Presidential aide, Daniel Bwala, engaged in a heated exchange with a TV anchor at Arise Television, Rufai Oseni, during a live interview after being questioned about his decision to serve in the same government he once criticised.

During the interview on Tuesday, Oseni asked Bwala why he chose to align with the current administration under President Bola Tinubu despite his previous loud criticism.

In response, Bwala fired back, saying, “Don’t ask me questions like I’m a secondary student.”

The tense moment came as Oseni pressed further on whether Bwala’s decision was driven by political convenience.

However, the presidential aide defended his stance, stating that his service in the government was based on conviction and a desire to contribute meaningfully.

My decision to serve is based on national interest, not personal gain. People evolve, perspectives change, and governance is about making an impact,” Bwala added.

The exchange has since sparked reactions across social media, with some supporting Oseni’s line of questioning while others criticised Bwala’s response as dismissive.

An X user with @MezieAbi, Mezie Abia, said, “Daniel Bwala is a shameless man who speaks from both sides of the mouth. He’s in the league of Reno Omokri and FFK who can even sing the devil’s praises as long as they’ll have some crumbs to feed on from the devil.

“Daniel Bwala called Tinubu unprintable names on this platform, today, he’s shamelessly defending all the unprintable things he called Tinubu just this yesterday. Reno Omokri called Tinubu a drug lord who must be stopped and even led a protest against Tinubu in London, today, Reno Omokri is defending every single name he called Tinubu just yesterday.

“Femi Kayode called Tinubu names and even mocked Tinubu’s teeth, today, Tinubu is using the same poisonous teeth to cut the National cake for FFK and of course, he still shamelessly swallows the cake. Men with no ounce of integrity.”

In another post directed at Oseni, another user simply identified as Akereyejo (@Palermo_seun) cautioned the Arise broadcaster to uphold professionalism in the discharge of his duties.

He tweeted, “As a journalist, you should be objective in your questions because the goal is to inform the public about government policies. However, he barely gathers any useful information from his interviews, as he is more focused on entertaining his viewers.”

In another post, Sola Ogunlola (@sola_ogunlola) said, “But you know every journalist can’t be slaves to the politicians. Any public office holder that can’t be squeezed is not ready to serve.”

A tweep by AnzehAjose (@anzehnangah) stated that “Bwala’s only response to this was that he was in the opposition, which is why he criticised. He had no conviction in what he said then and has no conviction in what he is saying now. What else do we need to know that these politicians have no principles or ideologies? Selfish people.”
Olanrewaju Michael (@iwologbon) said, “Some things are better left unsaid. The same person he criticised finds him worthy of appointment into an important role, why make it sound like it’s supposed to be a death sentence to take such an appointment? There are other issues to discuss about. Rufai can do better, Fr."

In all fairness, Daniel Bwala has answered this very same question numerous times across all major television media outlets in Nigeria. I wonder why Rufai is bringing it up again? Is Rufai incapable of asking intelligent questions on Government policy directions? Na wa!

Anytime Wendell Simlin hear "Rufai Oseni" or "El-Rufai", him BP dey rise above 200mmHg.

There's this confidence and assurance I have in me that the incumbent president will lose the 2027 elections. Therefore, here is a reminder that he has less than 837 days to pack his kaya out of Aso Rock

What is unintelligent in asking him how he suddenly did a 360 by working with and for the same man he castigated and scorned to he high heavens?

It's a matter of integrity and character and nation building needs people with character. People who say something and stand by it.

So, the question by Oseni was apt.

Interviews are not supposed to make the interviewee comfortable, rather it's supposed to get difficult answers out of them.

I was dressed to go out this morning when Rufai announced that Bwala was coming onboard, I have to suspend my going out to watch.

It was indeed a shameful outing for Daniel Bwala. The once bold and fierce Bwala was looking like a lamb.He left the critical questions asked and was attacking Arise for giving Wike an award.

Today I really believed Daniel Bwala's quote that your brain works well untill you join APC.

He really proved that quote beyond all reasonable doubt today.

Are you for real? Do you know the meaning of interview? Or interviews in your opinion should be about handling a script, prerecord and then edit it as it's done to Buhari and Tinubu?

Rufai sef!!

1. He said 2013 and he did not want to admit.
2. He was trying to be controlling his guest.
3. He already formed an opinion about the man, so why the question again.
4. He does not take correction.

I just saw the interview. Here are the things to note:

1. It comes with age. Those who like Rufai's style are typically young people who want their voices heard. They want gragra and see Rufai as someone who speaks truth to power. They think he is bold. True, Rufai will call you out and I like some of what he does but it can be irritating and that's not what a professional does. Those who don't like him think he is a small boy but he's been on air for a long time and he is good but he has his emotions hovering what he does. I follow him on VOP too so I know he is a brilliant guy but when you bring a guest to your show, there are 2 things you don't do. Don't stop them from responding. We want to hear from them, not you. The second is to not to ask long questions that are opinions. Once you give your opinions, you are already influencing their response.

When I saw the interview, I was somehow disappointed because the people who think Bwala was roasted are behaving like kids. In the scheme of things, Bwala cannot make any significant changes in Tinubu's government. He's a spokesman. This is the same way people wanted so much from Abati who was SA Media and not a cabinet member who can order his boss to do things. Nigerians are always looking for who will die for them in the battle they should fight for themselves. It's not Rufai's place to fight your battle. As a journalist,I was annoyed he did not take advantage of educating Nigerians on what this current administration is doing so that Bwala can make a fool of himself. You don't need to embarrass him on air because he changed ship, what you should do is to ask him questions that will make him look foolish when he is answering. You have not won anything because politicians have no shame.

Allow them to fool themselves. Play the clip of before and after and watch how they sweat. I think Rufai should let his guests talk and stop lecturing us. If you want to ask a question, go straight to it. Don't start lecturing us for 2 mins before asking a question. Maybe bachelorhood is why he's like this but he can do better and stop trying to win every fight. Just let your guests fool themselves with tactical questions. It's because of your style they set trap for you on that BRT lane and you too see that no one is infallible. None of us is perfect, keep speaking truth to power but be tactical in how you do your job Rufai and you'll stand out. Many have come before you and many will be after you but be careful of those people who want you to sacrifice your life for them and hiding behind buttons online. Do your job well.

I would rather take 10 Mazi Nnmadi Kanus serious than pay attention to this Bwala guy. This man will use his mouth to either destroy his master or lose his job. If we are to take Tinubu's jokes seriously, they should at least come from career showmen and comedians not from Bwala na. It's not funny.
