I was at the Corporate Affairs Commission Office at Yenagoa,Bayelsa State Yesterday,I wanted to register my business,from information i get from CAC website,I read that business registration costs N10,000(ten thousand naira only) for business that its shares capital is less that 1 million naira.But to my greatest suprise the man i met there told me that i will pay N45,000 for the registration.

Now mates,i really want to find out from you (especially those who was registered).How much does it cost to register business at CAC?

Because i am planning of reporting that man to ICPC or EFCC (it at all they will take any action)

Pls i need your comment on this.

This is my own little working knowledge of business registration: You have registration of business name and then limited liability company registration. Business name registration which can be done in any of the state offices is in the order of 10K and ltd liability Co which has to go through Abuja (directly or indirectly) is in the order of 45K. Find out which reg this fellow is doing for you.

from your post, you probably meant company registration because you talk about share capital and all that , the oner you checked on the CAC website is probably business name registration,,,,,two diff things, besides you need to consult an accredited legal practitioner to register your company, as per the EFCC, i doubt if you will succed if you do that, any way if you have further questions on this[b] post your questions on [/b] www.justicenigeria.com            for professional direction/ legal advise from Nigeria

@Poster. Your posts shows you know next to nothing about company incorporation nor how much it costs. This person you said charged you N45,000 back then is not out of place. You even pay more now that the CAC has "slightly increased" filing fees for some of their services; hence you do not need to make a mockery of yourself by reporting him to any authority.

There is more that meets the fees quoted on the CAC website. And the cost you pay for incorporating a private limited company depends on the worth of the share capital.

Lastly, there are 3 parties recognised by the CAC to carry on incorporation services to clients - Chartered Accountants, Chartered Secretaries and Lawyers. There is no fixed fee for using the services of these professionals. Hence, you cannot justify their fees by what you see on CAC website (which is not actually the true picture of what obtains at any CAC office).

The truth is there are many fees you have to pay to complete your registration with CAC.

Incorporation fees is N10k but thats not all that will finish the process.
There are still other filing fees, CTC of forms, stamp duties, professional fees, etc. Etc.
45K z a gud price, u can hardly get it for less trust me.

as at february 2013, CAC changed some of there fees. that of incorporation can only be done by an accredited agents like lawyers, chartered accountant etc and there fees varies depending on the agent you meet.am also accredited i charge less. u can visit me at CAC alausa office or call 07064960766

They will tell u to come back in 2-4 wks time to enable them process the name u have chosen to make sure that another person has not used it. When you go back n the name has been used by another person then u will buy another form and choose another name. If the name is available, then u proceed to registration which will cost 4500-5k only. But if u go through a 3rd party d persom will charge u higher. When I went to register mine, the security man promised to help me that it will be faster that way. He charged 10k but I went direct n it was cheaper(4700k) and fast too. Recently, The President ordered a deduction to make it cheaper.

I registered in Abia State. When u go to CAC, don't be discouraged to enter their office and pick the form urself because most people u meet will make it look as if it is a difficult task, so that u will pay them to do it for u. A lawyer charged me 20k but I went to CAC and it cost less than 6k including trans etc. You can use any name.

Registration can be done without stress!

Don't always believe what you read and see in Nigerian newspapers and online.

Business registration requires certain process that requires what you spend on paper, name search, notary(legal process), filing and all before you now pay 10k for Business name. So how would anyone accept 10k from you as the total cost of registration if they are not a fraud considering stress, time and transportation?.

Hey bro. Registering of a business name costs just N10,000. Total fee for the whole registration process is roughly N11,000.
N500 for Name Availability search form
N250 for form 1A which represents "Form of Application for registration of Business Name"
N10000 for the business name registration
This cost totals N10,750 which is approximately N11,000. Of your own free will, you might decide to compensate any of the staffs who happens to guide you when filling the form 1A but that's optional. When i did mine last week, the staff who guided me through told me to pay N11,000 for the biz name reg. His excuse for the extra N1000 was that it was for Oath fee for swearing in the court but me know say na im pocket e go enter. I just laughed in my mind and agreed to give him since he was the one who guided me in filling the form and from the saying "Na where man dey work, na dere im from dey chop". But i still let am no say i dey aware say na im pocket e go enter b4 im go think say im dey use my head.

That's very true...What's worth doing is worth doin well! Its true that u can try register a business name on ur own (Advisable to go through a channel so it won't take too long or doesn't just get stuck)
