As I type dis classics, I am having nostalgic feelings, at least if there is one thing am proud of its the great songs I was privileged to listen too when I was younger, in my own opinion, the following should be in the greatest Nigerian songs of all time, there are more but these are the few I can remember, I know some, but cant remember the artist, I think there should be a post where we can type the lyrics of songs we cant remember the artists, am sure fellow nairalanders will help out, but in d main time, look thru dis list, Happy 50th Anniversary in advance, we should have one on greatest shows, series and soap operas. Zombie - Fela Gentleman - Fela (Fela's songs in general) Omoge - Stella monye Aparo - Tunji Oyelana I love my country - Tunji Oyelana & Wole Soyinka Joromi - Victor Uwaifo Mammy water - Sir victor Uwaifo Osondi owendi - Osadebe Mi sisi - Mike Okri Time na Money - Mike Okri Sweet Mother - Prince Nico Mbarga Baby Jowo Taxi driver - Bobby Benson Eleda mi mo di e mu - Ik Dairo Omoge mi - Mike okri Ooye I wish u happy birthday (no bday was complete without dis song played) - Evi Edna Ogoli Okosi Orlando - Orlando Julius Asiko - Tina Fire in soweto Sonny Okosun Diana - Daddy Showkey Bolanle junior and Pretty La la le friday - Wale Thompson Iya mi - Christien essien Igbokwe Ijo shina - shina Peters Africalypso - Lagbaja Iyawo Asiko - Orlando Owoh Coolu Temper - Lagbaja One Love - Onyeka Owenu Make Nigeria Better KSA and Nigerian All stars Iwaju lokan mi - KSA Hit my Car - Ebenezer Obbey Beng Beng - Femi kuti Love me jeje - Seyi Sodimu Oruka - Sunny neji Ikebe - Sunny Neji Ma je ka ja - Tito Motherland - Sound sultan African Queen - Tu face Olufunmi - Styl plus Fire on the mountain - Asa Girl of my dreams - Age Beeka |

You people are too much! I am seeing songs that I had long forgotten on your lists, all the way to the Lijadu sisters! I am almost moved to tears. I recently went out of my way to get old Obey and Sunny songs Somebody even remembered this song when the going seems so tough, many many ppl will run away - cant rmbr the artist's name I never liked the song but it was everywhere! @Taliban Are into music? how could you remember all those beautiful songs? You will not believe that I was in the video of 'higher higher' and cannot remember the name of the girl that sang it too, I was surprised that you even remember it. People, please keep them coming |

Difficult one to compile as our country is an amalgamation of tribes with bias towards a musician of their kin. However some musicians did cross tribes and borders. They include: 1) Fela 2) Sonny Okosun 3) Bongos Ikwe 4)Prince Nico Mbarga 5)Victor Uwaifo 6)Bobby Benson 7)Majek Fashek Mike Okri 9)Chris Okotie 10) D banj 11) Tu Face Idibia The above is in no particular order, and are just the ones that come immediately to my mind. The likes of (to mention a few) Sunny Ade, Osadebe, Dan maraya Jos, and 9ICE who in their own right are great and do good music, are too regional to merit true inter tribal crossover. I say this as a Nigerian who has travelled and lived the length and breath of the country. Sunny Ade is unknown in parts of Iboland while he is revered in Yoruba land. Osadebe may be king in Iboland but in Bauchi state its more like " kai! Osadebe who?" There is also a North south divide. Most of the highlife greats like Cardinal Rex lawson, and Victor olaiya, while they would make the list in the south, are almost unknown north of the Niger benue river basin. I don talk finish be that so make una lamblast me! |
