One of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen, Atalanta’s coach criticises Lookman. Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has strongly criticised Ademola Lookman’s penalty-taking abilities following the team’s 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League knockout round play-offs. The Nigerian forward, who had earlier scored Atalanta’s only goal in the match, missed a crucial penalty that could have given his side a chance to fight back. Speaking after the match on Tuesday, Gasperini did not hold back in his assessment of the player’s decision to take the spot-kick. “Ademola Lookman is one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen,” Gasperini said. The Atalanta boss revealed that Lookman took the ball despite other designated takers being available. “He wanted to take the penalty after scoring a goal. He took the ball despite Retegui and De Keteleare being available to take it… I didn’t like what Lookman did,” Gasperini added. The missed penalty proved costly as Atalanta failed to overturn their deficit, resulting in their elimination from the competition. This oyinbo people are just ungrateful sometimes. Even if you want to criticize your player, do it in private. Talk to him one on one, don't just go to a press conference and start criticizing your star player publicly. Anyone can miss a Penalty. Messi have missed a penalty. C. Ronaldo have missed a penalty. Hazard have missed a Penalty. Neymar have missed a penalty. Mbappe have missed a penalty. Kane have missed a penalty Anyone can miss a Penalty. This is a player that won a Europa League for you. That Penalty miss was critical in the match, but the coach's remark is very unprofessional. After scoring the 1st goal coming from the bench, he was too eager to go for glory as the man that rescued Atalanta, like he did in Europa Final. Unfortunately he lost. Yes the coach has the right to criticise him & even punish him but a coach should take responsibility for a Team's failure & not single out a player in public. Even the designated penalty taker could have also missed. Or he could have also scored & Atalanta still lose the game. What about the team going down 3-0 in 1st half, without Lookman? If there is a designated penalty kick player and lookman shoved him aside to take d penalty then he deserves what ever is coming to him. If the consequence of his action is the coach's public out burst so as to deter any future occurrence so be it. One thing with Nigerians is that we don't like to take responsibility for our actions especially bad actions. We immediately become sentimental and put emotions into the matter. See one guy up there saying lookman wom Europe for Atlanta. Football is a team sport. Except he was goal keeper, defender etc together on that same day.
