Why Did God Slay Onan After He Spilled His Seed On The Floor? by judewrites: 7:46am On Feb 16 |
📖 Genesis 38 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ⁸ And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. ¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also. In the Old Testament God gave His people some laws concerning the discharge of semen from a man. (Leviticus 15:16-18) According to these laws: 👉Anytime a man discharges his semen outside procreation (with his wife) he is considered unclean. 👉Any type of surface a man's semen falls upon is considered unclean. 👉When a man is in the process of procreation (with his wife) and he discharges his semen externally, both of them are unclean. From these laws, we can see how sacred/sacrosanct man's semen is to God. God ordained that man's semen should be utilized in procreation (with His wife) and not discharged carelessly/anyhow like in the case of Onan. God killed Onan because he in outright disobedience, desecrated his semen by pouring it out on the floor instead of procreating with Tamar. (As custom then allowed it to raise children to represent his dead brother) The major purpose of a man's semen is for procreation; to produce children on earth: 📖 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. — Psalms 112:2 The semen of man is full of supernatural creative energy from God. It can create life therefore it is highly valuable in the spiritual realm. This is why the more a man practices semen retention, (with bible reading/prayer) the more supernaturally creative he becomes like God Himself. (Hebrews 11:3) The devil and his cohorts also seek semen to create life/exercise power in the demonic realms. In God's perspective, a man's semen is LIFE and can create LIFE; therefore it shouldn't be treated with levity like it's done today with many through masturbation, MouthAction, homosexuality, fornication, etc Unfortunately, the free availability of pornography/prostitution has misled much men in freely desecrating their semen attracting the wrath of God: 📖 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men... — Romans 1:18 We are under the dispensation of grace by the blood🩸of Jesus, that's why God's wrath hasn't been fully manifested yet. But grace period will be over soon. 53 Likes 13 Shares

Abeg which kind custom is that for a brother to sleep with his brother's widow to produce offspring for him even if he doesn't want to? Na by force? And it's not only Onan! The father later slept with the same woman pretending as an harlot and she got pregnant. He wanted to punish her untill he realised he was the culprit. God punished the sinful first son with death! God punished the second with death! The father committed adultery and incest but was forgiven! How is such fair? 57 Likes 4 Shares |

It had nothing to do with Onan spilling his seed, and the verse in question had nothing to do with masturbation (and no, I am not excusing masturbation...especially as I have never engaged in it, because quite frankly it does not make sense). Onan was supposed to marry his late brother's wife, and under the customs of that time, the first child he had with his wife would be counted as his brother's child (strange to us, but in a society with high child mortality, and a concern over keeping lineages alive...). Onan refused to do that because (as the verses imply)...he hated his brother Er. So, out of bitterness, he denied Er THE RIGHT TO KEEP his lineage alive. Essentially, what Onan also was doing was 1. Denying Tamar the right to have a child...in a society where barreness was a BIG STIGMA. (See how Jacob, Onan's grandpa, wife Rachel felt about having no kids...and later on Hannah. And even Sarah, Onan's great-great grandmother). 2. Essentially telling his father that he wanted both his and Er's inheritance...ie greed. If he had done what he was supposed to do, then when Judah died, his (Onan's) firstborn son would have gotten Er's portion of the inheritance. By having no kids, he gets a dobule portion. 3. Essentially commiting an injustice to his late brother and dishonoring his memory. Thus..as the bible put it in Genesis 38 vs 8-10 8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death also So, nothing to do with seed or with masturbation as the OP thinks it does. At its base it is a story about how harmful greed and resentment can be. And how wickedness also can provoke resentment (Er is described as a wicked man, so it is obvious that he was wicked to his two younger brothers, breeding anger and resentment). MODIFIED Still on point 2...I also suspect that Onan's actions implied that he was waiting for his father to die, so that he could then inherit Er's inheritance and his, and then marry anyone he wanted. Again, self centeredness. Also, I have seen some grumbles about Judah suffering no consequences for eventually sleeping with Tamar (yes, he was decieved into it, but if he had no roving eyes, .). I don't think the bible approves of the man's actions...it just shows that if Er had not been wicked, or Onan had put aside bitterness and done his duty, Judah sleeping with Tamar would have never arisen. 252 Likes 24 Shares |

According to these laws: First off why what you have written is a lie Lev.15.16 "Whenever a man has an emission of semen, he must wash his entire body, and he will remain ceremonially defiled until evening. It doesn't matter how he released his sperm, be it masturbation or during sex, he is unclean till evening. Not that the laws of uncleanliness matter anymore seeing Jesus has set us free from those laws and has cleansed us. But you twist the scriptures for your own message and purpose. Then you lie that, "God killed Onan because he in outright disobedience, desecrated his semen by pouring it out on the floor instead of procreating with Tamar." Whereas God killed him for his selfish wickedness. You do not understand the law nor do you know God. Because if you did you wouldn't write such Lev.15.18 - After having sexual intercourse, both the man and the woman must bathe, and they will remain defiled until evening. Did you even read the verses you quoted. Ah you are an example of why those who attend church must READ whatever is been quoted Gen.38.9 - 10 But Onan was not willing to have a child who would not be his own heir. So whenever he had intercourse with Tamar, he spilled the semen on the ground to keep her from having a baby who would belong to his brother. But the LORD considered it a wicked thing for Onan to deny a child to his dead brother. So the LORD took Onan's life, too. And Abutwins, this is what is written Gen.38.7 But Er was a wicked man in the LORD's sight, so the LORD took his life. 74 Likes 5 Shares |

God did not slay anyone.. Inspired humans wrote the best selling books and a few greedy other humans in power converted it to a tool to enslave mankind and deprive people of freedom Anyone who exhibit emotions like anger is human so therefore saying God Slayed man is saying God was angered and like most humans couldn't control the nature God can never be man who has emotions. Probably you should read the Bible as a book of wisdom instead of a book of religion 22 Likes 2 Shares |
