It all depends I guess. From what people have posted, it is processed only after you get the baby's birth certificate which could be as early as a few days after birth to weeks. Then the passport should also take more or less time depending on what kind of expedited service you opt for. In general I'd say within a month u should get the passport. Just my thoughts though

Hello all, dis trend has been so educative,I have learnt a lot, my own situation is dat I applied for the visa in july and the consular issued me a 3months visa, she asked if I was pregnant and I said no of which I lied, because I didn't get all d enlightenment I have now...I had so much fears as to what to expect at POE but God made it all simple,I was given 6months by CBP...my cousin applied for the 'wic' benefit for me,which started immediately I got in aug. And I already applied for chips which am expecting their response...am in houston but all the info I got scares me a lot about renewal of the visa wen next I want to apply...
Now can anyone tell me if it'l come on their system at the embassy that I had a baby here in america automatically or will they only find out if I fill it in the application form that am travelling wit my american citizen baby? Secondly is dat since my cousin told me abt the chip benefit for unborn child, the only funds I have wit me is abt 2500, is there any other alternative apart from hosp birthing,so dat I can turn down the chip? And has anyone who lied abt being pregnant ever been lucky to have her visa renewed? I hope dis is attended to as soon as possible... Thanks

You decision is very dangerous and you risk being banned from the US for a long time if you apply for visa again especially from Nigeria. $2,500 is just too small to have a child in the US and also hope you don't have any complication because that will be a different ball game entirely.

renewal should not be a problem for you with this new dropbox system, just make sure you pay your bills completely and stay away from Medicaid! if you don't have enough money to pay, ask for a payment plan that allows you pay instalmentally (the down side is that this may include interest and will end up being far more expensive)

@Surety...$2500 is too small to cover all your birthing/ medical expenses in the US for the newborn. . . . In addition, you need to be sure of whatever program your cousin is applying for you (ie WIC program or chips whatever) because am not sure you're entitled to anything since you're neither a US legal resident nor citizen. This could work against you subsequently when you're applying for a visa renewal because they will find out eventually. On your next visa renewal, they'll ask you for details about your kids in the visa form (DOB,place of birth etc), which you're expected to fill and that is what might probably give you away.

The good thing is that you're in houston and it is fairly cheaper for birthing than a whole lot of other places. . . . You should have taken at least $5-6k along. Anyway, i wish you the very best and pray it all works out well for you eventually.

@Uchetobi . . Am not sure someone with a 3-month validity visa qualifies for the drop-box system. I stand to be corrected though but to the best of my knowledge, you're only qualified for dropbox if you're renewing a full 2-yr validity visa. Otherwise, you're back to one-on-one interviews. Abeg someone should correct me if am wrong oh, before am accused of spreading false information. . .cheesy

hi all,

i have been following this thread and i have some questions. i'm due feb. although i ave not gotten my visa yet, but im hopeful that i will get it since payin for my baby's birth is not really an issue for me. my problem is that, i really dont know how to go by this admission process, since everytime i call the hospitals they say i should contact my physician.

i want to pay for atleast/if posible the whole fee or half before i go for my interview. so what are the steps for me to get things moving?
1. after contacting the physician and he/she accepts to take me. whats next? how do i go by paying the hospital their bill?
2. i guess it will be easier if i go with a hospital that provide physician and i just pay them on their website? or what do you all suggest?
3. i have ruled out el paso. but im seriously considering MIHS Arizona, MrsBee and any other person with idea and how to go about Maricopa, please do let me know on the process.

Basically, what i need right now is how to go about getting a physician and paying for atleast all or half of the physician/hospital bills before i go for my interview.

thank you all. i ill appreciate any input.

Yes i had my baby in houston. . . I used West Houston Medical centre! Same hospital walmart talked about on this thread earlier. There are other hospitals you could use in that axis though. . .like Oakbend hospital which is around Richmond, Methodist women's hospital etc and all these still charge within the $5k-6.5k range all inclusive up till delivery (doctor+hospital) as i know people who have had their babies there. Please take note that the costs for the paediatrician and other tests for the baby post-delivery are not included in this estimate.

