Tohsynetita1,If na so, I suppose to dey give people injection because I sabi shook injection lol π. But no be so now! If I get passion, I need to go study and get degree and license π.
For every one unqualified teacher wey dey teach because dem think dem fit or dem don be told say dem fit teach, there be 10 qualified education graduates wey take pain go get qualification for am, but dem dey deprive of good salary because dem go dey willing to do dem job for half or less than half of wetin dem suppose pay dem πΈ.
And to make matter worse, you go hear something like "see am, him wey study education no fit get job, me wey no finish secondary school (or no read education) I dey teach" π. Forgetting say graduate don put in lot of work to become who him be and suppose get good pay.
I no dey dispute say we no get people wey study education wey no fit defend dem result, but dat one no be privilege or right for uneducated person to start teach π
ββοΈ. I dey talk from experience π.
Most time when I enter new school, I go see fellow teacher wey be graduate, but no read education, dey write for board, na internet grammar dem dey use teach learners π. Dem dey use construction wey no correct, no punctuation, no paragraphs π€¦ββοΈ. Dem sometimes teach outside scope of lesson, wey be against ethics of profession π
ββοΈ.
Dat's why I dey say dem need to be groomed, get educational qualification for am, before dem start teaching π. E go give dem good foundation to add to dem passion β€οΈ.
When you get qualification, you go know more about wetin you dey do π, and parents sef go appreciate your work verbally and with funds πΈ. Your employer go quick increase your salary π.
Teaching get ethics, principles guiding am π, not just coming to stand to talk π£οΈ cho cho cho,(no disrespect to intelligent graduates but there are rules to everything). There be certain things you no suppose do for lesson period, like teaching outside scope of lesson π
ββοΈ, because dat's what I dey see most unqualified teachers dey do π€¦ββοΈ. I no blame dem though π
ββοΈ.
To dem, dem want teach children all dem have for dem head one day π€―, sometimes because as dem dey teach, dem no fit control euphoria of moment π. It's not funny! You canβt compare professions in that way, some professions are talent base, didnβt you study skilled, unskilled and semi skilled labour in your Economic text book while in Secondary school? Do you need much training to help someone carry load , you need so much skill to wash plates, you need so much skill to iron clothes, you canβt compare years someone will spend to be expert in laundry to years he will spend in learning tailoring, mechanic, Photography. Thatβs what we are pointing at, you might not need any certification to play football, to sing, to speak, to dance, to run, etc. Teaching is like that. Itβs those that are talented, passionate and skilled about it that will enjoy it more. The certification is just a format, because itβs what they are, you donβt need to tell a rabbit to run, thatβs how it is. When comparing professions, you canβt classify them in a class, their are some profession that everybody on earth can do but they might not only be interested in it. Do you know a gate man only opens and closes gate, who canβt do that. So, thatβs how itβs, some professions require you going to school to acquire the skill but some, you donβt need to go to any school for certification, you can even do it without knowing what a school is. |

Make class no dey boring why we dey wait ! Let me share this too to motivate someone who wants to continue their studies to get PGDE.
When I was in secondary school I was able to teach the slow learners when my teacher asked me to do so as a brilliant lad those days π€ so growing up I knew that I could teach but that is not enough to think that I can now stand in front of a classroom to do the job of a teacher who was actually trained for that π
ββοΈ. I never intended to study education but as would I say, as fate and destiny would have it π I studied it and I had to develop the passion for it thereafter π₯. I found out that teaching is not just about coming to stand to talk in the class π€ it involves classroom management π it involves time management β° and it involves instructional aids and strategies etc π.
In the aspect of classroom management π how do you handle an unruly student π€― when you are teaching? You are in front of the class and somebody is disturbing at the back π how do you handle that? π€ Passion cannot teach you that π your passion only makes you explain something for the person just like the slow learners I explained the subjects to π that I was asked by my teacher. I could do that π but I wouldn't know how to handle a class (classroom management) if I'm not taught π so passion will not be enough to handle classroom management π
ββοΈ you need to know what to do when you see students disturbing at the back π. If you were not trained for it you go get angry and if you don't know what to do, you fit kpai person o out of anger π. As a trained teacher, we know it is normal for children to disturb (there are over 101 ways to handle that that I won't say here π€) that is why PGDE is important π.
Number two β° the time management β° you need to know that you are not supposed to teach outside the topic π some people might be teaching some the SS one students π and immediately because you are carried away that they are beginning to understand you π you start to introduce something in SS three π or start talking about it π€― no, you are wasting time β° another teacher has something to come and also impact π so that is what you also learn when you take the time to study education π and that is why the PGDE is also important π.
Then lastly π we have the instructional aids and strategies because of time frame π how do you teach a large crowd of people π₯ do you use the lecture mode π’ the demonstrative mode π¨ and other modes of teaching π you need to know that also π€ π so it's not just about coming to stand to teach π you also know how to use instructional strategies π when coming into the class π it's not just coming to stand and talk π¬ we have instructional aids π¨ where you might have to draw some of the things you want to start teaching them π you want to teach parts of a computer π₯οΈ and maybe the school doesn't have computer. In education π you are being taught that you can draw the mouse π±οΈ the computer on a cardboard π¦ as teaching aids and come with it π¦ the learners will be able to learn from that π€. If they come across a mouse they would be able to identify it π±οΈ.
So the instructional strategies again π also how do you teach those slow learners π what works for the fast learners might not work for the slow learners π€ that is where education comes in π. You learn that you can also use their classmates π« their peers π« to also impact knowledge π€ to tell them to do this π, to go and learn from your peers π« and because of they play with them π€ΈββοΈ they are familiar with them π« they will not be scared to learn from their peers π« they will also be able to grab what their friend is telling them π€ quick and learn π. You also have to monitor the progress of the task given to the brilliant friend π€. There are so many ways to help a slow learner learns and that is why educational background or PGDE is important π. Thank you π.

