Hello.

Am a writer. I love writing books. But i dont know how to start?
I have the idea of the book in my head, but how can i go about it?

And secondly, how do you publish?

First, it is "I'm" or "I am a writer". Work a little more on that as a Writer that you say you are. You don't expect people to be engaged when you start off wrongly. Cheerios

Glimpsetv:
In a trending video, a Nigerian banker has opened up about his frustrations with working in the banking sector.

The man revealed that he has been employed in a commercial bank for 16 years, yet has nothing tangible to show for all his years of service.

Expressing his disappointment, he said: “I’m not too happy because it feels like I’ve been used for the past 16 years. I’ve been doing my work diligently — look at the time I’m leaving for work now, as usual. It’s as if I’ve been used all these years and there's nothing to show for it.”

He went on to advise parents whose children may be considering a career in commercial banking to think carefully, stressing that working in Nigerian commercial banks is not for the faint-hearted, especially for junior staff. “They will suck you like an orange — suck you dry and then throw you away,” he lamented.

While acknowledging that some people are thriving in the commercial banking sector, he claimed that such individuals often have powerful connections. “It’s those who know the right people that are making it big,” he added.

In an attempt to console himself, he expressed hope for a better future. “But I know that as today marks my sixteenth year in the bank, God will show me favor — I’m confident of that,” he declared.

He concluded by saying that if anyone could help him secure a new job, he would gladly leave the banking industry, emphasizing that he’s not ready to die working in a commercial bank.

In a very funny twist, while trying to round off his speech, something amusing happened. Being the early hours of the morning, as he walked along the road, chickens nearby began making their usual morning noises, interrupting his recording. In a hilarious moment, he commanded the chickens to stop making noise, speaking in Yoruba dialect.

His lamentation has since drawn mixed reactions across various social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly known as Twitter).

And in all things said in the Video he never mentioned one (1) goal or aim or ambition or yardstick to measure his definition of progress or “making it in life” as Nigerians popularly say.

Is he referring to the long work hours and the Lagos Traffic situation ? The banks did not create Lagos the way it is. If work starts by 7:30 am unfortunately you have to be there by that time, and if it means waking up by 4:00 am, to be there, then it isn’t the Bank that caused that. When you close by 4:00 pm to the public and you have to stay back to balance cash accounts and call-over deposit slips to resolve issues , these are the things you signed up for in banking.

If he is referring to other aspects of progress like Property, Investments, Standard of Living, etc, It would take me to see his income, financial habits and goals/aspirations for me to accept his claims in the video.

What does he earn ?

What does he spend on ?

What does he intend to achieve that he hasn’t been able to achieve for 16 years? Or at least working towards achieving it?

Has he explored other skills and side hustle/businesses for additional income /as extra income streams?

When you work for an organization they use you. When you work for yourself, you use yourself too. You take solace in the fact that you now call the shots and you are building something for yourself. It takes dedication, grit, perseverance, belief and immense luck to do so.

The man is telling the truth. Working as a junior staff member in a commercial bank in Nigeria can be akin to modern slavery, since junior staff, often on contract, can work for over 15 years without job security.

Ok then dont depend on ur bank doing well and for the past 16 years u are still going to the same bank to work. U see how u peopIe are ungrateful fooIs. People that can't operate POS are saying for 16 years u have nothing to show for working

we don't look what we've been through or go through. There are lots of people suffering silently, some are battling depression, yet it can't tell or show on their faces. Even hunger doesn't show on some people faces, that's how they are wired, it's genetics.

I've worked in a couple of Nigerian banks and fintech companies as software engineer and I don't even know why someone will be working for a single organization for a straight five years when you're not a stakeholder, more so, a job that's not fulfilling. The best way to increase your salary or find another purposeful career is to change your job.
I see people that stay very long on jobs as unambitious and dull, like civil servants. Is it that they're too comfortable and decided to stay stagnant instead of moving to a better organization?

It's two ways. There are always two ways to grow wealth. Spend more or learn to save more. Some people can earn less than someone else but they are masters of saving and getting a good deal from their purchases. So it's not only bigger salary that can help

That's the similar story with almost everyone in Nigeria o. Mine pained me pass Sha. Just when my income increased by 600% and I was happy that my profession has finally paid off after many years, then....
"by 600%"??
For real?

Yes. I was earning around 150k like few years back. Do the Maths for 600%. Yes. I thought things were getting better, but what I have now is not giving me what the 150k was offering me back then. It's a pity.

Lie. Hunger and suffering will show on you. Genetics can't mask it.
This guy looks fresh. He doesn't look like the average suffering Nigerian hustler you see on the streets of Lagos. He looks well taken care of. And young too - he must be in his 40's but looks 30's

Okay. I get that inflation part. It's just the 600% I wanted to know.
You get a 600% salary increase /promotion??
In one leap?

The nature of my job involved full time and part time. My full time salary increased because I got better job offer and my part time jobs increased too. Eventually I can boast of a 600% rise in my monthly income if I compare my earning now to that of 5 years back. But I fare better then than now because of this mad inflation.

If you stay under bank AC 12 hours per day week in week out you will be fresh. If you have a fat parent, you will look chubby. But hunger does not care about you. It will humble your chubbiness and fresh face.

So you mean there are no fat poor people. That's not true. I've seen many fat poor people in this life. Iya Shina was very fat in those days, but she was poor. Mama Chinanu too, during my childhood days, not to mention oga Alaba.

What has poverty to do with fatness. In a place like US it is the poor that are usually fat and shapeless - from ignorantly eating junk crap.
There are no fat STARVING people. Know the difference. See my photo above

Even in civil service, as a junior staff, it is difficult to make ends meet.

All you have to do is write out what you said is in your head. Everybody knows Amazon KDP, and that's where to self-publish your book

Of course, you can do that too if that's what you want. But if you do do, only Nigerians may read the book unless it's an international publishing house.

I checked Amazon, and most of the people who ordered my book are from the USA and Europe, though it could be because there are no native Amazon sites in Africa. I said so because someone contacted me from Malawi saying that he ordered my book.

4years in banking and I have a lot to show.

I learnt one secret and ever since then I haven't look back.

Is not about the number of years u spent there, but the experience u garnered and use for ur personal growth.

If u are not in the core management team of a bank, don't stay too long,if not u would be working and wasting away.

Remember, their loans is a big trap that can keep u in bondage unaware.

Be wise!
What do you mean by “core management team”?
