Don't mind the dumb azz Young African Invents Touch Screen Medical Tablet SHARE: Tweet Tweet Arthur Zang With The Cardiopad http://www.forbes.com/sites/mfonobongnsehe/2012/02/09/young-african-invents-touch-screen-medical-tablet/ Here’s an example of African innovation at its finest. Arthur Zang, a 24 year-old Cameroonian engineer, has invented the Cardiopad, a touch screen medical tablet that enables heart examinations such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) to be performed at remote, rural locations while the results of the test are transferred wirelessly to specialists who can interpret them. The device spares African patients living in remote areas the trouble of having to travel to urban centers to seek medical examinations. According to Zang, the Cardiopad is “the first fully touch screen medical tablet made in Cameroon and in Africa.” He believes it is an invention that could save numerous human lives, and says the reliability of the pad device is as high as 97.5%. Zang says he invented the device in order to facilitate the treatment of patients with heart disease across Cameroon and the rest of Africa. So far, several medical tests have been carried out with the Cardiopad which have been validated by the Cameroonian scientific community. shymexx: The Anu were the forerunners of the ancient Egyptians that dwelt around the Nile, hence, they were Nilotic. They were a religious group and farmers who lived in walled cities pre-3000 BC. They later migrated into lower and upper Egypt and brought a lot of social and religious change. The Anus are credited to have written the book of the dead, introduced the cult of Osiris and introduced the advanced farming methods into lower Egypt. The Anus are reputed to have spread their culture into Middle-East, Southern Europe and North Africa. 1 Like |

CAMEROONPRIDE: we have, dances, music, food, some rituals. the "look" etc . now let's get closer. what's the difference between a Xhosa and a Zulu ? But normadic fulani and city fulani speak the same language just in different dialects. Just as you have the manding people who speak different dilects in different countries. Unless, you want to tell me that Basaa and Shona are the same but just spoken in different dialects. Is basaa mutually intelligible to shona? I am confused, is bantu now being referred to as an ethnicity? There are different facial characteristics amongst people from ethnicities who speak the bantu languages. No one ethnicity be it from the bantu group or niger congo looks the same but if you want to take a bird's eye view you can easily tell by region not by language. People have been using the word bantu to describe others in a negative manner making it seem like it's a disease to come from that language group(onila). Yes, southern africans have a certain look so do east west and central when broken down there are certain looks within that southern, central, east or west. So, there is no such thing as looking bantu. We are different and we should embrace our differences as one. I mean, if anyone wants to be we are one and the same. Nothing wrong with that either. We are from the same continent are we not? I was watching a video yesterday of these somali singers msdarkskin posted and I thought the video was shot in somalian because of the people features but read comments saying it was shot in kenya. To me as an outsider they had the features I will consider somalian but many said they looked kenyan. Saw a picture of some rwandan women, they had somali features but I an sure a somali or rwandan can tell they are not somali. My families languages include the atlantic languages, if we were classifying looks to languages, as onlia is doing with bantu I look nothing like the limba or fulani. In fact, I don't even know what I look like because no one else can ever tell. I'm bloody all over the place. |

kandiikane:I can't tell but I wouldn't b surprised .however bassa and shona have been separated for a longer period of time have , lived or are living near different ethnic groupso bassa or shona may have been altered to the point that it is very difficult for them to understand each other. Also people tend to downplay the influence of foreign languages on our own languages |

Tony Spike: Err...Igbo language like many languages in the world uses the alphabetic writing system. So finding words that are similar but with different meanings shouldn't come as a surprise. e.g: Morena (Maori) - morning Morena (Sotho) - king Morena (Spanish) - dark skin ^^^ Does this now mean this three have had interactions in the past - No. I saw your other thread and I couldn't help but notice how hard you were trying to find similarities between Igbos and Southern African Bantus, especially Zulus... |
Re: Why Did The Bantu's Migrate From Eastern Nigeria To Central And Southern Africa? by TonySpike: 5:17am On Oct 03, 2013 |
Tumisang: I am not trying hard to find similarities between Igbo and Bantus because the Bantu migration path is well-documented in history. The Igbos are located in Eastern Nigeria which is one of the points/areas the Bantu group passed while journeying. What I am trying to say here is that there is a huge possibility that ancient Igbos interacted with the migrating ancient Bantus. Your examples seem out of place because the three groups (in your examples) did not at anytime share geographical space. In our case, the forerunners of the Bantu families did stay around Eastern Nigeria at some time in history. Thanks for correcting the Ndlovu. I just found out that the umbrella Bantu group is Nguni, with Zulu as a subgroup, interesting! I can see you're Sesotho though... |

CAMEROONPRIDE: Don't mind the dumb azz Wicked. Here's another very recent invention by a bantu. Bantu invents the world's first digital laser , no imeagwali frauds. Referred to as "technology which may change the status quo", researchers at the South African CSIR have created the first digital laser. Researchers at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Tuesday announced they had developed the world's first digital laser, which the researcher responsible for the breakthrough describes as a "disruptive technology" that could change traditional manufacturing, communications and electronic devices. In a traditional laser, the laser beam is shaped inside a box with two mirrors – the curvature of these mirrors determines the size and shape of the beam. If a researcher, company or manufacturer requires a different beam, they either have to replace one of the mirrors in the laser or manipulate the beam once it comes out of the laser using a spatial light modulator. Lasers cost thousands of rands, and altering them is a lengthy and costly exercise. The CSIR team, which is part of the National Laser Centre, has shown it is possible to alter the beam from inside the laser by replacing one of the mirrors with a computer interface. The research was published in scientific journal Nature Communications last month. The computer interface is "like a television which displays the image you're watching", said Professor Andrew Forbes, chief scientist and research group leader in the National Laser Centre's mathematical optics group, at the press briefing at the CSIR campus in Pretoria. "The basic idea is to digitally create the desired hologram," which acts as a spatial light modulator, he said. To build a laser, you require "a medium that can amplify light, something to excite the medium and a box made of two mirrors that bounces the light back and forward", said Forbes. "We replaced one of the mirrors with our little television set." With the digital laser, it does not cost anything to alter the laser beam shape or size. Intellectual property Sandile Ngcobo, a PhD candidate in the research unit, was the one who realised it was possible to digitally manipulate a laser beam from inside the laser. "I believe the digital laser will be a disruptive technology. This is technology which may change the status quo and which could create new markets and value networks in the next few years." Forbes said the intellectual property sits with the CSIR, although he mentioned that under South African law, part of it belongs to the inventor. His unit was spinning out a company in related technologies, but he said they were still deciding whether the digital laser should form part of its technology bouquet, or whether it should undergo further development and be spun out into another company. Science and Technology Minister Derek Hanekom also attended the announcement of the laser, and said this was proof of the talent in South Africa. "This is an advance in a technology that has a vast array of applications. The digital laser opens a whole new world of opportunity," he said, emphasising that "technological advancements have to improve the lives of our people". |

Tony Spike: Funny that the supposed migration was documented by people who weren't even in the continent then. Anyway, I believe scientists more because they have credible proof (well, at least to me) that humanity's roots lie in South and East Africa. |

kandiikane:I think that the bantu group is more a race than an ethnicity in the same way people talk of the Germanic race, the jewish race,......etc...All Germanic groups don't look the same and don't speak the same language, but there are sufficient linguistical and genetical ties between the different Germanic groups for all these groups to be clustered in the same race. This is also the case with the different bantus groups! What is certain is that bantus started as a single ethnicity. And from that core ethnicity sprung many more ethnicities as the bantus expansion unfolded. 1 Like |
