It is clear you went through school but school didn't go through you. Remember a student obeys whatsoever rule the school sets whther they like it or not. The lecturer has the right to do so as long as it is within the school vicinity.

She is long gone. It is the mother, a lecturer in the same school, that I am worried about.

Instead of hiding her face in shame, she is justifying the outrageous behaviour of an untrained and delinquent child.

The incident occurred when Dr. Okoye excused himself to pass through a hallway where the student was recording a TikTok video. Enraged by the interruption, she attacked him physically, an act that has since sparked widespread condemnation.

In a letter signed by ASUU-UNIZIK Chairman Kingsley Ubaoji and Secretary Joseph Onyejiaka, the union praised Dr. Okoye for his professionalism, stating:

“ASUU wishes to commend Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies for his exemplary display of maturity and civility in the face of the recent violent assault on him by a female student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious, a student of the Department of History and International Studies.

Dr. Okoye’s restraint and composure in the aftermath of the incident are a testament to his character and professionalism. His actions have not only brought honour to himself but also to our union and the university community at large.”

The union also expressed gratitude to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for his swift and decisive response to the matter, which included immediate disciplinary action against the student.

ASUU reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of lecturers while advocating for a safe and respectful academic environment.

The lecturer doesn't have any fault in that incident as far as I'm concerned. Moulding character of students is part of his job as a lecturer and that is why university degrees are awarded to those found worthy in CHARACTER and learning. Him trying to confiscate her phone was a disciplinary step towards correcting her for the manner she talked to him.

The girl should have simply handed the phone to him and thereafter go and apologize profusely to him and get her phone back.