You're right. Drop box only applies to those with a full 2-year validity visa. I suggest Surety attempts to raise some more funds from friends/family in Nigeria and the US to fully settle her bills before leaving. It should make things a bit easier during her next visa interview.

Thank u all for responding to this issue,I have made up my mind to turn down the chip program and pay for the bills. Will be able to raise some extra cash since I'l be due in dec... Will probably use a birth centre as that's cheaper....
Will appreciate if anyone can recommend a low-cost birth center to me here in houston or any other advise is welcomed
I also googled the eligibillty for u.s renewal(drop box) and it didn't state any visa length/validity, only that it must be the same category of previous visa amongst other things which I am qualified. At least that's a relief to me.
Will keep u guys posted...

Hello @surety,Good luck in your endeavors over their, and good luck in your cash payment ,I believe that is the best chance you will have in renewing your visa ,make sure you try and pay all bills. And about the visa drop box option, @nikkygal is right am afraid, sorry to burst you bubbles. Drop box option is for applicants with previous 2 year multiple entry visa. The only way you could participate in the drop box option,is if your husband had a previous 2 year multiple and you can renew yours along side his own application. Your best option for verifying the info is the American Embassy website in Nigeria. Follow the link below.

I wish you the best Surety. Just to add to Babababy's post, not only do you require a 2 year visa to use the drop box option, also if you are renewing with a spouse that has a 2 year visa, both of you will be interviewed. So no drop box either. Drop box will be valid if you both had a full validity visa within 12 months or less from the stated expiry date. I know this because hubby and I had our visas renewed a month ago in Lagos and the whole process was explained in detail to us.

Check this website http://www.westhoustonbirthcenter.com/. They have a number you can call and discuss self-pay rates. All the best!

Hi, My advice as follows.
Before you go for your interview get another hospital with higher fees accompanied with an invitation letter or an hotel reservation bla bla. This is because at the point of interview the interviewer wouldn't appreciate you presenting documents from a cheap hospital because this is going to seem like you can't afford to pay your bills. Please don't pay for any hospital bill before bin issued a visa, most hospitals won't take money from you anyway because its a long process getting a refund if in the end you aren't issued one. After you done with the whole visa processing you can call MIHS Few weeks to your date of departure to book an appointment with them and they ready to receive you even at 37 weeks. All test and all will be conducted when you get to MIHS. Worry not about a birthing center, worry more about your interview, getting a date, and also proving to the interviewer you can afford tompay for your bills conveniently even when there is a case of an emergency. And pls donot lie about bin pregnant. Because all your history in the us goes into the system. Hope this helps.

If your spouse meets the condition you won't be interviewed either, at least that's the info on The visa website. see below:

Spouses and children under 18 years of age may qualify to apply with parents renewing their visas even if the spouse or children do not meet the above conditions. Please note, however, that children over 18 years must apply independently of their parents even if they are traveling together

thank you MrsBee. i can afford the hospital bill, my husband's statement of account is more than enough to take care of the bill even it is on the high side. i just thought i could pay and go for the interview. cause i heard some people pay theirs be4 their interview and they where granted. although i understand what worked for her might not work for me. i intend goin in and telling the interviewer im goin to have my baby there. surely not going to lie about that.
will hospitals give admission letter without atleast depositing some amount into their account?

thank you.

@ SUrety you should check the association of Texas midwives website. WesthoustonbirthCentre would charge you around 5grand.
Is this your first baby?
I am aware of a woman who would accept less than 2grand @28 months but I am not sure abt her experience. There are abt 6 birth centers in Hosuton and they charge between 3K5 - 6K (the very popular 1ce). You just need to be friendly with google.Home birth is also an option. All the very best.
