2024 and Wednesday, 1,905 zama zamas had resurfaced.

The majority of them — 1,125 — were Mozambicans, followed by Zimbabweans (465) with 200 being from Lesotho. There were only 26 South Africans.

The other two were a Malawian and a Congolese.

The total number of bodies recovered was 87.

“Of the illicit miners arrested nine are still in hospital under police guard,” Mathe said.

Wow how time has changed a lot of things......I remember when there was apartheid in SA it was very painful for Nigerians to bear including my baby self, Nigeria led a global crusade to liberate our black brothers.....when the chips are down really we only have each other....it was an uphill task as the western world turned a blind and even supported the oppression of our brothers in their own land including Israel..... Nigeria sponsored the education of very many SAns and even ensured their well being. That was why after Mandela was sworn in as president his first official tour was to Nigeria to say THANK YOU......young SAns will never know what their grandparents went through and the sacrifices and role Nigeria made and played for the life of freedom they enjoy today.

I know the SAn youth of today don't even know Eddy grant or sunny okosun they are oblivious of the huge efforts Nigeria put in for the freedom they enjoy today.

But the kingpins that recruits them and sponsor them are ALL SOUTH AFRICANS
They are the ones that lure the poor and vulnerable from those countries to go underground for them

South Africans engage in all sorts violent crimes and blame others for it. I have got Nigerians that studied for their Masters in South Africa and told me stories of how they barely escaped with their lives from native South African armed robbers.

So you don't know the immigrants were employed by the South Africans? You think the men behind the business will be with them in the mines? How naive can you be.

The stat just shows every normal organisation structure with the supervisors (SAns) only a few while labourers (immigrants) are many.

Do you know that even while trapped in the mines, there was racketeering of supplies by the men in charge.
