Mathematicians In Industries by debanjo(m): 11:34am On Oct 22, 2007
Hello Nairalanders home and abroad,
Pls, am very furious about the importance of mathematicians(pure, applied, statistics and industrial) in the idustries i.e oil & gas, banking, consulting, auditing, marketing research, advertisement, e.t.c. house, let me have ur opinion on this.

Actually, i am a graduate of industrial mathematics from a Federal University in Nigeria, after graduation I've written several tests from almost all the industries mentioned above, got offers from banks, consulting and oil & gas. but as at now I work as a project analyst in a logistics company.

Feed me your own experience, Great Mathematicians,

that was a very good topic great dydx, however that kind of success comes with God's favour.i know of some mathematicians that are unemployed, they argue that companies tell them that their field is not versatile.i think a mathematician can work anywhere, thanks for the subject.

Hi People

I am a graduate of Mathematics from the University of Ibadan. There is a big misconception i will like to correct quickly before somepeople discourage their younger ones from studying Mathematics. Being a Mathematician carry with it a BIG PRIDE and Loads of Opportunities.

I have never been unemployed since the day i finished NYSC. I have changed 6 Jobs in 2 and a half years. The new company always want to steal me from the other one. This is because of favour , as well as the notion that since you are a mathematician, then you can be thought anything, absolutely anything and you will get good immediately.

Your analytical skills will help you learn and master any skill. Your Applied mathematics - Mathematical Modelling will help you model all manner of scenerios and predict possible outcomes.

Mathematics is life,

Mathematics is life,

Yes, you are correct. But how many people/companies have come to realise how significant mathematics and mathematicians are to them?? Just go ahead and get MSc in Statistics or Operations Research and make yourself more relevant.

Mathematicians are well respected people in US and UK. Every company there wants to employ people with mathematical skills, unlike Nigeria where people in the Arts and social sciences have upper hand in getting jobs.

The best job for mathematicians in Nigeria is teaching.

I salute the great mathematicians in da house,
first as a mathematician, it is expected that you should have some't readily available, unlike the book eng'r(sorry to say), we at anytime would rise to provide maths solutions,

we still use the mathematical model as platform/basis to address problems even verbal issues,
we identify, interprete, represent after asumptions ,test for conformity with reality then , i mean
Mathematics make us look at thing and represent them and
IT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THOSE THAT KNOWS THE VALUE OF MATHS PREFER MATHEMATICIANS.

AM STILL A CORPER IN WARRI,I HAVE APPLIED FOR MANY BANK JOB, AND
I HAVE BEEN CALLED IN SEVERAL INSTANCE,
I PASSED SOME I WAS ABLE TO FINISH AND WAS CALLED FOR INTERVIEW,IF NOT FOR THE NYSC CERTIFICATE.

ONCE YOU FACE ANY APTITUDE TEST,YOU ARE CONFIDENT.

NOW,ismael said we are good for teaching alone
i quite disagree cos
we lecture and most of us acquire more to worth travelling out to market our values (see yung lecturers in your univs)
we are needed in the Information technology filed in telecomms
we are wanted in banks
in aviation
oil and gas co.

we usually have upper hand
some end up as programmers
just name them

We are too valuable,plzzzzzzzzz

lekso ya too sii teashing

that is to say, if you teach, you don't seem to improve(academically and otherwise) but if you lecture, you are posed to young intellects i mean the jambites, undergraduates, your colleagues (that would bring new idea, challenges, alternative solutions, problems etc)then tell me how you wont develop and improve.
besides , young and ambitious lecturers step up ,polish themselves and before you know it,
they are into MTN,Celtel and glo companies probably travel overseas to acquire more.

mio wa argue BOBO yii jare ,ishe ni KOKO

ko soji are ee, ABI THIRD CLASS LO GBE JADE NII?

Greatest Mathematicians...i really commend evrybody's opinion concerning the subject matter. Before now,i used to think d career doesnt have a real life application during your first degree programme.i was tinkin its when one might hv gone for his or her masters programme thats when the real life application will begin to surfice. But from what i have seen so far in this platform,i must say am proud to have gone for that course

Mathematics is life,
At last, I found my role model. I am David, I am applying to Unibadan to study Mathematics (2015-2019). What advice can you give to me sir?

Hello guys, nice seeing Mathematicians here. If I hadn't studied Engineering I'd have opted for Mathematics! I aced all my Mat courses while @ school grin
For the younger ones still in school, you need to have great passion for numbers. I must say it's a versatile course 'cos you can fit in virtually in all sectors.
