You can see where he said Lookman decided to take the penalty. There are some instances where some players would stubbornly refuse to give the penalty to the designated penalty taker to take the penalty.

It still means he doesn't have control over the team he is managing.

Make we hear word. If you're not the designated penalty taker and you insist on taking it in such a crucial game, then you MUST score. The criticism is justified.

This same idiot of a coach left lookmaan and another fantastic player on the bench during a cup final some weeks ago and got dragged by fans for leaving out lookmaan until the dying minutes.

Now he wants to use psychology to make it seem like lookmaan isn't good

Lookman had been injured for weeks ...u don't start a player that just got back from injury...he even took a risk playing him yesterday

Unfortunately you can't always control your players from the sidelines. A similar thing happened in a Chelsea game where Jackson and Madueke were fighting to take a penalty instead of the usual taker Palmer.

The coach is just using lookman as a public scapegoat... penalty taking is 50-50.

Ademola came in the 2nd half, scored and turned the match around. It was unfortunate that he missed, but even Italy's great Roberto baggio missed the last kick at WORLD CUP 1994 final.

The reality is that Lookman is actually a terrible penalty taker. His penalty record is poor. You can check the stats.

Also, like many of us, we would have preferred the coach did it in the dressing room but yeah he said it out because of this....

He wanted to take the penalty after scoring a goal. He took the ball despite Retegui and De Keteleare being available to take it… I didn’t like what Lookman did,” Gasperini added

From the above, you can see that there are better takers in Retegui and De keterelare but Lookman forced the issue and the coach was upset. He should have done so in the dressing room but Lookman should've allowed better takers to take the pen because he's poor at it.

All Lookman needs to do now is the manage the situation better and not burn bridges like Osimhen. We have to be objective.

He didn't score that's what happened... if its 2 to beat one , u are expected to draw the last defender b4 passing the ball to ur second to make the goal easy cos thats the best option, but if u decide to go solo, u must score that goal cos if u miss it, the blast u will get from teammates and fans will be massive , even if u are their top player..... he wasn't the best option for the penalty, but his arrogance dint let him leave it for the teams penalty taker ....

People will not be objective because he's our player. Lookman had Retegui Nd Decatelre on the pitch who are better takers but rushed the pen and missed.

Only issue here is the coach going public. Lookman deserved to be reprimanded but in private.

The loss really got to that coach.

The coach is angry because he missed, period. Also a spot kick taker is the designated player to take penalties. All clubs have one. At United, it's Fernandez, at Chelsea, it's Palmer, Liverpool, Salah, Barka, Lewa. Etc.

Lookman is a third choice taker at Atalanta. In addition to this, his penalty record is pretty poor.

The only issue here is the coach scolding him in public

You are not ser ious, Lookman wasn't supposed to take that PK, they have designated players for that but because he has a motive, maybe to have a hattrick or score decisive goals which may help the team qualify and subsequently win him praises from different places(this actually is the main reason why he arrogantly denied those designated to take it from taking it), he did not allow any of them to take it and they can't fight it because of many reasons.
Had it been they willingly allowed him to take it and it is not him who arrogantly went for it, it will be another case.

And since he missed it, the coach is angry that he broke the team's working protocol which cost the team the qualification, so what are you saying?

One thing with you people is you all like to live in denial.

Listen, the man wouldn't have complained like this had it been Lookman is one of the team's designated penalty takers.

This coach has always been overly critical of Lookman, there were times he pulled him off cos he wasn't contributing to defense, he had also dropped him to the bench (his best player) for no just reason!
