FEDERAL AIRPORTS AUTHORITY OF NIGERIA
PRESS RELEASE

18th April, 2025

AKANU IBIAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, ENUGU. TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR EMERGENCY RUNWAY REHABILITATION

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, for emergency runway repairs.

There is a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway. Hence, emergency repairs will be conducted on that portion of the runway from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025.

In compliance with Nigerian civil aviation regulations, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has, therefore, closed the runway during this period.

As part of FAAN's commitment to passenger safety and the modernisation of airport facilities, the runway will not be open for landings or takeoffs during the rehabilitation period.

FAAN appeals to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time. All flights to this airport will be diverted to nearby airports. We sincerely apologise for the late and unexpected notice regarding this closure.

FAAN — Safe Skies, Secure Airports, Seamless Travel.

Mrs Obiageli Orah
Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.

Of all the time in the year, they chose Easter - when a people who are predominantly Christians will be coming home to celebrate with their loved ones.

I'll always say that every citizen of a shithole country, both directly or indirectly, is a victim of it, including those who support stupid leaders and those who benefit from keeping it a dysfunctional contraption.

They had to wait for Air peace to complain first before doing what they ought to do.

Thank God for social media,we would have all been dead by propaganda grin tongue.

That is why airports should either be privatized or commercially run public enterprises to foster competition.

No high throughput business will afford a complete shut down for hours not to talk of days or weeks. They either create redundancies, get creative with running repairs or be on top of the preventive maintenance game.

That is belongs to government means a reroute to another 'franchise' which may be hundreds of kilometres away without regards for the convenience or economics
on their customers.

Government almost everywhere in the world are absolutely teriible at business.

Government has no business in business. No one can convince me otherwise. If anyone told me that lightning will strike twice on the third of the big three privatised industrial services sector, I will have doubted.

After the total collapse of NITEL/MTEL at the instance of competition from the likes of MTN and co. Dangote seems to be railroading NNPC and it's phantom refineries, the tail apparently waging the dog.
