I feel the doctor had a mental problem which led to his wife divorcing him and the magistrate denying him access to his own children. There's something the storyteller doesn't want us to know.

It makes no sense that a magistrate that asked a man to pay $15k every month in child support doesn't want him to see the same children. I maintain that this is a single story; the storyteller is doing so to attract public sympathy.

As someone who has been in the USA for over 6 years now, and know this family, the man deserves everything. I have zero empathy for me. If he were to be my brother, he still deserves it. Women are humans too and deserves to be treated right. The woman even gave him an option of going back to Nigeria for a while or getting another space so they see how to resolve the issue with time and he said instead of leaving for Nigeria, he’ll get a divorce.