Teaching should be passion over certification You're absolutely right. I am an educationist, but I didn't study education and if I would blow my trumpet, I would accord myself the title of the most productive and pacesetting staff member at my school Moving on, when you take out passion and will from a profession, what is left is chaff. I'm not even looking to run a PGDE because it might be counter productive. I'm however, looking to sign up for a PhD in either educational psychology or special needs education. Bagging either of these would push the bar of my achievable goals and milestone higher 1 Like |

What makes you think you can teach a person how to teach? Is this not the singular reason why quite a number of educationists are not educators? From my little experience, these are the tenets you would need to be a dexterous 21st century teacher. 1. Passion: If a field is not of interest to you, you may struggle to cope. Whatever you struggle to do can never be good enough. This explains why some non-educationists turn out to be better teachers than their counterparts. 2. Flexibility: It is based on this premise that I put it to you that one can never be taught to be a teacher. Information is a living thing (as postulated by Ranganathan) this means that there's always a paradigm shift in what is tenable and what is obtainable. Thus, a good teacher constantly researches on what is tenable around the world and also figures if that can fit into his classroom. What level of flexibility can you gain from learning how to be a teacher. Is it from the lecture notes that are as old as the teacher? 3. Stratification: When it comes to teaching, there is no one size fits all. You literally have to study the environment (by this, I mean your learners) and devise a teaching methodology that suits each and every strata. This is where research comes in. You literally do no know it all and so you widen the scope of your knowledge by researching. 4 Research: What is a teacher without research. The list is endless, but let's stop here. 1 Like |

Ireport85: Make class no dey boring why we dey wait !
As a trained teacher, we know it is normal for children to disturb (there are over 101 ways to handle that that I won't say here π€) that is why PGDE is important π.

nice write up boss ..just wanted to add a little generally ...in this country alot of people have the passion to teach but the case of " a teachers reward is in heaven" has made many just give up on doing the right thing ... For e.g a school near my school threatened their staff that if they don't do holiday lessob for ss3 and jss3 in this one month holiday, then they won't be paid ...how do you expect someone like that to put in his or her best in the classroom .. Or are we going to ignore the fact that schools now don't employ for your specialty anymore ...you just accept the job and they pack subjects and give you because most people don't have a choice especially private schools ... Let's be honest teaching takes grace of God now ..because the motivation us not there ... Then in the aspect of class control ..I used to be in a school where you can flog the hell out of a child and it's allowed ..infact the kids parents even dash you money that you are doing well .. Now I work where you can't touch a child and the kids know you can't touch them and they even use it against you ...it still took the grace of God to adapt to the change and look for other methods to both manage the class and pass on information. Generally in education, theres no formula ..we have to adapt to changing times . Not to mention that it's as if kids don't want to learn again ...so many distractions.. and the leakage of external papers not helping matters. It's well with us Sha ... Let's just persevere and try to make our mark on earth ... 'a teachers reward is in heaven ' 2 Likes |

Dn3k9 ,Your observations are a masterful dissection of the teaching profession in our country, revealing the intricate complexities and challenges that educators face π. The phrase "a teacher's reward is in heaven" is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and dedication required of teachers, often without adequate recognition or compensation π.
The threat of unpaid salaries for conducting holiday lessons is a draconian measure that undermines the very foundation of the education system πΈ. How can teachers be expected to deliver high-quality instruction when they're not even assured of receiving their rightful compensation? π This, coupled with the disturbing trend of schools hiring teachers without regard for their specialization, creates an environment where educators are forced to adapt and improvise, often to the detriment of their own professional development π€·ββοΈ.
Your assertion that teaching requires a divine spark is a profound insight that resonates deeply π. The lack of motivation and support for teachers is a glaring issue that must be addressed if we hope to revitalize the education system π€¦ββοΈ. Classroom management, too, is a delicate balancing act, requiring a deep understanding of pedagogy, psychology, and human relationships π.
Your ability to adapt and innovate in the face of these challenges is a testament to your exceptional teaching skills and dedication π. Education is an ever-evolving field that demands flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to challenge conventional wisdom π.
In a world where students are increasingly distracted and disengaged, your commitment to making a positive impact is a beacon of hope π. Your insights are a treasure trove of wisdom, and it's clear that "a teacher's reward is in heaven" π. Your thoughts are worth their weight in gold.Bravo, keep it up π«. 3 Likes 1 Share |
